"We've stayed in some excellent properties before but Pennal Cottage is easily the best we've stayed in."
From my first email to Sue before booking, communication was excellent. I had a few questions about how secure the garden was for our dog, and Sue replied quickly with all the information I needed. Her pre-arrival email was clear and comprehensive, making everything from finding the cottage to collecting the keys completely straightforward.
On arrival, the cottage was absolutely spotless. It is beautifully furnished and equipped to a very high standard, and it quickly became obvious that Sue has put a huge amount of thought into making guests feel at home. We've stayed in many holiday cottages over the years, and there's often something missing or a welcome folder that's out of date. Pennal Cottage was the complete opposite. The information folder was exceptionally well put together, including useful local information and some fascinating history of this wonderful 300-year-old cottage.
The kitchen was one of the best-equipped we've come across, with quality cookware, crockery, cutlery and glasses in abundance. There really wasn't a single occasion where we thought, "I wish they'd provided..." because everything had already been thought of.
Outside, the large, mature garden was beautifully maintained and full of wildlife, providing a lovely place to relax. The hot tub was spotless and clearly well cared for, and the quality outdoor furniture made it a pleasure to spend time outside.
The location was ideal too. Although it feels peaceful and rural beside the canal, with lovely walks straight from the door, shops, takeaways and a petrol station were only a few minutes' drive away.
It's genuinely difficult to find anything that could have been improved. Pennal Cottage is a credit to Sue, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. We would happily return.

"The cottage was just perfect for us."
There were six adults celebrating a family occasion. The owner really did provide everything - plenty of plates, cutlery, glasses etc. There were towels provided for the bathroom and the hot tub. We really did have the most perfect stay. The pub directly opposite was so lovely as were the owners who even went out to stock up with my daughter’s favourite drink.
There are some lovely walks along the canal. We were blessed with the weather but the tables bit inside and out comfortably sat all six of us. Would highly recommend . I had to ring the owner briefly when we arrived and she couldn’t have been more helpful either !! Thanks for having us x

"We had a lovely weekend away for my birthday, very clean , great location."
Just couple of things that one bedroom was very close to boiler which can be heard over night and another bathroom/ toilet would have been amazing as it’s a big cottage .But overall we had a lovely time thank you

"Pennal Cottage is a lovely, historic canal side property in a very convenient location for visiting the area."
The village itself has great walks along the canal and a lovely pub opposite the property (The Navigation Inn) run by Mark and Brent, who are wonderful hosts. The food is excellent too, although it should be noted that it's opening hours are between Thursday and Sunday only. However, the cottage has all the equipment needed to self cater too, which we did. The hot tub is a welcome bonus!

"We had the perfect stay at Pennal cottage, 6 of us celebrating our friends 50th wedding anniversary."
The cottage had everything we needed. The hot tub was great, we took a gazebo with us as we were there when it rained a lot so we were still able to enjoy it. The pub across the road was a little disappointing. Closes between 2pm and 6pm. On the Sunday, when it was dry, we took a walk along the canal to a lovely pub 2 miles along, was very busy and the food looked amazing. Worth a visit.

"Thank you for a lovely fortnight in Pennal Cottage."
We found the property to be exceptional - so well equipped in every room, very comfortable seating and bed and overall a real home from home. We did not want to leave! The hot tub (with separate towels to use) was a real bonus every evening after a day of sight-seeing in the superb locality. Everywhere so close and easily accessible. Ruby enjoyed her walks along the towpath every morning, afternoon and evening, making new friends along the way. Unfortunately the wet weather at the start of the holiday and then the lower temperatures meant we couldn't sit outside of an evening, which we would have enjoyed doing. Maybe next time! The log fire was very cosy on the colder evenings. The huge kitchen table was used many evenings to play board games.
A big thank you to Sue for all your kindness in checking in with us by email to ensure everything was OK, without intruding in any way. All your instructions, and those in the house information folder, were excellent and easy to follow.

"We had a wonderful break in this lovely and historic cottage."
We had beautiful weather so we were able to make great use of the well designed and very peaceful garden. The hot tub was a real hit. Lovely walks along the nearby canal and very handy for the local pub! Short drive to supermarkets in Oswestry. The bedrooms were very cosy and the kitchen well equipped. Sue was extremely helpful with queries and nothing was too much trouble. What a wonderful and generous host! We would love to stay again.
Thank you for your lovely feedback! We are really glad you enjoyed your break at Pennal Cottage!

"Pennal cottage was perfect with lovely hosts."
A lovely cottage tastefully decorated situated in a small village by the Montgomery canal. Light, airy and perfect for a relaxing break. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need whether it be cooking in the kitchen, relaxing in the bath or simply a restful nights sleep. Lovely fluffy towels and the toiletries were great. Outside the secluded hot tub was fabulous for winding down after a day exploring the Shropshire countryside. A walk along the canal path is a must, it was lovely seeing the canal barges pull up outside the cottage. There’s also a quaint pub opposite that did a cracking Sunday lunch. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning to stay again
Wow thank you for such a lovely review! We are really happy that you enjoyed your break at Pennal Cottage and that you enjoyed the local area too, thank you again and we hope to see you in the future!
