The property

Barnoldswick 1.8 miles.

Wood End Farm Cottage is a thoughtfully renovated semi-detached former farm cottage resting within rural Barnoldswick, Lancashire.

Perfect for small families, friends or couples, this pet-friendly abode boasts a toasty woodburning stove and outstanding long‑distance views across open countryside towards, taking on three entire villages in the valley and facing hillside and Boulsworth behind that.

The setting is truly memorable..

The panoramic view takes one down and across a wide valley bottom and up onto a vast hillside, encompassing several villages in their entirety, and then features the majestic Boulesworth Hill, rising up behind and far beyond this hillside, and which, depending on the sunlight, often appears surreal and dream like.

From slightly higher ground nearby, walkers are rewarded with glimpses of Pen-y-ghent, while on clear days the outline of Yorkshire's Three Peaks can be seen on the horizon, despite being more than 20 miles away.

Rich in original character, hardwood beams, exposed stonework and other features, this welcoming retreat provides an inviting base for couples and walkers to explore the Yorkshire Dales, the Forest of Bowland, Bronte Country and the Ribble Valley.

The cottage is finished beneath a traditional Yorkstone roof, its distinctive multi-tonal surface blending soft greys with warm orange and yellow hues that reflect its agricultural heritage.

Step inside to the spacious lounge and dining room where a wood burning stove is set within a stone fireplace, creating a warm focal point for evenings after days spent exploring the surrounding countryside.

The kitchen has been fully redesigned and fitted with an electric oven, electric hob, extractor hood and microwave, a sink and a half with drainer and dishwasher, offering everything needed for preparing meals during your stay.

Upstairs holds two bedrooms, comprising a sizeable master bedroom with built in wardrobes and sapele windows from where you can enjoy the views, alongside a single room suitable for an additional quest.

A utility/boot room sits open to the kitchen, providing a fridge freezer and washing machine.

The bathroom is fitted with a bath, shower over, basin and WC.

Outside, two yard areas offer space to enjoy the garden and its surroundings.

The small yard is finished in Yorkstone paving and can be gated for dog security.

Beyond this lies the larger open yard which provides parking and then easy access onto public footpaths crossing open farmland and then either up onto the moors or down towards the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.

One popular and nearby footpath leads to a narrow stone built bridge measuring just 18 inches wide as it crosses a small brook--- a picturesque local landmark that, until 1974, marked the old historic boundary between Yorkshire and Lancashire.

So the cottage itself was in the West Riding of Yorkshire for centuries before 1974, but today finds itself in Lancashire.

The War of The Roses is history and long past, but you may find that historic loyalties still shape the character of the area.

Thankfully today, a keen sense of humour tends to prevail..

Walkers will find themselves spoilt for choice.

There are countless options.

and there's also plenty of variety in the type of terrain to suit all conditions, fitness levels and distances covered.

For example, short and easy walks can be taken along the canal tow path which is always flat walking.

The canal has many lovely stone arched bridges which can also provide shelter in a sudden downpour..

A half day walk could take you up to the top of Pendle Hill and back again, with glorious scenery all the way.

A full days walk could see you attempting a section of The Pennine Way which is only 3 miles away; you can see the grouse / heather moorland it crosses from the cottage.

All these routes, and so many more, can be walked directly from Wood End without even needing to get in the car!

Local amenities are available in Barnoldswick and Barrowford while Skipton and Clitheroe offer further shops and places to eat.

Skipton lies around 7 miles away and last year won the titlle of "Best Place to Live in the UK" from Rightmove and this year "Best Place to Live in the North" from The Sunday Times.

It has a castle open to the public and a quick train link from Skipton can put you onto The Settle to Carlisle Railway with a possible stop at the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct.

.

Other popular attractions within reach include Malham Cove, The Yorkshire Dales National Park, Haworth and Top Withins (Wuthering Heights), Bolton Abbey, Turf Moor (Burnley FC), Settle and the Ingleton Waterfall Trail.

The Leeds-Liverpool canal runs very close to the cottage which is part of the famous "top section".

Whilst it is an attraction in its own right, it also opens up opportunities for off road cycling, and, with a little forward planning, fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding.

You could even charter a boat for a day or two and tackle some of the locks and even the "Mile Tunnel" at Foulridge which is just 2 miles away.

East Lancashire is also known for its excellent food scene, including 6 Michelin starred pubs / restaurants which are within or around 30 minutes away..

The nearest pub to the cottage is about 2 miles away by car but can be reached on foot in a shorter distance..

The last few miles of your car journey to the cottage can involve narrow country lanes flanked by dry stone walls.

Please therefore drive slowly and cautiously especially if you have just left the high speeds of the motorway.

It all enhances the old world charm of course and means the cottage enjoys a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere.

Yet it remains just 15 minutes from a motorway,, offering an appealing balance of rural isolation and straight forward access, ideal for couples and walkers seeking a romantic escape.

Choose Wood End Farm Cottage for a memorable stay in this beautiful corner of East Lancashire.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
