  • "Lovely lodge in a peaceful area."

Great wildlife to look out at, and places to visit all within driving distance. Despite the hiccups with no working dishwasher and a water leak, the owner made arrangements to promptly get this repaired. Beds were all comfortable and plenty of home comforts such as throws to keep you warm and cosy. Everything you need home from home with reliable WiFi, most important for kids now a days lol

Thank you for your valuable feedback and are pleased you enjoyed the lovely wildlife and beautiful scenery in the surrounding area. We feel very frustrated that getting the dishwasher fixed seems not to be an easy task but hopefully did not impact on your stay too much. We have aimed for a cosy retreat and glad you found the lodge comfortable and homely. Property Owner

  • "There's a lot to like about Newsham Lodge."

It is located in a very quiet area on a site with about 20 other lodges twenty minutes north west of Penrith. The facilities are good. A 55 inch smart TV, excellent Wi-Fi, plenty of board games for families to play and a nice decking area to sit on when the weather is good. The settees are comfortable, as is the bed. However, I was very disappointed to receive a text message several hours AFTER I'd arrived from the housekeeper to say the dishwasher was broken and they were waiting for a part to fix it. I would not have stayed at the property if I'd known this in advance as I'm awaiting back surgery and standing up for any length of time in a fixed position - washing dishes, for example, in a sink - is not good for my posture. I note that a previous occupant that had stayed in the lodge in JUNE also had a similar experience and was told it would be fixed. Clearly that hasn't happened and when you're paying a significant amount of money to stay somewhere such things are not acceptable. And there are other problems with the lodge. It is oppressively dark inside due, in part to the wood, but also to the fact it is not well lit. A problem that could easily be fixed with the right lighting. The kitchen is tired looking, though it has everything you need. The bathroom needs a major upgrade. The bath is small and the shower of very poor quality. I do not wish to be overly critical here, but having stayed in a number of the Lake District Lodge Holidays lodges this is not comparable with the very best ones that are more modern and are bright, with fixtures and fittings of the highest quality. I do not mind paying for such things. That was not the case here and it is definitely not a 4 or 5* property whatever some other reviewers have said. Those reviews are misleading. One last thing, you do need to plan ahead staying here. You can't, unlike at other locations, just step out your door and go for a walk. Most of the best countryside walks are a thirty to forty five minute drive away. In conclusion, I was very disappointed. Having paid over £800 to stay for a week the lodge did not live up to my expectations.

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are pleased you liked a lot about Newsham Lodge however we take great pride in ensuring each guest has a memorable stay and feel dishearten that you left feeling disappointed. To give you some context we had the dishwasher repaired prior to your stay, unfortunately this did not fix the fault and therefore had to order two additional parts which maintance were waiting for. Our maintenance provider did try to contact you on the day you arrived, unfortunately we have seen evidence that this got stuck in their outbox. We apologise for you having to wash your dishes during your stay. We purchased the cabin 3 years ago and did an extensive refurbishment where everything was brand new (Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedrooms, Windows, Bi Fold doors, log burner, Decking and landscaping areas) all to a very high standard therefore, we are perplexed with your review of the kitchen and bathroom looking tired after 2.5 years of being let, these views are not shared by other guests that have returned time and again to enjoy the lodge or made comments on Lake Lovers web page or in the feedback book we leave in the lodge. In addition, the Bath has been no issues for me being 6ft 2in when we use the lodge in the winter months. On the lighting we have aimed to have an intimate cosy ambiance, with dimmer lighting, fairy lights and undercounter lighting. We take onboard your feedback that this will not be to everyone’s liking and perhaps if other people feel this is an issue we will look in to this. There are some fabulous walks 15 mins away Bowscale Tarn and The Becon, 20 Mins away In Airforce Falls detailed in our book in the lodge. You can also walk directly from the cabin site through Greystoke Forest taking in the Red Squirrels and wildlife. We feel it’s unfair to say other reviews are misleading as this is your own personal opinion, and in conclusion we are very sorry our cabin did not live up to your expectations. Property Owner

  • "Very lovely, extremely well appointed and clean odge and it had everything you could possibly need."

Lovely quiet location from which to explore the Lake District. Only dropped a point here and there because the dishwasher was broken. We were advised a couple of days before the start of our stay that it was our of order and would be fixed, however it was not sorted during our stay. We specifically chose a lodge with dishwasher, washer and tumble dryer. Our stay was part of a longer trip from Hampshire to The Highlands and back, over three weeks.

Thank you for your valuable feedback and are pleased you enjoyed your stay at Newsham Lodge. We are very sorry the dishwasher broke just before your stay, we did have it repaired prior to your stay, unfortunately this did not fix the fault and therefore had to order two additional parts which did not arrive in time for your stay. We understand this is annoying as you are on a break and don’t wish to be washing up. We apologise again, hopefully you made use of the washer and dryer and had a good trip onward to the Highlands. • "1. Really liked the spacious Cabin and facilities."

    2. Clothes hangers and drawers dusty. 3. Bathroom was dusty - including the toilet brush. 4. Toothbrush holder was very dirty. 5. Towels had to be washed given the terrible odour. 6. Talking of odour - the bathroom had an unpleasant odour which we found impossible to remove.

Thank you for your valuable feedback on your stay at the lodge. We are sorry that you found fault with certain aspects of your stay at the lodge and have investigated your feedback with our cleaning provider. The outcome of your feedback is that our providers have put further cleaning checklists in place to cover items you have identified. On the odour in the bathroom we can only put this down to the ‘scent’ of the reed diffuser that is on the window cill, this may not be to everyone’s liking so have now removed this item. With regards to the bath towels theses are washed with fabric conditioner, again we can only put the smell down to the scent of the conditioner that has been used, otherwise our cleaners are at a loss. This is our first year having the lodge as a holiday home and appreciate your feedback so we can learn from this and put procedures into to place. We are pleased you really liked the spacious cabin and the facilities provided. Property Owner

  • "The lodge was amazing and lived up to the description."

Modern and clean and comfortable in beautiful surroundings. We were entertained on our first full day by two red squirrels which was brilliant. The Lake District is just one of our favourite locations and the weather never detracts from that. Pubs recommended by the owners were good. We visited The Boot & Shoe twice and The Clickham Inn. We also visited The Sun Inn and all three had brilliant staff and very good menus and food.

Thank you for the great feedback. We also love the surroundings and fantastic wildlife, especially the red squirrels! Really pleased you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "I'd love a response to this."

.. but we had my elderly mother combined with a 4month old son.... the timed electric radiator heaters.... can this be adjusted as it's the only part of the holiday we disliked. I'd give this holiday let a solid 5 out of 5 and return year after year but being restricted on heating the lodge (although in the handbook we understand the heating is a recorded comfortable 20°c **ours where set at 19°c** we spent each morning freezing cold as the times between remote timings became VERY cold. Especially having elderly and young In the household party. We would love to come back for a family Christmas or school holidays again... but the timed heating given the price of holiday and advertised *within price * seemed a bit not right. Other than that.... the location... lodge... FACILITIES **WOW the facilities where second to none. Provided ABSOLUTELY everything we could of possibly needed (hence the leaving of dish washer tablets, air freshener, self bought potato masher) as we felt we where more than happy to contribute for future families as the owners really have provided a beautiful lodge fully equipped for families to enjoy their holidays. Gorgeous lodge. :)

Thank you for your feedback from your stay and apologise for the delay in responding as we have been on holiday ourselves and only just returned. Firstly, with regarding the electric heater we are sorry that this has caused an issue with your stay at the lodge. This is the first instance that this situation has arisen since we started renting out at the start April this year and will take your valuable feedback on board and amend the Handbook to state the following. ‘If in any instance you require the heating temperature / timings to be adjusted, please contact our management company - XX on 01768 ****** -24hr Telephone number’. They can directly contact us and we can immediately adjust the radiators from our app whether that be the temperature or the timings to your comfort. Secondly, we are happy that you enjoyed all the other elements of the lodge and have tried to make it a ‘home from home feel’ for all out guests. Thank you for the potato masher, ours must be missing from the original set! I hope by making this adjustment we hope you will consider returning to the lodge in the future.
