  • "Was an amazing place to stay."

Really rural just so relaxing. Very comfortable. Loads of room for 10 people with 2 comfortable lounge's so can watch films in one room and others can relax and chat in the other. Pool and darts were a very good addition, contests were made cheating a possibility! Nia and James were brilliant with help when needed. Very clean inside and out. Will book again.

  • "We stayed at Groes Heol between 24-28th Nov 2023."

There were three adult couples and two teenage children. The property is quite remote so lovely and quiet with only the sound of water the occasional sheep and lots of noisy pheasants :-). Its an ideal location for walking and other countryside pursuits. The property consists of an original cottage c15 century with 4 bedrooms and a large kitchen diner/lounge with a large table big enough for 10 and two large settees and chairs round a log burner. The 5th bedroom and very large snug is located in a converted barn accessible via a linked Games Room with pool table and dart board. Guests staying in the 5th bedroom can seem a little remote from the rest of the group but the large snug is capable of accommodating everyone and is equipped with a large Sky glass TV so great for watching films together or playing card games. The house is great for a stay for a large single family or several couples. We had to share a single bathroom in the house end although there is a shower room and wc on the ground floor near the front door but a bit cold and remote. Our hosts were great in keeping in touch and making sure we were OK and could find everything. Nia reminded us of the extra logs available for the log burners which we used during a really cold snap. The property is extremely well appointed with two large TVs and access to sky netflix and other streaming services. The two boys were also pleased with a playstation games console which they used during the evenings and we all had a pool tournament in the games room during our stay. Nia and James have also provided lots of information of local activities places to eat and where to buy provisions. There were a few small niggles which we have communicated to Nia & James but nothing to effect what was a relaxing and comfortable long weekend. Highly recommended

This was our second stay and will definitely be recommending it friends and families.

What a wonderful property in the most stunning surroundings. The house was perfect for 2 families with more than enough space to find a quiet spot if needed. Well maintained, clean, cosy and full of everything you could ever need! Nia our host checked in a couple of times which was lovely, knowing she was down the road if needed. They also left us a super little welcome hamper which was a lovely touch - thank you! We loved hanging out as a family in the kitchen and snug area, whilst watching kids play in the games room through the window off the kitchen. Kids loved the pool and the darts and simply playing in the grounds of the house. We took a walk past the lake and up the dirt track at the back, up the zig zag hill and then through the forest to find the lake at the top at the start of the holiday. We all loved it! Beautiful views. We also took a trip to zipworld forest and Barmouth beach. It’s a lovely location, and would highly recommend for a peaceful break. The property is about 3 miles from civilisation…..We had taken food with us and stocked up from local coops when we were out and about. Lots of special memories made. Thank you Nia and Jamie!

As a group of 9 there was plenty of space to interact as a group while also having space for solitude. Everything you need is supplied, wonderful welcome basket upon arrival, Great communication, nice bedding! The grounds are absolutely beautifully. If you like to run or walk you can set straight off right from the back garden. I enjoyed running right to the top of the hills to see the most magnificent views at sunrise. Our purpose of the stay was to trek Snowdon. While we did have to set off a little early to beat the crowds the drive was just over an hour from Groes Hell and wasn’t bad at all. It all worked out perfectly. Thank you Nia

Apart from that I really do think it was fantastic brilliant walks off the site with fantastic views and sheep that visited daily by climbing the wall but would soon climb back as soon as they saw someone. • "Amazing holiday home."

This was our first time at Groes Heol and we were booking again for next year before the end of our first full day. The location was perfect for us - it felt incredibly private, but not isolated. The light pollution outside at night is minimal, there were so many stars that we city dwellers don’t normally see. The facilities were just superb, not just the really obvious ones like the huge Sky Glass TV, the open fires and the games room, but all the little touches like a welcome basket of bread, butter, milk and wine, plenty of cleaning supplies including washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets, a double oven and grill, a microwave, and two fridges. The owners have really thought about lighting too, everywhere seemed really cozy. We’ve stayed in a few rented cottages over the years, and in a lot of places the equipment feels a lot like “here’s some stuff the owners don’t want at home any more”. This couldn’t be further from it. Everything was good quality, usable and well thought out. The only thing which wasn’t perfect for us was the bed on the 2nd floor was a little too soft and caused one couple in the party to keep rolling together in the night. Next year, they’ll choose another bed. Someone else might find it perfectly comfortable though. Finally, the owner was absolutely lovely. She messaged us to find out when we’d be arriving and had the fires lit ready for us, and was happy for us to get in touch with any questions. She made us feel really welcome, without being pushy or intrusive. Perfect.

There are so many positives about this place. The house is set in the most beautiful surroundings, it is nestled in a valley that is surrounded by lovely wooded mountains and lakes and streams. The wildlife in the area is great, we saw Red Kites, Buzzards, House Martins were nesting at the house, Pheasants etc. The accommodation is huge and so full of character. Everything was provided that we could think of needing and more besides. We walked in and found a lovely little hamper of Prosecco, Welsh cakes, toffee waffles, bread, butter and milk in the fridge. Nia who owns the house, was very helpful via text, she even informed me of the council doing some roadworks, thanks Nia. If you have kids or youre a big kid like me you will be well entertained with a great pool table, dart board, PlayStation, Netflix ,Sky tv or simply enjoying the huge surrounding gardens. This place is great for any body. We visited many towns and villages through North Wales and it was stunning, the drive from Dolgellau to Mallwyd is breathtaking. I have stayed in many lodges, but this place is the best by far. I wouldn't normally revisit a holiday destination, but i think i will be going back to Groes Heol. Thank you for a great holiday!

The pictures don't do it justice; it's bigger than I was expecting. We were there in a very hot week in July and there were quite a lot of flies as we had the doors open. We couldn't get a phone signal in the house but was ok outside. The internet in the house was very good - Wifi signal throughout and more than good enough to stream video. Tesco had no problem delivering our prebooked grocery orders. The house is about a mile off the main road on a steep single track road but not an issue. You can't see another house and we walked up the valley from the house without seeing anyone though we did see some badgers. The owners were lovely and the goody bag much appreciated. You really do not need to get back in the car again to access stunning walks, breathtaking scenery then watching Swallows & House-martins dive bombing and swooping right outside your front door with Red Kites majestically soaring by on route to their next meal. It’s paradise.. Groes Heol even has its own resident otter which we watched for hours. Magical and priceless, and we have not even started on how wonderfully the cottage is equipped and furnished!! It’s tasteful and in keeping with the surroundings and style of the house, high end wood furniture, wood burners to die for and big comfy sofas again top quality and sumptuous cushions. Plentiful hot water and stunning kitchen equipped with everything you could ever need that was spotless and a real home from home. Modern chic bathrooms, crisp immaculate white bedding and towels, deep luxurious carpet in the bedrooms. This place is simply faultless. No mobile signal but the BT WiFi provided is strong and completely reliable wherever you are within the property and garden just to the front. Nia was an angel, discreetly checking in via text ensuring everything was perfect, upon arrival the fires were lit, and a yummy basket of Welsh treats left for us to devour with a gorgeous hot cuppa. Would I stay again.. you don’t need to even ask. If you are wanting peace, stunning countryside and high end feel in sublime luxury surroundings without any issues at all you found it.

The kids loved the pool table. Plenty of outside space for the dogs to enjoy. We walked up the forest track from the house and there is a large lake at the top. We visited Barmouth a couple of times, long sandy beach with dog friendly areas. Water falls at Coed y Brenin are worth visiting with a 7.1km walk. Cader Idris mountain is close by with spectacular views. We were unable to check in until 5.30 pm as the property needed to be deep cleaned however there was little evidence of this. The property was full of dust and was definitely not as clean as we had expected following a “deep clean”. The scenery and setting was lovely however it is really isolated with the closest beach and town 20 miles away and very little to do with children locally. The owner was very welcoming leaving very nice welcome gifts for us and the games room in the property kept both children and adults entertained. The social areas were plenty big enough to accommodate our party and although the weather we had wasn’t the best we enjoyed our stay thank you.

We enjoyed walks up the forest tracks on the hill behind the house. A good big cooker and efficient dishwasher. Some table spoons would be useful. The bedrooms were comfy, if a little short on storage for clothes. The bathrooms are well fitted out though lacking in chairs or tables to put sponge bags etc, and the water pressure is a bit low in some of them for the showers to work really well. There is plenty of space around the house for kids to play outside; good for hide and seek. We enjoyed the barbecue. Inside there are two separate living rooms, one is part of the kitchen dining area, the other is at the other end of the house, beyond the games room, so adults can be noisy there after kids' bedtime. Very good wifi that seemed to work everywhere, and 2 huge TVs with a playstation and a sky box. We did not travel very far because the virus kept many attractions closed. The beach at Borth was great for smallish kids, as was the sculpture park below the dam at lake Vyronwy, and the chocolate "factory" at Corris. If only the narrow gauge railways had been open!
