Very clean, friendly and helpful owners and the homemade bread with both milk and butter on arrival was delicious and a thoughtful touch. Idyllic setting, so peaceful which is just what we wanted. We will definitely be going again.

Train station to whitby/middlesborough is just minutes away, which is great, you can buy tickets on line or on the platform. Everything was there in the cottage that was needed and with instructions which is very helpful. The welcome pack was a lovely touch too, thank you.

  • "Manor Cottage is set in a stunning location and has its own unique charm."

Our stay was excellent and the hosts Olly and Laura were lovely. It location is ideal for some charming Esk Valley walks, getting to Grosmont and access to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway along with short drives to Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes etc.. We wanted to use the scheduled train from Egton Bridge to go to Whitby and avoid using the car but the 3 hour frequency of the service was a limiting factor. As for the house itself we felt very comfortable there and it was lovely and cosy with its biomass central heating. Once we’d tweaked the radiator valves and thermostat to our liking (the upstairs when we arrived tended to get too hot for us) there was no need to light the log burning stove. One unexpected benefit of a well built period cottage was you could barely hear our very raucous children from one room to the next. So a lie in was still possible even when they were below making lots of noise! For us little to fault but if we return as we hope to with a dog in future there isn’t an enclosed space to let them out to. Worth considering for any dog owners for the early morning toilet trip outdoors for their dog. Though if your dog is well socialised it should get on great with Olly and Laura’s dogs! A great stay. Thanks Olly & Laura

Cosy and well equipped with the softest beds for a great nights sleep. Superb location for walking and no less than 4 pubs nearby at Egton Bridge and Egton. The Wheatsheaf at Egton is highly recommended with great new hosts that took over in late 2022. You wont be disappointed. God's country.

  • "This last minute break was a gem to find."

Hosts Laura and Olly were so friendly and accommodating, they couldn’t do enough for us. The cottage was first class with everything you need and the bed was so comfortable I want one for home. Although just the 2 of us, along with Billy the Spaniel, there would be plenty of room for a family, with lots of outside space for any kids to explore and play. Location was great with 2 local pubs serving lovely meals, miles of country walks (although dogs must be kept on a lead at all times) on our doorstep and within easy travelling distance to the local areas such as Whitby, Scarborough etc. Anyone looking for a quiet beautiful base in the North Yorkshire moors area should definitely think about booking Manor Cottage. We loved every minute of our stay. Thank you Laura and Olly.

  • "We have just had a fantastic week staying at Manor Cottage which is located in the grounds of the Egton Estate."

What an amazing find! Laura and Olly could not have been more helpful and welcoming and are amazing hosts. The location is perfect as it’s tucked away on a small private path with miles of lovely walks right from your doorstep. The cottage is beautiful and obviously well loved. The living room is cosy and has a log burner for the winter months. The village has two really nice pubs within walking distance who both serve excellent food. The local train station is literally two minutes away where you can catch the train to Whitby. You can also take a stroll to Grosmont and catch the steam train to Pickering, which is like stepping back in time. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommended it to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings.

The location and grounds are idillic. Bedrooms and bathroom fantastic. Sitting room excellent. Kitchen area brilliant - only comment would be to upgrade to the saucepans as they had loose handles and were not very non- stick anymore. We self catered and so.made good used of all facilities in kitchen. A nice touch would be to also have a bread bin to keep bread fresher during the week.

Nice to have pubs within walking distance and easy access to Whitby and the moors. Had expected the furnishings to be to a higher standard - usually stay in National Trust or Rural Retreats cottages which are more like a home from home. Could have done with more crockery and glasses in the kitchen.

The cottage is wonderful, and much bigger than the pictures would suggest. The location was perfect for us too. As a family with small children we were able to do small walks from the doorstep or take a stroll to Grosmont to catch the steam train. Laura, Olly and their lovely children were so welcoming and kind, always there if we needed anything. We definitely intend to return, there’s so much to do there that we felt we barely scratched the surface, and the cottage is a perfect home for us while we explore.

  • "Very convenient spot for a holiday on the edge of Egton village (home to two lovely pubs and a train station) - good walks from house to nearby villages such as Grosmont (steam train, village shop, cafes, gallery)."

The cottage itself is very spacious and comfortable - made even more cosy by an easy to use log burning stove in the sitting room and an ample supply of seasoned logs. Charming and helpful hosts live in the adjacent manor house and supplied us with some great DVDs. It was really peaceful - no road noise which is very important for me and you could hear owls calling in the morning. Also beautiful starry skies as there's no light pollution there. Couple of downsides - no washing machine (unless we just couldn't find it) and it was a VERY muddy week with a lot of rain. The kitchen is large but could have been better equipped it was adequate but if you are going to be cooking up a storm every night (that was not us) then you might want to check what's available at the house in case you need to bring anything to supplement what's provided. Having said that the kitchen actually had sharp knives which is very welcome in a holiday let. If you are someone who likes a very well lit place the cottage looks out on the back to woodland so its dappled light and at the front is in a courtyard with a building in front so its not as well lit as some places I've stayed in - this being more noticeable of course in autumn/winter. There is an area at the front with a table, chairs and BBQ which will be lovely in spring/summer and early autumn but there isn't a garden sort of area you can sit in. Having said all this the pluses definitely outweigh the negatives in particular being able to walk out of the front door straight onto footpaths was just perfect and having excellent heating/ endless hot water, a really comfortable sitting room and lovely large bathroom. The local pubs are very good and its a short drive to Whitby (loved the abbey), Robin Hoods Bay (fabulous beach). We also went to Staithes, Richmond and Saltburn (good farmers market and beautiful beach).

Wonderful cottage and grounds.owners are fabulous. Although the village is small and and not a lot of amenities it does have two of the best pubs around the area which serve fantastic Food..The Postgate pub is just a four minute walk from our cottage. What Egton does have is a small train station, right next to the Postgate pub ,perfect for getting into Whitby as parking can be difficult in high season and if you fancy a meal and a drink you don’t have to worry about driving .(cannot hear the trains from the cottage by the way) Great walks from the doorstep of the cottage and I just can’t recommend Manor Cottage enough 5⭐️

  • "We wanted a quiet, cosy and charming place for Christmas and we weren't disappointed."

We were made very welcome and the cottage easily accommodated our three families in comfort. There's a beautiful log burner in the main living room but to be honest you could just live with the central heating which was more than adequate for the Cottage. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom had amble hot water for much needed showers after a brisk walk in the country. Egton village is well served by both the National Railways and also the North Yorkshire moors railway. If you fancy a walking holiday just hop on a train then hop off at the next stop and walk back ... perfect. Whitby, Pickering and of course Gothland are within easy reach by car or by train. Egton also has a good choice of village pubs (turn right at the top of the cottage and one pub is 50 meters up the road ... what more can you ask for?). The other pubs, further up the hill and in the village, offer a handsome choice of pub meals to a high standard as well as a good selection of local beers !! Watch out for the owners dog ... once you start making a fuss and start stroking it ... it'll sit there for hours lapping up every bit of affection you can give it. The perfect addition to a country house. The Cottage is well situated geographically and offers an uncluttered escape to country with warmth and comfort. Book soon ... we're planning our next visit already. We couldn't fault it. Enjoy.

  • "We were absolutely delighted with Manor cottage, which was very well equipped, and in the most idyllic location."

The owners Mr and Mrs Foster were the perfect hosts, they greeted us on our arrival but then left us to enjoy our holiday. My husband is a heritage builder so he loves to stay in cottages which have lots of character and original features . We chose to stay at Egton bridge as we like to dine out and as we have ate at The Wheatsheaf and The Post Gate many times before ,we decided to book Manor cottage as it was near our favourite places to eat , rather than in Whitby where we have stayed for the last 25 years. We also enjoy to walk and there was lots of places to do so right on our doorstop. Also Manor cottage allowed dogs which was very important to us because we like to bring our dog on holiday with us. We will most certainly be booking again to stay at Manor cottage and we will be booking through Yorkshire Coastal Cottages as we could not fault your company in any way. All of your staff were extremely helpful and gave a true and honest description of Manor Cottage so there was no nasty surprises on our arrival.
