  • "Honest review."

Good points- + good location. Close to motorway but quiet. Snowdonia 50 minutes away. Beach 10 minutes away. Shops also nearby. + bathroom was lovely. Modern. Free standing bath. + log burner. Plenty of firework included. Heated the hut really well on cold nights. + enclosed garden was lovely for our pup to roam around! + kath was lovely and very helpful..she looked after our pup for the day so we could visit Chester zoo (definitely worth a visit!) + public footpaths on your doorstep for little walks around the area Bad points :( - not as described on the listing..states there is only 2 shepherd huts, when actually there are 5! Didn't matter too much to us as its January so not busy. However if we booked for a quiet getaway in the middle of summer, I feel I would have been very disappointed seeing so many huts there. Listing states it includes towels...we only had one bath mat left for us. Meaning we then had to go and buy towels for our stay. Kitchen is described as 'well equipped', we feel this wasn't the case. One mug and one tiny tea cup, no pint glasses, one roasting tray for oven and the frying pan wasn't bigger than my hand... we had to buy a bigger frying pan! Listing also stated dvds and games...no games were found and only 2 dvds, one of which was actually missing the disk. Having read previous reviews, it seems guests had in fact received the 'generous welcome pack' consisting of fresh eggs, bottles of bubbly, biscuits ect..we however were left just a packet of biscuits. We feel the hosts made the effort when they first started but unfortunately didn't continue. - pillows weren't to our preference- far too soft! Had to purchase another pillow as no support. Bed was also on the small side, maybe a small double? - a little curtain going across the window on the door would be good for privacy...felt uneasy sleeping knowing we could be looked at

  • "The Shepherd's hut was exactly as described, but the views exceeded our expectations."

The hut occupies its own large enclosed grassed area which is just perfect for any visitor, but even more so for those with a dog or two. The setting is very quiet and no traffic noise can be heard, just birdsong. The hut is well equipped given the space restrictions and very warm and cosy with hot water available on-demand. The bathroom is just fantastic.

The owner Kath was very friendly and kind and made our stay so special. We were made to feel very welcome and loved eating the deliciously fresh duck and chicken eggs from her own birds on her small holding. The location of this hut is great,- only a short drive to the beautiful hills of Snowdonia and Clywd and close to the lovely historic towns of Conwy, Bangor and Denbigh (Conwy has some wonderful ice cream parlours and lovely little boutiques too!) The hut itself has a warm and cosy feeling with a log burner and deep victorian rolled edge bath to soak in after a day of hiking. Our dog Rosie loved playing in the enclosed land and we adored watching the many birds, horses, sheep and other wildlife that the area boasted. We will definitely look at staying at this little gem off the beaten track again! Thank you so much Kath and family for a happy and memorable Christmas 2018!

The added touches of things i may have forgotten to take were there, (tea, coffee, milk), then there was the others, which I won't spoil for anyone going to stay. There was more than enough fuel for the log burner, water was lovely and hot too. I took my German SHEPHERD Pearl, to a SHEPHERD hut that is situated only 12 miles from my home, and we LOVED it. Wanted to stay longer. Thank you Kath for your attention to detail. You are marvellous and we will see you again definitely! x

  • "Our host for the week Kath was very friendly, helpful and offered if we needed, to look after our dog Maxi for us."

Maxi had a wonderful time, plenty of room to run around and lie down whenever he pleased. The Clydes is very comfortable I am 6ft 3 and not once did I feel cramped. The hut is very comfortable, my partner who feels the cold actually had to open the windows one evening as she was too hot! We didn't use the wood burner but we did use the small electric radiator one evening when the temperature dropped. The kitchenette has more than enough space to cook, although my partner pointed out it would have been easier to prepare things if there was a board across the sink. We loved the wine and welsh cakes that were left for us and the notelet was the icing on the cake. The bathroom my partner said is 'to die for' sheer luxury in other words! Cleaning ones teeth in a morning and watching the birds at the bird feeder was an added pleasure, we even saw a woodpecker one day. We felt very much at home, more a house guest than a paying guest. It was a shame that the pub within walking distance was closed, instead we drove into St Asaph and ate a few of our meals at The Talardy Hotel (Which we can both thoroughly recommend too). Kath and The Clydes made our holiday effortless we were very sorry to leave.
