We were taking my parents away for their wedding anniversary, which means we needed both accessibility and dog friendly, on a weekend in August - not easy to find. The Maple was an absolute godsend! A lovely property. It's modern with a great layout, clean with lovely little touches to welcome humans and pups alike, in a quiet location, so it feels private. This worked so well for us all. There is Pub so close my dad was even able to walk, and the food and service there was outstanding. I would highly recommend the Maple and will be back. It's a great starting point to access the coastal towns.

There was everything we needed for the week. The double room was adequate and well planned. The only down side for us was that my brother is somewhat disabled and found it difficult with the lack of space in the room with the two single beds, although fine for children. Alison and Martin did not intrude on our space but were always willing to help in anyway they could. We had a wonderful much needed break.!

Alison and Martin were very friendly and helpful with regards to cycle routes and buses. They were also very accommodating when it came to storing our E Bikes and charging them. The accommodation was lovely and the outside seating area was ideal with the lovely weather we were lucky enough to have during our stay. We would definitely return to Craven Hill Park if we were in the area and maybe try out the lodge next door as its a non pet friendly accommodation which is ideal for us. Thank you Alison and Martin.

  • "We experienced an issue with hygiene within the property, which the owner apologised for and left us with a bottle of prosecco."

The whole property needs a deep clean and the facilities need to be improved, such as a new frying pan (the current one isn't fit for use), more kitchen utensils, and a hoover would be useful. The bathroom was mouldy (silicon filler, squeege, and the shower hose). There is no real view from the property, the only positive was the location, as we were within reach of several costal locations, we were left disappointed by the accommodation and felt out of the two properties on the site this one was neglected due to accepting dogs.

The properties are cleaned and maintained by ourselves to a high standard. Unfortunately on this occasion we was not on site for Changeover day and hired a cleaning company who’s attention to detail was not to our high standard resulting in a disappointing stay for yourselves. On our return to site a couple of days later I immediately came to speak to you regarding your concerns and to rectify any issues you had . I rasised these issues with the cleaning company and will not be using them again but I do understand this does not make up for your dissapointment . The fact that the property allows dogs makes us far more diligent with cleanliness and hygiene and this has never been an issue with our dog loving guests like yourselves in the past . We have noted your concerns over the kitchen utensils ect and made improvements in this area . Property Owner

Has all the comforts required including TV in bedroom. Owners extremely helpful but also not overpowering with their presence. Bryhersyones pub is just across the road and is lovely for meals and drinks, only open a short time and booking is essential. Hayburn Wake Waterfall is a beautiful woodland walk and Hayburn Wake Inn is a must afterwards. Sadly the farm shop is no longer open but next to the pub a local resident has a table with his home grown produce on and an honesty box, all were delicious. In the pictures of the property on Sykes web site the picture shows an open view but since this was taken the property has a hedge along the side of it , higher than the lodge and also can not see out that side of the property so it does make it a bit darker inside ( blocks four windows). Wether the owners feels this gives more privacy I’m not sure.

  • "Me and my wee Border Terrier, Wor Bob, arrived at The Maple, Cloughton at around 3:30pm."

There was a nice parking spot for my car. Upon entering the property, I knew straight away we were going to enjoy our stay. The lodge / caravan was very clean and tidy and we were greeted with wonderfully thoughtful gifts from the owners, Martin and Alison, including a bottle of fresh farm milk in the fridge, a box of two beautiful fresh cream and jam scones and a bag of treats for Bob ( they has even supplied a small dog bed and food bowl, should we have needed them ) The lodge was extremely warm and cozy and there was a " throw " on the settee and I had brought another, to ensure the furniture was protected if Bob had jumped up. The shower was very good and the bedroom was spotlessly clean ( I slept excellently in the comfy bed ) There was a big TV in the lounge area of the open plan room ( as well as a wal mounted TV in the double bedroom ), great wifi, an excellent electric fire ( which we never really needed ) and a very good gas central heating system. The kitchen area had everything we needed and all the appliances etc. were of a very good and well maintained standard. I had a nice chat with Martin, when I spotted him outside and called him over to introduce myself. He, and Alison, were lovely warm hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They kept their distance but were always at hand if we needed them. The perfect hosts. Martin gave me some great tips on places to visit and recommended eating and drinking spots ( we were directly opposite a pub restaurant and next door to a farm shop ) We visited Scarborough and had a wonderful walk around Peasholm park and a stroll along the beach. We had a day in Whitby and we enjoyed many wonderful walks with fabulous, panoramic views of the coastline. The nearest shop, a Tesco Express, was a five minute drive down the road in Burniston. We enjoyed a lovely drink in THe Red Lion pub in the village. The whole week was excellent, Everything was as we had hoped it would be and we will definitely be returning.I highly recommend this lovely holiday home.

There was a home made scone each with individual cream and jam which was very welcome with a cup of tea, we felt really welcome within the first 15 mins. Every utility we needed for a week was present including bedding, toiletries, Wi-Fi was fast and had a strong signal, the 2 TVs present (living room and bedroom) worked perfectly. There is a pub just outside the gates of the property that serves 5 star food, the landlord is very welcoming and a fountain of knowledge about the local area and where to go. You are within easy reach of the North Yorkshire Moors and the Heritage coast, we spent the week exploring them and never had to go the same place twice. The chalet we stayed in is about 2 miles from the nearest facilities but was in a nice cosy setting in the country with great proprietor,s on a working farm. One disappointment was that the description says "Boasting beautiful views of the surrounding countryside from the private decking," when in fact you can't really see the countryside for the hedge. Whilst this makes it more private it does block the view. Whilst we didn't want to cook a meal on this occasion, we felt that the kitchen wasn't very well equipped if you wanted to cook. Having said that, there were a couple of great pubs nearby, the Bryherstones across the road, and the Hayburn Wyke about a mile up the road. We can highly recommend the Bryherstones Country Inn over the road for a great meal - we had Sunday lunch and an evening meal there and the landlord is super-friendly. The coastal Walk from Salt Pans road up the Cleveland way to the Hayburn Wyke Pub (and waterfall) was well worth the effort (we are not regular hikers!) - great scenery on the walk and great food/beer BUT get there before 3pm as they stop food until the evening. A much gentler walk back along the Cinder Path back to Salt Pans road to work off the Angus burger!! All in all a very relaxing - and very much needed - stay at Craven's hill Park in the Maple Lodge. By the way they also have the Sequoia lodge next door which looks to be similarly equipped with the addition of a little garden area and hot tub - maybe on our next stay....

A very comfortable holiday home with everything you could need for a pleasant stay. Scarborough, Whitby and the North York Moors are all very close and there is a good selection of pubs and shops certainly easily reachable by car. We really recommend booking a table at the Bryherstones Inn across the road from Maple. Locally sourced and produced food in a friendly setting, all superbly cooked. One small word of warning. We also walked to the local pub (not the one over the road the one in the forest/plantation) to have tea via the road and cinder track. We also went to Robins Hood Bay which was about 20/25 mins away. The location is excellent. We could have stayed longer and will definitely be rebooking - we want to do Dalby Forest which is also In easy reach. All in alol a definite ideal place which helped us get over the disappointment of having Mallorca cancelled due to COVID-19. We would book the same accommodation but would try to get next door which has a hot tub first But not for pets and we took our pooch. We also received a Lovely welcome pack - an artisan loaf, jams, strawberries, cream and a fruit cake, even Baxter the dog got a welcome pack of treats! The property

Found in the quiet village of Cloughton, 4 miles north of Scarborough, is this delightful holiday home, The Maple.

Boasting beautiful views of the surrounding countryside from the private decking, this property is perfectly suited for couples or a small family wanting a break away in rural Yorkshire.

Enter the property and step into the open-plan living space, where you will find the modern fitted kitchen, and elegant dining area where you can sit around the table and share a delicious home cooked meal.

You can then retire to the sitting area, onto the inviting corner sofa and tune into the Smart TV for a cosy movie marathon, and if it's chilly outside then switch on the electric fire for ultimate comfort.

On the other side of the property you'll find the bedrooms; a double and a twin, along with the well-sized shower room with jack-and-jill access.

To the outside, and where you will spend most of your time in summer is the decking area complete with outdoor seating and furniture, which overlooks the spectacular lush countryside of Yorkshire, with another outdoor space to the side of the property with more seating on the astro-turf.

Cloughton itself is a great starting point for walking and cycling, with the 'Cinder Track' nearby, a disused 23-mile-long railway track, which is very popular and a great way to begin your exploration.

Another nearby trail you can hitch onto is Cleveland Way which is a national trail running along the coast, so you can hop on at Robin Hood's Bay and continue down and along the spectacular cliff tops into Scarborough.

The seaside town itself is somewhere you must visit, from the towering Scarborough Castle looking over the town on one side, and with sheer drops to the sea to the other, to the sandy North Bay and South Bay beaches, for a dip in the ocean!

The Maple will grant you the opportunity to enjoy the best of England's North East coast, from its rural trails and moors, to the seaside resort, you are sure to make fantastic memories.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

CLOUGHTON

Scarborough 4.8 miles; Ravenscar 6.3 miles; Robin Hood's Bay 11.6 miles; Whitby 14.8 miles.

Cloughton lies just under five miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Home to old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village boasts an eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional to bring a charming atmosphere to all its visitors, as well as offering a welcoming farm shop where you can pick up any essentials and two pubs on the main street and two on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', a disused 23 mile long railway track, that's now used for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way, a long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall and inn, Robin Hood's Bay and beyond to the north and south to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town of Scarborough retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child-friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. There are plenty of outdoor activities within easy reach too, with golf courses, coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing, offering something for every taste. Ideally situated for touring both the coast and countryside, Cloughton is an ideal base for a fun-filled break at any time of year.
