  • "Perfect for our group of 10."

We sought somewhere dog friendly with a hot tub, a big kitchen table, space for everyone to communally lounge, plenty of parking, a good amount of oven space and a mix of single/double beds. Few places ticked as many boxes as here. We were delighted to find this place which and had a fabulous weekend. The owner was prompt and welcoming too. The building has been wonderfully modernised but it’s very old. The beams give it character but it’s worth noting from the pictures how low the entrance to the bedroom that sleeps 4 is - only about 1.3m so everyone is going to have to duck. There’s another beam leading to it at 1.6m so be sure to leave a light on nearby whenever it starts to get dark. As shown on the map, the property is very slightly north of Cregrina so, if approaching from the north, you’ve gone too far if you pass the sign showing that you’ve entered Cregrina (satnav took us into Cregrina). If you’re approaching from the south, drive through and out the other side of Cregrina (the hamlet is tiny).

  • "It was nice to stay at a lovely place that was priced at a reasonable cost."

The cottage has a very traditional feel, and the garden is a lovely place to enjoy nature. The hot tub, pool table and table football were great for entertainment. The hosts were lovely and very accommodating. The main suggestions I'd make is providing bigger towels for everyone, and personally I kept hitting my head on the low ceilings and beams several times. I know there are signs saying mind your head, but if there's any way you can remove the low beams, I think future guests would probably really appreciate it. But other than that, a really great stay, so thank you

  • "Excellent 3 night break at Penarth Farmhouse to celebrate the wife's 60th birthday with the family."

It's a very old farmhouse and has been modernised where needed but still retains many of the original features. Huge kitchen with all you need, cosy living room with an excellent log burner, all the bedrooms are good and the beds are so comfy. Decent hot tub a lovely bonus and enjoyed by all. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this place. Thanks to the host Marie who met us on arrival and showed us around. One of the best rentals we have stayed in.

Awake with a coffee that you can savour outside in the enclosed garden before you set out to explore your local surroundings.(Bryn) Penardd, as it was known in the Middle Ages, has a long and proud history.

The house is referred to in poems by the renowned Welsh poet Lewis Glyn Cothi from Carmarthenshire, who was born around 1420 in the remote village of Rhydcymerau.

He composed his poems between 1447 and 1489.

One of his last poems is addressed to Henry Tudor (the Father of Henry VIII) after he was crowned king Henry VII.

In another poem addressed to Bedo Chwith we learn that Lewis Glyn Cothi received a warm welcome at Penarth and was given three silver coins with an inscription of a plough on them.

The house is therefore at least 800 years old!

Jump in the car and head west into nearby Builth Wells, where you can load up on homely essentials at one of the many convenience stores in town, before you treat the whole group to a hearty pub lunch at The White Horse or The Barley Mow Public House.

The local Pub in Hundred House village is now open which is 1.5 mile from the accommodation.

The property is a prime position for access to the Royal Welsh Showground with its many events hosted throughout the year.

Penarth Castle Mound, dating back to the medieval period, is a short walk away and is well worth a visit, whilst the property also has open access to common land and open hillside, ideal for an afternoon stroll or a picnic.

When you’re ready, set off to discover the nearby landmarks of the Llywelyn Monument, the National Trust nature reserve of Abergwesyn Common, and the scenic point of Water Break-Its-Neck before you head south into the breath-taking setting of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

This property is perfect for exploring Mid Wales and is 30 minutes drive from the Elan Valley dams and half an hour drive from Hay on Wye, which is world famous for its second-hand and antiquarian bookshops.

All of this and more is yours to enjoy when you book Penarth.
