    Exceptionally well equipped, to an high standard and immaculately clean. Nicky was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. The property has a lovely garden to relax and enjoy the sunshine. I would definitely recommend this cottage if you are looking for a countryside escape.

The property

Pen Y Groes, a delightful, detached property, is easily found a short distance from the very pretty village of Berriew, Powys.

This tastefully-presented cottage offers well-appointed interiors, and is superbly close to nearby amenities, making it the perfect getaway for couples, families and friends looking to escape to Mid Wales.

After your arrival, take a moment to soak in the beautiful surroundings and appreciate the peacefulness of the Welsh countryside.

Step into the cottage and be instantly welcomed by a charming characterful living room with ample seating on the Italian leather corner sofa with a woodburning stove housed in a traditional inglenook fireplace, from there find yourself in a traditional farmhouse style kitchen / diner, housing all the necessary amenities for a week away so you can cook up a storm before savouring your creations alfresco in the garden.

Off the cosy lounge lies the first bedroom, on the ground-floor featuring a double bed, serviced by a shower room, ideal for guests with limited mobility on the first floor you can also find a family bathroom with a double ended bath, shower, basin and WC.

Whisk away upstairs and discover the remaining bedrooms, including a spacious king-size, a twin / king-size bed, another double bedroom and reading or study space with workspace and sofa, all wonderfully presented.

The well-maintained garden is a great spot to sit back with a glass of wine and reflect on the day, whilst there’s even a firepit and grill if you fancy a barbecue or toasting marshmallows on an open fire late into the night.

The picturesque village of Berriew is one of the jewels in the Mid-Wales crown, just 5 miles from the English border, with black-and-white cottages, a majestic church, two country pubs, a restaurant, an award-winning butcher’s and a deli/cafe and the River Rhiw flowing through and the Montgomeryshire Canal nearby. This delightful village has won "Wales Best Kept Village Award" several times and is situated at the heart of the beautiful Montgomeryshire countryside, surrounded by rolling farmland and wooded hills. Ideally positioned southwest of Welshpool, west of Montgomery and northeast of Newtown, this is a lovely region of Mid-Wales and is also just over the Shropshire border. The market town of Welshpool offers an array of interesting shops, a museum and there is a path to the famous Powys castle NT and renowned gardens. Visitors can experience scenic rides on the Welshpool and Llanfair light railway. The county town of Montgomery has a fascinating history with shops and Michelin Star French restaurant.
