  • "We’ve kept coming back over the last few years and we’ll be back again, we absolutely love everything about it."

The owners are lovely, the Old Carthouse is just oozing with character with lots of space and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed the walks and everything about our stay. Compared to other properties we’ve stayed in the Old Carhouse has many kitchen utensils, pans, cutlery plus more which was great for us as we had quite a few family visitors to cook for. Also, whilst cooking, we also enjoyed the sheep’s company who often just gazed through the kitchen window. We’re looking forward to our return

The property was well presented, with all facilities in good working order and very clean. Thank you for providing an extra stairgate, when requested, so promptly. Thank you also for letting our grandchildren see the new born lambs and especially 'Mr Peacock' and his friends! For future guests it is worth noting that we managed to get supermarket deliveries directly to our cottage, by two different supermarkets. We would highly recommend a stay at The Old Carthouse!

Beds were comfy and kitchen seemed well kitted out with good levels of the essentials. The location is stunning. It was a real experience being on a working farm. Great place to explore the area. If I am to be picky the upstairs bathroom had an odd smell that was not present in any other part of the house. But that is my only bad point. Great place would recommend.

The owners were very accommodating and ensured the cottage was Christmas ready with a real tree, the surrounding areas have plenty of great walks, a lovely local pub and if you want a holiday where you can get away from real world stress then this is the place to go. We will definitely be going back again! The access roads are a bit of a challenge in the dark and fog if your not familiar with the area so as a word of advice I would suggest doing a google street map of the roads leading to the cottage.

A great place to stay with many good walks locally and a good base to drive to near villages, we visited Pickering for the steam train experience, Helmsley for the market and Abbey, Hutton le hole craft centre just to name a few - two good moor walks and 3 beautiful wooded waterfall walks - this is a place we shall re visit and would be happy to stay again at the Old Cart House - the owners most amiable and friendly.

There was a good range of sleeping arrangements for various size parties. The heating was very effective and useful to us as it was quite cold. The kitchen was quite old but well equipped with plenty of pots & pans, crockery and cutlery. The large dining table was a bonus - able to do a jigsaw and eat from the table at the same time. Could do with another shower/bathroom for a large parties. We enjoyed our week and would return again - hopefully when the weather was a bit warmer.

We didn’t want to leave. Now we are back home we miss everything about it, especially all our garden friends , the geese, the ducks, the peacocks. Only thing missing was a local shop for anything you may have forgotten. We arranged a delivery from Morrison’s but we still forgot few things. The local pub, a short walk away was nice, we had couple meals in there. The old cart house is definately one we would like to return to some time.

Almost everything we needed was provided. The cottage was cozy and well presented. Would be fantastic in the summer, with a nice short walk to the local pub only 5 minutes away. There’s lots of different animals around which was great to see... they thought the sheep coming to see them at the window was great! The cottage is dog friendly with stone floors at the entrance, which is great for drying them off after a walk. Lots of parking space and a great outdoor seating area (although it wasn’t warm enough for us to use it!)

  • "We spent a great holiday over Christmas at the Old Cart House with extended family."

It was lovely to arrive to a decorated Christmas tree and a bottle of wine waiting! The cottage was a great for the 7-10 of us and 2 dogs - everything is comfortable but also dog/kid friendly (e.g. easy clean carpets). The communal living / dining / kitchen area was great to allow everyone to be together while cooking etc. The open fire was amazing! The location is wonderful, very remote and beautiful, on a road that doesn't go very much further up the valley, so very little traffic. Nevertheless Morrisons found us with our big Christmas food order and its not too far to driver further afield. Luckily it wasn't icy though as that could have been tricky. We had a great day out in Whitby. The pub in the village, the Feversham Arms, is highly recommended, for the food and the really friendly atmosphere, and we really enjoyed their Christmas eve quiz! Only minor complaints would be that the fridge was a bit small (though as it was winter we could chill drinks etc outside), there was no cafetiere or corkscrew (luckily we came prepared with our own) and a little more cutlery would be useful.

Great walking off the doorstep. Friendly, welcoming owners and fascinating sheep and domestic fowl all around us. The huge turkey a particular favourite. Wi-Fi excellent, no mobile phone signal. We appreciated the welcoming wine, milk and biscuits. We couldn't find a cafetiere but there is a pod coffee machine. Otherwise this house has everything you need. It is spacious, has beautiful views and has pretty much everything you could ask for including baby gates for the stairs which I thought was a nice touch. Its central location in the moors, offers a good place to use as a base for day trips out with plenty to do within an hour’s drive of the accommodation. I would highly recommend this ‘cottage’. The only little thing I would suggest is either a knife sharpener and/or a serrated knife.

The animals on the farm around the cottage were beautiful to wake up to on a morning. We would all love to return to the cottage again! There were two stone steps up to the kitchen/sitting room. One twin bedroom was situated above the kitchen/sitting area with its own separate steep staircase. The layout of the bedrooms I don't believe was accurately described by yourselves. The situation of the cottage was stunning but we were unable to access any public footpaths within walking distance of the cottage even though there seems to be one clearly marked on the ordnance survey map. This maybe this is something you may like to take up with the owners as it would be a bonus to be able to walk a dog without having to take it in a car. I appreciate that this is a working farm with livestock but your description regarding walking from the cottage as 'close by' was rather vague. This is an area of Yorkshire unknown to us and we shall certainly return but not to this cottage.
