Whinstone Cottage is a charming retreat nestled in the heart of the Esk Valley, located on the rail trail between Grosmont and Goathland, within the North York Moors National Park, near Grosmont, North Yorkshire.

With a large, enclosed garden this pet-friendly sanctuary is ideal for families or groups of friends looking for a peaceful getaway amidst breath taking natural scenery.

With the banks of the Murk Esk at the bottom of the garden, sit back and watch herons, owls and if you’re very lucky, the Kingfishers.

Early risers might even catch a glimpse of a family of deer who are residents in this area.

Upon entering Whinstone Cottage, you'll be welcomed by a cosy sitting room, complete with a warming electric stove.

Adjacent to this, you'll find the cosy snug, featuring a wood burning stove, offering an additional area for relaxation.

The heart of the home is undoubtedly the kitchen/diner, well-equipped for all your culinary needs, where you can gather around the dining table to enjoy home-cooked meals and plan the day's adventures.

Grosmont is the main hub for the steam trains, only a mile walk away; explore the engine sheds or maybe take a trip on one of the many historic steam trains.

As the day draws to a close, retire to one of the two welcoming bedrooms, comprising a double and a twin, both offering a serene setting to rest after a day of exploration.

Serving the bedrooms is a modern traditional bathroom with bath, basin and WC, where you can enjoy a refreshing, or relaxing soak whatever the time of day.

Train enthusiasts will appreciate the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, particularly stopping at Goathland Station, which gained popularity through its appearance as Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films.

The property is a glorious walk along the Rail Trail to the Birch Hall Inn, a grade 2 listed historic Inn at Beck Hole and a further mile walk takes you to Goathland, famous for the TV series Heartbeart and the spectacular Mallyan Spout Waterfall.

GROSMONT

The pretty village of Grosmont sits at the junction of the River Esk and Murk Esk in the midst of striking North Yorkshire Moors scenery. The area is characterised by its narrow roads, steep hills and scenic views over valleys of patchwork fields and wide-open expanses of moorland. Grosmont itself lies in the ‘Heartbeat Country’ and is famous for being the home of the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Railway has been preserved and run by enthusiasts since 1973 and today carries upwards of 300,000 passengers a year. The village has a general store, post office, book shop, art gallery, cafes and a pub. It makes a great base for exploring the many pretty farming villages along the Esk Valley and the wider North York Moors National Park, as well as the North Yorkshire Coastline with characterful harbour towns and villages.
