  • "The listing described an enclosed garden as did the photographs."

There was infact a shared walkway and our neighbours had access to the garden because of the placement to the bins. The property backs onto farm buildings, noise effects our reactive dog, I deliberately did not chose aproperty on a farm... . One of our dogs is reactive and perfectly behaved indoors however having an enclosed private garden was important to us because he is very frightened of people and other dogs. Considering the cost of the cottage the welcome pack..a pint of milk and a packet of biscuits was somewhat underwhelming. The web site describes amazing views from the bedrooms...all the windows are skylight windows so this is not the case and nowhere was it mentioned where to find the poles to close these widows...we found the poles on day 3......hanging on the side of the wardrobe in a bedroom we were not using. In order to access the master bedroom you had to go through another bedroom..again not mentioned. I think that the cottage information definitely needs updating. Great hygiene and kitchen and lots of snacks for the dogs

Thank you for your feedback. I'm very sorry to hear that you've had so many issues during your stay at The Chapel. It was for this reason that i contacted you by telephone to discuss your concerns after receiving your feedback in our guest book. Just to clarify The Chapel is not situated on a working farm. The property is a converted Chapel located in a small rural village. There are cows in a field on the opposite side of the road to us and a local villager keeps a single cow and it's calf in a small enclosure to the rear of the property. Many of our guests enjoy this rural feel to the place, I'm sorry this wasn't the case for you. As I explained on the telephone having livestock nearby in a rural location is quite common. I'm very sorry this was an issue for your reactive dog. It may have been useful for you to contact me prior to your arrival to let me know the strict criteria you needed for a holiday home in order to meet your dogs needs. This way I could have explained our location and tried my best to accommodate you and answer any questions prior to your stay. The Chapel is obviously a listed building so the renovation had its restrictions which is why there are skylights in the upstairs room. The website listing does state there are skylights in the property. The views can be seen from the original church windows downstairs. I do hope you managed to enjoy them during your stay. Once again I'm sorry you did not find the poles to access the velux windows until later in your stay. My number was available in the property for you to contact me at anytime, I'd have been happy to help if you'd have let me know you were having issues. There is a shared path to the front door of the property however both The Chapel and it's neighboring property have separate, secure gardens. The wheelie bins can also be reached from a side gate if needs be so, no need for shared access if this was a problem. A Welcome packs as such aren't something we provide however, complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, milk & biscuits are always left for our guests, along with coffee pods for the coffee machine. Dog biscuits and treats are also left for pets. Once again I'm sorry to read your feedback, it's just unfortunate you didn't let me know any of your problems whilst you were at the property. I'm not sure I could have helped with the issues regarding your dog as there are other animals and people nearby in the village. However I'm sure some of the other things you mention could have been resolved had I known. Once again, thank you for your comments Property Owner

  • "The Chapel is an airy and spacious cottage with great hill views."

We appreciated the pet-friendly attitude and lay out. It was very well equipped with lots of crockery and cutlery. We liked the village and LOVED how close it was to Saltburn and gorgeous coastal walks. Booking and check-in with Sykes was all very straightforward.

  • "Beautiful property in a beautiful village."

Great location for ease of getting around to all the main tourist destinations. Only small criticism is lack of TV channels and we found the mattresses a bit uncomfortable (way too soft to be supportive in any way) but we would definitely return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

  • "What a lovely stay, beautiful cottage which is located in a very quiet village."

A great base to discover the East coast or go walking. You could take bikes and also explore and there is room for storage. Would highly recommend this cottage for those who want quality time to recharge with the family away from the crazy world we live in.

Only suggestion is a quieter tumble drier, but that's nit picking!

  • "Absolutely perfect!"

The house was stunning. Beautifully converted and with everything you could need. Spotlessly clean. Set in a quiet village with its own garden. It was so easy to get around. Can't wait to stay again.

  • "Beautiful cottage which has been restored to a very high standard."

Neil and Kerry were very welcoming and when we had an issue with the TV, Neil swapped it for another in 30 minutes. Immaculately clean, very comfortable and high attention to detail so all our needs were met. Upleatham is very tranquil with great access for walking and easy access to the coast and the Moors. We'd definitely visit again and book the chapel or the smaller cottage next door if it's only the 2 of us. A wonderful, relaxing week.....thank you.

  • "The Chappell was lovely."

Thoughtfully restored and well equipped. Whereas we had a dustpan and brush, a broom would of been handy. The only other thing we thought would be helpful was. List of what is recycled. Every council is different. We mentioned this to the owner.

  • "The Chapel has been restored tastefully and is now a light pleasant space to relax."

The property was well-equipped with cleaning products, toilet rolls, towels and even dog biscuits. The views are stunning, particularly out the back. There are great circular walks from the Chapel doorstep (although we should have brought a paper map rather than relying on the internet connection in the area). Upleatham is very relaxing and quiet yet Asda and other shops are only a short drive away.

  • "Well done restoration of old listed building."

Extremely clean and comfortable accommodation. Location excellent for visiting local attractions and coastline. Owners contactable and we’re very hands on in helping with a problem not of their own making. Upleatham village very quaint and quiet with great local walks from the front door. WiFi didn’t work but it’s a rural location so no real surprise or issue with that. Would recommend.

The location is great too, being a quiet village close to the seaside and a great base for exploring the local area. We might well return as we liked it so much.

  • "The cottage itself was brilliant, but we were told we could book 2 extra nights and I replied via email to go ahead with that."

When I finally managed to get through to Sykes, I was told they hadn't received my email??? and those nights we now booked - obviously found someone daft enough to pay nearly £500 for 2 nights, whereas we would have been paying £114. For this reason, probably won't use Sykes again.

  • "I think that you mislead us with the description of the property."

There was no mention of one of the bedrooms accessed through one of the other bedrooms. This is very deceptive in my opinion and we had to tiptoe past our sleeping children when we needed the bathroom. You should clearly state the layout. The property was beautifully done but not described properly in your advert. If we knew this we would not have booked. I believe you have done this on purpose to attract more customers thinking they are getting a 3 bed property when if fact it could never be sold as a 3 bedder. Very sneaky.

Dear Mr Pearce, I’m very sorry you were disappointed with the layout of the bedrooms in the property. I can assure you there was nothing “sneaky” with regards to the description written by the Sykes team. The Chapel does have three bedrooms. The master bedroom is private. You do then pass through the twin room to get to the third bedroom. This has not been an issue for any of our other guests as many of them travel with family and friends who don’t see this as a problem. I’m very sorry you were dissatisfied with this. The Chapel is a listed building which meant we were limited to what we could do with regards to the layout and we wanted to maximise the use of space. All three bedrooms are very spacious and can be made private due to the doors separating them. I’m surprised to hear you were so dissatisfied as when we met each other you seemed very happy with the property and your stay. I do hope you still enjoyed your time with us. Kind regards Neil Preston Property Owner Property Owner
