  • "We stayed at Pinecones Cottage, Morfa Bychan for the week Sat 3rd June to Sat 10th June '23."

Our overall impression of the accommodation on arival was favourable until we opened the fridge door upon which we were greeted with the most miasmic stale, stagnant odour ever. My partner and I were disgusted and immediately set about cleaning the fridge but we couldn't get rid of the odour. We cleaned out the fridge a few times and the odour decreased but not entirely. Sykes Cottages and the property manager were informed. We suspected that either the fridge drain hole was blocked with something nasty or a previous guest(s) had spilled milk in the fridge and this wasn't cleaned up properly. We were a party of two, we booked this cottage because amongst other things, it had more than one bedroom so we could each sleep in separate rooms. Our first night was a case of 'bed hopping' for myself as I couldn't get comfortable on any of the two single beds due to the old and worn out mattresses. I finally found a serviceable bed in the bottom bunk, OK but still uncomfortable. My partner slept in the double bed in which she had to fortify the mattress with spare duvets in order to smooth out the lumps and bumps! Desparately needs new mattreses on all the beds! Again, Sykes Cottages and the property manager informed. We decided to vacate the property on the Friday as we couldnt have put up with another night of unbroken sleep. During our stay at Pinecones it became increasingly noticeable that overall cleanliness of the cottage was lacking; e.g. detritus and dust under both sofa's and dirt between sofa seats (the sofa's are old and uncomfortable also!) and dust and detritus under the TV stand. Filthy unclean windows, especially the back door. The so called 'garden' is not really a garden but is a delapidated and untidy back yard in need of some attention. The good weather we enjoyed was a great bonus and probably accounted for the fact that we stayed until the Friday, the area is beautiful and the cottage is a good base for exploring the Lleyn Peninsula and the West coast of Wales... What a pity the cottage wasn't up to expectations!

Thank you for your honest feedback which allows us to address the issues raised. The beds were all new silent night mattresses for the 2018 season and we have never had similar feedback but we will of course investigate whether they need replacing again based on your feedback. We have also raised your concerns with our house-keeper to ensure the house is cleaned to a high quality as that is what we would also expect as guests. Property Owner

  • "Location was superb."

The house itself was well equipped and it had everything we needed. However, more attention to detail was needed in the cleaning of the property. The back garden was in a bit of a state which meant we were reluctant to sit outside in the sunshine . Lots of dusty areas which had been missed and the windows were filthy. The sofas had not been cleaned in some time.

Thank you for your honest feedback which allows us to address the issues raised and build on the positives. We have raised your concerns with our house-keeper to ensure the house is cleaned to a high quality as that is what we would also expect as guests. Property Owner
