  • "Lovely cottage close to lots of wonderful walks, lakes, historical homes and gardens."

Fabulous Sunday lunch at pub 100yards away and excellent bus service. The view from the cottage was excellent even though there were big greasy hand prints on the inside windows definitely not cleaned for a while. Also disappointed that there was no welcome basket something that is left in all the other cottages we’ve visited- some milk for a cuppa on arrival would have been appreciated. That said, we had a fabulous time and a comfortable stay.

Dear Karen, Thanks for leaving a review. We are very glad to hear that you had a fabulous time and a comfortable stay. We are sorry that there were hand prints on the windows, we pride ourselves on the standards of cleaning in the cottage. Also, all guests are supposed to receive a welcome pack, so something has clearly gone wrong there. Thanks for bringing these matters to our attention, we will be raising them with Lakelovers to ensure there is no issue for future guests. Jules Property Owner

  • "This is the third year in a row that we have stayed at School Cottage."

It is always clean, comfortable and very well maintained. It has everything you need and more. It is perfect for visiting the Lake District. The views from the main bedroom are absolutely gorgeous.

  • "Absolutely lovely cottage, clean and comfortable -has every you need."

Beds were particularly comfortable. Ideal location to visit so many different places. View from main bedroom is so lovely. Fantastic to have the use of a dish washer too. Only problem we had was wasps which were getting in the roof space below 2nd bedroom - 7 of them got in one night but Sykes resolved with pest control - so all was good. Definitely home form home and would recommend to anyone.

  • "My wife and I were delighted with the Cottage."

Comfortable, clean with modern facilities. Comfortable furniture and modern kitchen and equipment. The beds were comfortable. We greatly appreciated being able to stay in a lovely cottage, in a beautiful area of the Laker district. It was well presented as we arrived, obviously cleaner had been very thorough. Living in this cottage helped to make our stay in the Lake District truly memorable.

  • "A lovely cottage in an ideal location for exploring the surrounding areas."

We used the local bus service to get around and parked up our car outside the cottage for the week. The cottage has a small and very well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge area. Warm and relaxing in evenings with everything we needed.

The property

School Cottage is a charming and comfortable two-bedroom cottage built from Lakeland stone.

It is set in a peaceful elevated position in Troutbeck Bridge, with lovely westerly views towards Coniston Old Man and the Langdale Pikes.

Formed from the old Victorian Sunday School, it is brimming with character.

An oversized front door awaits you up a few steps from the front garden, leading to a generous entrance hall with plenty of space to hang your coats and boots.

The lounge features distinctive floor-to-ceiling, west-facing windows, which help to make this room so bright and cheerful and offer breathtaking views of the mountains.

The modern fitted kitchen has everything you need to prepare a bite to eat and enjoy it inside or outside in the pretty patio garden while you plan your next day’s adventures.

And when the sun drops below the mountains you can light a fire and relax in front of the wood burning stove in the original stone fireplace.

Upstairs, the two bedrooms both feature beamed ceilings and attractive rooflines.

The front double room has a deeply set feature window with even more spectacular mountain views, as well as an en-suite WC and basin.

The rear bedroom is a comfortable twin with a velux window and a cosy cottage feel. The generous sized bathroom includes a relaxing bath as well as a large walk-in corner shower cubicle.School Cottage is ideally situated for a relaxing break, being just a short stroll to a well-stocked shop and a pub, and perfectly placed between Windermere and Ambleside for easy access to these two vibrant towns.

Walkers can quickly connect from the doorstep to any of the stunning trails in the area.

Follow in Alfred Wainwright’s tracks by taking the easy but glorious route over Orrest Head to Windermere, keener walkers can head up through Troutbeck over Wansfell Pike and down into Ambleside.

There is private parking for two cars at the front of the cottage, but if you want to explore further without having to drive there is a nearby bus stop with regular services to both Windermere and Ambleside, with routes to Grasmere, the Langdale Valley, Coniston and even Ullswater and Keswick.
