"There were numerous maintenance and cleanliness issues throughout the property."
In several rooms, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls, and the overall décor was very shabby and in clear need of attention. The general state of repair gave the impression that the property had not been properly maintained for some time.
A number of basic facilities were either broken or unsafe. The light in the upstairs bathroom was not working, the sink in the annex bathroom was not properly attached to the wall, and a bedroom lamp was broken. In addition, there was no exterior lighting at all, which made moving between the main house and the annex particularly hazardous, especially as the paving slabs underfoot were uneven. We were forced to rely on torches to get around safely.
Cleanliness was also a major concern. The hob and oven were dirty, and the oven trays were so filthy that we had to purchase our own in order to cook. The extractor fan above the hob was covered in grease, and there were damaged sections of the worktop.
The hot tub, which was one of the key features of the property, was in an unacceptable condition. There was grit in the bottom, and the water became murky almost immediately upon use. It was also not checked or maintained each morning as stated in the property details, which was very disappointing.
Overall, the condition of the property did not reflect what was advertised, and it did not provide value for money. These issues had a significant negative impact on our stay.

"We had a great stay in the house, it was comfortable and overall well equipped although some areas could do with some light renovations."
The hot tub was a really nice touch, but there isn't much more outside space. The views and local area were really nice and it was helpful to have the separate annexe.

"The house is overall as listed, very big so super convenient for big gathering and the outside area & hot tubs are definitely a plus."
The owners are really helpful and have been very quick to reply and react to any queries.
However the house really need a big refresh. Everything is very old, the shower pressure is very very low in most showers, and the hot tub bubbles seem to only work on one side.

"Hillside Lodge was excellent for our large family Christmas."
The welcome hamper was was much appreciated It had Christmas Trees and decoration up.. Kitchen very well equipped, Could do with some TLC.
No hair dryer The only problem we had was the lack of outdoor lighting at the back of the property to get tom the hot tub, annex, and putting rubbish out. We would highly recommend for large groups.

"The property is in poor condition and in need of a full refurbishment."
The house requires painting throughout, and there are visible dirt marks, scuffs, and patches of missing wallpaper on the walls. Several maintenance issues were also present:
Wooden kitchen floorboards are missing
Cupboard doors are loose or falling off
The microwave has a broken button and is difficult to use
There is mould in the bathrooms, and the extractor fans do not work
Showers give off a burning smell when in use, which is concerning
The annexe building was unusable due to an oil boiler leak, which made the space unsafe and unavailable.
Overall, the condition of the property did not meet expectations, and many of the issues affected comfort and usability during the stay. Maintenance is urgently needed.

"Stayed here with a group of friends for my partners 50th."
The out of the way area was ideal for us, the house was great, plenty of room to relax, the big downstairs room was great.
The rooms were great, I stayed in the annex, was nice and cosy.
The hot tub was a welcome addition, especially after dragging 5 city guys around 20kms of a elan valley trail.
Over all a great place to stay.

"It was so lovely to stay at Hillside as it’s set in such beautiful surroundings."
The house was as it said and catered well for a family of 14 the kitchen was well equipped with two good sized fridges and also a good freezer. There was also a good walk in pantry. The beds were all clean and the duvets good togs. The house definitely needs some TLC my husband had to clue one of the draws back together I’m also 6ft and who ever does the cleaning must be shorter as all the cobwebs were just above 5ft level……and there were definitely plenty of them! Hooks in the shower rooms would have been great because there was no where to hang towels. The taps in the room opposite the big lounge were the wrong way round so hot water coming out of the one that said cold, we had two small children in that room so it could have been quite nasty had we not realised. However even after all that said we loved our stay and it certainly wouldn’t put us off booking again.

"Perfect place for big family gathering."
It's hard to find places that are not only dog friendly but will take 4 dogs! The owners were very accommodating.
Previous reviews mention there are a few bits of outstanding maintenance - that's true, the property does have things like drawers that need fixing etc, but it didn't bother us at all. We had a brilliant stay there, and our group was aged 6 to 70. There are also lots of different living spaces which is handy when you need to get away from everyone for a little bit!
Hot tub was a great feature and enjoyed throughout. Nice walks nearby.
I would suggest adding a What Three Words to the property directions as most of us found it quite difficult to locate.

"We arrived together with a mix of ages from 8 to seventies to celebrate the New Year."
The facility to celebrate was great as the dinning area and lounge area was very accommodating for us all to be together. The showers were not very good in some of the rooms, even when we weren't trying to use them at same time. Maybe some hooks or shelves in the bathroom would be a good addition as they were lacking a few basics for towels and toiletries certainly in the room near dinning room. some of the decoration needs attention and including new curtain in our room as one was hanging down and needed new hooks. Kitchen was great to cook and enough of fridge and freezer room. Hot tub was really good some written info on how to use it would be good though, unless I missed that in the book. The views are amazing with lots of wildlife to see. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and above comments made wouldn't deter us from recommending this home to others to stay.

"We enjoyed our stay at hillside, in fact this property has bags of room, the beds were comfortable and in general the house was clean."
We were disappointed with some of the outdoor areas and feel there is room for improvement. Some of the paving is loose or have big gaps, not ideal for children or the elderly. The patio furniture is in a shocking state, some of the chairs are broken causing one of our guests to fall to the ground when she sat on it. To look at it the chairs look OK but the really are in poor condition. All the gutters were overflowing when it rained and some of the down pipes are not even coupled together. Sad really we felt it just needs a bit of TLC on the maintenance side and new patio furniture to make the say a more enjoyable experience.

"The house was warm and comfortable and all the beds were clean."
There were plenty of soft towels and plenty of shower rooms. On suit bathrooms could do with hooks or rail for towels and a mirror over the sink for shaving. Plenty of cupboards in the kitchen and well equipped. Lots of space and TV’s for separating in the house. Outside needed some light by the hot tub. There was not much outdoor space in the garden for children to play, and no local public footpaths for walks from the property except along the road.

"Property was lovely and accommodated our large group really well."
Each room was spacious and we enjoyed the multiple large spaces both downstairs and in the dining area. Bedrooms were a good size and meant we could accommodate family groups in specific rooms, the annex or top floor which was also helpful.
The hot tub had been prepared on arrival too, and whilst the weather wasn’t great, the hot tub was as nice to relax in…. Would have been better with some external lighting, and maybe a covered area for when it was raining?
The annex was also a really good space for a family with small kids to retire to, when the rest anted to stop up later…
Top floor rooms were a little cold compared to rest of house (top floor electric heaters on timers versus central heating elsewhere). Also, the range cooker was ok and double oven really helpful, but the electric hob took a while to heat up and so cooking a stir fry or large breakfasts / dinners for 16-18 was a challenge….
Lots of storage space for food, a good sized freezer complemented the two fridges and lots of plates and cutlery, exactly what was needed for a big family gathering, and hokey the dishwasher was also out to good use…..
Outside the front access to walk the fields was overgrown, which limited our dog walking to the narrow road behind the house, which was slightly frustrating as we had two active / young dogs with us….. being able to access the field in front of the house for a country walk would have been good (despite the wet weather)….
Overall a very good stay, with a few minor improvements
