  • "The accommodation was welcoming, light , bright and spacious as well as being peaceful."

    It was well equipped but as mentioned before a freezer would be handy but that was just a minor thing. The conservatory and patio area was a real bonus. The cottage was well situated for touring around Cumbria and the Lake District as well as being in walking distance of Wigton centre. We found the owners welcoming, friendly and helpful.

  • "We loved our stay at Hillside Hideaway."

    The property was really clean. The bed was very comfortable. WiFi worked really well. Tea and coffee provided along with dishwasher tablets and hand soap. The washer dryer was very useful. Bring your own detergent. Kitchen was well stocked with all the cooking equipment you might need.

  • "The property was excellent and very comfortable and spotless clean."

    in a beautiful location.unfortunately my wife was taken ill and we had to go home early. The owner’s David and his wife were very supportive and helpful and I cannot thank them enough.. We hope fully would like to return when we have the chance. I would highly ireccomend the Hiideaway . take

  • "The property was clean and well presented."

    The facilities provided were modern and easy to use. Overall a comfortable stay and well placed for touring the Lake District. It was rather a pity that the refrigerator did not have a small freezer compartment for storage of ice and freezable food. Also the light fitting over the landing did not work which could not be rectified as the owners were away during our stay. However the above matters did not have a negative impact on our stay.

  • "We had a very comfortable restful stay in this annex to the owners property."

    Well equipped kitchen with instruction manuals for all appliances and plentiful supply of dishwasher tablets etc. Lots of electric sockets and a couple of USB points, very useful. So peaceful, the sound of the birds in the morning was wonderful. Well positioned to tour the area and some good cycling. Owners available if needed but not at all intrusive. Thank you for the welcome pack very much appreciated.

  • "I have stayed at Hillside Hideaway numerous times over the summer due to working in the area."

    It is my first choice when available. It has everything you need to ensure you'll have a comfortable stay. It allows me to cook and clean for myself and has turned into a home away from home. It has also been spotlessly clean every time I have stayed. I am working in Cumbria until the new year and have already booked again. Thank you.

  • "Had a great time at the cottage."

    The place was furnished really well with all the right equipment. Lovely bed and bathroom. Only thing we had a problem with was the tv- not straight forward to use unless you had used the set up. All told, I would recommend the property if visiting the North Lakes.

  • "Hillside Hideaway was a perfect place for my husband, myself and our dog."

    The house is spacious, beautifully decorated and clean. On arrival we found tea, coffee, sugar, a pint of milk and some biscuits which was a lovely surprise. There was everything you would need for a self catering break. Washing up liquid and hand soap in the kitchen, as well as mini toiletries in the bathroom. We were also pleased to find dog bowls as we forgot to take ours. We would recommend Hillside Hideaway!

  • "Fantastic,cosy place in a great countryside location, easy to get to anywhere within the lakes."

    Very private with off road parking which was great. We took our dog who settled great and was fab to see the owners had taken this into consideration and left him a bowl of water for when we arrived (great when unpacking car saving us hassle of searching for bowls straight away). Fish and chips in the town where amazing. Will definitely stay again.

The property

Hillside Hideaway is a semi-detached house located in Wigton, in the beautiful county of Cumbria.

This stunning sandstone property sleeps two and allows parking for one car, making it the perfect retreat for couples and a furry friend looking to escape city life.

Be welcomed into a spacious kitchen/diner fully fitted with everything you need to whip up your favourite meals.

In the next room, you’ll find a lounge furnished with a plush sofa and armchair, ideal to cuddle up on when watching your favourite shows and movies.

On early mornings, watch the sun rise with a steaming cup of tea from the conservatory, and on warmer days make use of the small seating area on the private patio.

As the day winds down, head upstairs and de-stress in the spacious bathroom and its walk-in shower, then catch your rest in the inviting double bed.

Venture out to the local town of Wigton to find various coffee shops such as The Barista.

You’ll also find a high street with all the shops and cafes you need to make your stay a convenient one.

A scenic drive will take you to the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its rich heritage, fascinating wildlife and birdlife.

Pack some lunch and picnic on the smooth plains of sand overlooking stunning views of the Solway Firth, take in your surroundings while hiking through South Solway Mosses National Nature Reserve or take a stroll in Finglandrigg Wood which looks like a white wonderland if travelling in winter.

Within driving distance you’ll find the famous Lake District National Park and all the beautiful towns and villages it has to offer such as Keswick.

Get a taste of history at Keswick Museum, for more unique entertainment head to Puzzling Place and try to make sense of its optical illusions, and if you’re lucky enough, catch a show at Theatre by the Lake, one of the world’s most beautifully situated theatres on the shores of Derwentwater.

WIGTON

Carlisle 12 miles; Keswick 20 miles.

A traditional Cumbrian market town with a charter granted in 1262, which still holds a market each Friday in the covered market hall, along with an open air car boot sale which is held at Silloth. Wigton is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, and also boasts a theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. Lord Melvyn Bragg was a native of Wigton, and used the town (called Thurston in some of his writings) and the surrounding area as the setting for his novels including ‘A Time to Dance’. Located 18 miles from Penrith it is a good base for the attractions of the North Lakes, the cathedral city of Carlisle, 12 miles away, Keswick, just north of Derwentwater and close to Lake Bassenthwaite, and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. Hadrian’s Wall is within 25 miles, while the Scottish Borders, and Gretna Green, are within easy reach.
