  • "We had a lovely stay."

Clean, comfortable and no problems. The patio was sunny and sheltered. Parking was close. Didn’t find the fly spray till the last day. Country flies don’t seem to want to leave once they’re in. Should have looked under the sink sooner! We would certainly return.

  • "The owners need to review their contract with their cleaning services, they are definitely not getting value for money."

Kettle and toaster were disgusting, we purchased cheap ones from Tesco for our use. TV is very out of date. Patio doors jamming and difficult to open. Advertised use of table and chairs for outdoor eating but didn’t state garden was very overgrown and grass was growing through patio slabs. The sheet on the double bed had 3 wear holes and was ripped, whoever made the bed MUST have seen these, this was extremely disappointing, never had this before. Stair carpet was dirty. A deep clean is needed throughout. We will be back to The Bay but not in this cottage.

Thank you for your feedback. We are obviously disappointed that you encountered problems and can only assume that these were due to a temporary glitch with our cleaning company, we have contacted them to resolve this. However their contact details are within the welcome folder and we are sure a phone call would have resolved these issues in a timely manner. The maintenance of the outside areas is the responsibility of 'The Bay' management team and we have previously made them aware of the condition of the patio & gardens, we have brought this to their attention again. We also note your comment about the stair carpet, this is deep cleaned annually but is of course subject to wear & tear during the season. Property Owner

  • "The cottage had everything we needed for our weeks stay, the bed was very comfortable, the bath big and the shower excellent."

In the kitchen there are adequate cooking and washing facilities and the cutlery and utensil drawers well stocked. The only minor criticism is the car parking, which, like everywhere in the village is first come first served so it was not always possible to park close.

  • "Very difficult to park at busy Bank Holiday weekend."

No instructions for central heating control. Need eyes in back of your head to have a wet shave. Mirror in bathroom could do with a backlight. When removing pillow slips, some pillows were badly stained and need replacing.

Thank you for your feedback. There is no reserved parking on The Bay for guests so that is something we can do nothing about, however there are usually spaces available outside the office, approx 20m from the house. The central heating is explained in the information folder located on the sideboard, adjacent to the thermostat. We were unaware of the issue with the pillows, we can only apologise for this and will replace them as necessary. Property Owner

  • "Excellent property, very clean and tidy with plenty of towels and pots and pans."

Everything was easy to find and instructions simple to follow. TV tricky to work but in all honesty, I enjoy The Bay as a chance to switch off from TV and media so it was a plus for me & the kids. The only issue was parking as this was very difficult outside the property due to shared parking. Parking was difficult all over The Bay for this first time, I assume due to growing popularity and we had to park a distance away in some instances. For us this property was very good and I would recommend to couples or families with slightly older children.

  • "This was a very well equipped little house and we would really like to book it again BUT the bathroom really let it down enormously !"

!!!! The sealant around the corner of the bath was black and the grouting under the mixer tap was brown and well stained. Surely this could be sorted very easily before occupants arrived. We were very disappointed indeed. Not very welcoming or indeed conducive to showering or bathing at all ! I have taken photos which I am hoping to send into you too.

Hello Thank you for your feedback, we will contact our cleaners and ensure the bathroom is cleaned up. Regards Steve & Diane Cook Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous time at the Cottage because it was so comfortable and relaxing, nicely decorated, spacious, everything is provided including towels and bedding and all kitchen equipment."

It is near some great beaches (Scarborough, Bridlington) and there is loads to explore nearby such as the RSPB site or Filey Animal Park. It isnt 100% clear from your summary that Sunny Corner Cottage, Filey is at The Bay Park near Filey which is a holiday park for private owners and not a Cottage in Filey. We were not told this until we had booked and paid our money. It does include access to a pool and restaurant and it is a well maintained site. We were not actually looking for a park setting. We failed to put the heating on and also lacked a pyrex for cooking in however these were snags in an otherwise superb stay.

  • "The description of the house and facilities is reasonably accurate when was new but seems it is a little tired now and in need of a little TLC inside and out."

We had a couple of issues with regards to cleanliness which I see was highlighted before but does not seem to have been addressed. First we arrived and as we started unpacking noticed large black hairs on and in the bed. Further inspection showed all bed linen had same issue so possibly due to prior occupants having dog or poor washing. Whatever the reason we’re not clean and would have been obvious to whoever fitted so not sure why they just did not change to clean linen. I called the service number and to be fair they were there within 30mins and changed the linen. Have to say the quality of the linen they changed to was dramatic improvement too. The cleaning should really be addressed and I don’t see how the owners are complying with the COVID cleaning guidelines you have set. First with linen example given, second the general cleanliness was poor. Whoever does the cleaning covers the basics, so toilet, sinks but that’s it. Oven, extractor, windows, radiators etc all showed signs that were not cleaned and had not been cleaned for some time. The first evening we put a pan of water on for some pasta. After few minutes heating I noticed something in the water, located it to be something dripping from the extractor filter. The filters were dirty with old oil residue that had heated and then dropped into the water. I ended up cleaning the filters to avoid it happening again and when looked inside the extractor hood was full of cobwebs showing had not been used or cleaned for some time. Outside the garden area at the rear of the property was again intended for some time with weeds 2-3 feet high in places. The location is great with the fantastic beach close by. Facilities and food at the onsite cafe and pub was excellent so I would return to the resort but not this particular property. I would also ask if the price paid was higher than precovid times to cover extra cleaning costs? If so and given the issues I would be happy to have this refunded as clearly this extra effort is not happening at this property. I hope the feedback is useful to help the owners give the property some much needed TLC as would be in their interest to do so. Happy to be contacted to discuss any of this further, have pictures too if needed.

Hello Mr Render Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at our cottage. We are very disappointed and can only apologise that things were not up to the standards that we want to offer to our guests. It is our intention to offer a very relaxing and problem free vacation to our guests and certainly do not expect them to have to clean the extractor filters. We replace the bedding and towels regularly so there should not be any difference between sets. We are visiting the property ourselves next week and will be having a long discussion with our cleaners/laundry to discover why the standards appear to have dropped & ensure these problems do not continue. Unfortunately the maintenance of the patio area and planting is the responsibility of the resort management but we have already emailed the Manager and requested he takes action to tidy this area up. Once again please accept our apologies and we hope you will consider staying at Sunny Corner Cottage again in the future. Steve & Diane Cook Property Owner

  • "Probably my fault for not specifically reading the listing for the exact facilities available, but its pretty usual to expect WiFi as standard in a holiday let and its such a big thing for any accommodation, especially when having to work whilst away, having childrens ipads, laptops for Netflix etc."

This made things really awkward for us during the trip, although again just to be clear the holiday let does not claim to have WiFi; this was something I simply assumed would be available. Don't normally leave feedback but think this is important as several previous guests have made the same comments in the guest book and don't want anyone else to make a similar mistake. Everything else regarding the Let was fine, exactly as advertised and expected. Good property if WiFi isn't something you'd require.

Highly recommended. Everyone helpful and friendly on site. Amenities and furnishings in cottage and on the complex were first class. Short walk to beach. Everywhere dog friendly which was such a bonus. Only 1 small criticism is the cottage key security box wouldn’t open however the site office supplied us with spare key to use instead.

  • "First impressions of this property were good - very well cleaned and spotless."

Overall we had a good holiday but had one or two major problems : 1) There was no WIFI at the property - had we known we would not have booked this house as I work from home and require internet access. I should have checked that it had but I normally assume now that everywhere has it. 2) On my EE mobile there was only an occasional 4G signal anywhere within the house - I receive emails on my mobile but had to get them while we were out or on the beach - not ideal. 3) I attempted to use the outside table for mobile use but above the door of the house next door (no.4) was a wasps nest - we soon abandoned the outside table. I did inform the reception at the Bay but nothing had happened before we left. We could not recommend the property to family or friends.

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
