  • "Beautiful place and we will definitely come again!"

We were so impressed how nicely renovated the cottage was and fitted out with virtually everything one needed, as well as being spotlessly clean. It was beautifully decorated and the beds were super comfy; we felt right at home and had plenty of space for my husband and I and our teenage son. We were very happy to have had a washing machine and dishwasher and the wide array of kitchen utensils that included a french press, electric kettle, toaster and microwave. The property is situated in a nice quiet area - street parking was easy to find. Grocery stores were very close by and the location is ideal for taking the blaenau ffestiniog railway train and very near hiking trails and other quaint towns. Just a few things - would be great to have had a clothes drying rack and maybe a few extra towels.

  • "Great stay at this lovely cottage!"

Had everything we needed. The entire downstairs area was lovely. Air hockey table is something a bit different and definitely fun! Kitchen was well equipped. Bathrooms were lovely, ours was the downstairs one and the shower was fab! Bedrooms were also good with plenty of storage. Enclosed areas out the front and back were great for the dog and also the children. Such a lovely part of the country to stay, the views and scenery were incredible! Also have to mention how amazing the owners were, we had car trouble and were about to be stranded on our last day as we couldn't physically leave but we were able to book a couple extra nights (which was so easy to do) while we figured out the car. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Thank you for your review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Turtwig Cottage. We are happy that you got your car sorted and had a safe trip home. Property Owner

  • "This is an excellent property and we thoroughly enjoyed our two-week stay."

It is spacious, very well equipped and well managed. We found the local people, dogs and especially the cat that greeted us on our return each day and watched us through the window most welcoming. The Wi-Fi is very fast and reliable. Although Blaenau Ffestiniog is a fairly run-down town there are lots of things to do locally including some very good walking. It is an excellent base for exploring the wider area, We enjoyed a guided tour of the slate mine and a trip on the Blaenau Ffestiniog Railway. The are many places of historical interest including a number of castles. We particularly enjoyed two visits to Caernarfon and a day at Portmeirion We highly recommend TurTwig cottage

  • "The house had everything we needed, and more !"

! The living room was comfortable and cosy which is just what you need after climbing a mountain !! The bed was also very comfortable and the bedrooms had plenty of storage. Both bathrooms had great showers. The courtyard is small at the rear but there are benches and tables in the front garden which is a little sun trap. I thought the little extras provided were a sweet touch, a pack of Welsh cakes (my fave) tea, coffee and sugar provided and also a little cleaning pack containing dishwasher tabs, clean cloths , throws for the sofas so dogs could be on there etc. This was very thoughtful. All in all our stay was perfect and turtwig cottage is a great base camp to explore North Wales, we visited Conway Bay, Rhyl, Bangor, Anglesey, Llandudno , Betws-y-coed, and of course Mount Snowdon. Will definitely be visiting again soon :)

Thank you so much for your review. We are so glad you had a great time at TurTwig Cottage and that you got to explore North Wales. We would happily welcome you back anytime. Property Owner

  • "Everything that it said on the tin."

Comfy and clean it made an ideal base to explore the area. A comfortable bed and excellent shower were well received after a day's walking. Blaenau is far from being an exciting town but really is so well placed to travel outwards from to see the huge variety that North Wales has on offer. It's an ideal cottage and location and we would have no hesitation in returning.

However there was no starter pack for the wood burning stove which was a disappointment for our first night. But...loved the cottage and the stunning scenery so would visit again.

Glad you enjoyed your stay at TurTwig Cottage. Apologies that the starter pack wasn't available on the first night. We would welcome you back anytime, thanks for staying at TurTwig Cottage. Property Owner

  • "Delighted with the cottage."

Spotlessly clean and everything that you could possibly want was there. Very quiet town location within five minutes of a good chip shop, supermarket and station. The mainline train ride to Llandudno was really lovely with beautiful views, especially across the estuary to Conway castle. At present, you are unable to get the narrow gauge train from Blaenau and have to go from Porthmadog, but it is more than worth it and the optional cream tea box is excellent. 10/10

I would have liked a couple more bath towels but that’s just a personal thing. I was surprised to see there was no visitors book but maybe it’s not necessary these days with feed back done on line. We had a really nice holiday in a beautiful area.

Gorgeous cottage, little bit disappointed about not having use of second shower room but this could not be helped and no fault of owner, we would stay in the cottage again, very friendly neighbour, village was a bit more run down than we had realised, everywhere shut on a weekend so maybe would not stay in Blaenau again

Thank you for your review. We are so glad you had a lovely time. Apologies again for the lack of use of the second shower. Property Owner

  • "TurTwig cottage was perfectly located for numerous activities, with helpful guidebooks left in the cottage."

For those rainy days, there were games provided, as well as the very popular air hockey table! The cottage was comfortably furnished, and equipment in the kitchen was good - we never felt it was needing anything. Simple instructions were left for everything required, which meant we didn't need to bother the owners, but when we did, they were quick to respond. We had a great stay in TurTwig cottage and would definitely recommend it as a great base for walking, mountain biking, zip world and visiting some lovely beaches.

Some nice authentic touches such as tea, coffee canisters with Welsh labels and touches such as a packet of Welsh cakes on arrival. Really lovely shower (only tried upstairs one). Very quiet area and we never had an issue with parking outside. Brilliant provisions for dogs, blankets, treats, food and water bowls. All in all we had a great week's stay

The property

Nestled in a National Park in the old town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, is this stylish mid terrace, TurTwig Cottage.

Enjoying a toasty woodburning stove and just paces away from amenities to assist with your self-catered stay, this two-bedroom home is ideal for a family of four.

Leave your vehicle on the roadside before stepping inside to discover the industrial style living/dining room, where you can curl up with a cup of tea besides the woodburning stove.

Tuck-into heart-warming meals at the dining table, which can be prepared in the kitchen adjacent, courtesy of the gas oven and hob, before enjoying a friendly competitive game of air hockey.

When the sun is shining, carry the conversation out on to rear courtyard and why not savour a glass of wine to celebrate your hideaway?

As the evening cools, retire inside and enjoy a hot shower on either the ground floor or first floor, where a heated rail will keep your towel fluffy and warm.

When sleep calls, choose between two beautifully presented doubles, both with hanging rails and bedside lamps so you can enjoy some bedtime reading.

Awaken with a cup of coffee on the front patio to absorb the setting, with views of a spectacular mountain and enjoy a home-cooked breakfast at the dining table.

TurTwig Cottage is an excellent base for the adventurers at heart, with the thrilling Zip World Llechwedd, the cascading Cwmorthin Waterfall and Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve for a ramble.

History buffs may wish to visit the harbour town of Porthmadog; here you can unveil the past at Maritime Museum, hop aboard a steam train for a trip through the mountains or if that's not for you, sample the quaint cafes and boutique stores.

For a special escape, spend the afternoon in the village of Betws-y-Coed, home to a plethora of walks, where you can explore Swallow Falls or delve into deep forests for wonderful wildlife.
