Spacious with all the fittings required. However ....... Duvet on double bed upstairs smelt awful. Had to swop it for one of the singles downstairs. Radiator in double room did not work. In fact I think it is there just for show and false promises. TV upstairs didn't work. Struggled to get the downstairs one to work - bear in mind we are from South Africa and instructions would make sense to UK people with similar sets at home, but would need more detail for overseas visitors. Remotes had flat batteries. Surely this is something one checks before letting out a property or at least have spare batteries handy? Upstairs bedroom has very sloping ceiling and walls painted one colour which is great for making a room look larger than it is but I was almost concussed and had a headache after knocking my head whilst bending over to switch on the bedside lamp. Fridge was made by a giant and I couldn't reach to the egg container without a ladder. The shed obscuring most of the view is really an eyesore. Why didn’t we contact the owner with our problems? Because calls were neither answered nor returned apart from the one made on the day of arrival when we were given the number of the key access safe. Found this all a tad unfriendly. Didn’t expect to be invited over to theirs but a simple, “Hi! Is everything okay?” would have been appreciated.

About the location

GLAISDALE

Whitby 9 miles; Pickering 21 miles.

A peaceful village on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Glaisdale is set amongst beautiful countryside in the heart of the Esk Valley. The village itself has a post office in the general store, an excellent butcher (famed for his pork pies) and one hotel/pub, with restaurant. Further afield, Whitby and the coast are just 9 miles away whilst the quaint moorland villages of Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham and Thornton Dale and the market town of Pickering are all within easy touring distance. For something a little quieter, why not take a trip to the less-discover gem of Saltburn by the Sea, a charming, Victorian seaside resort. The terminus of the North York Moors Railway is at nearby Grosmont, inviting you to take a steam railway ride back in history through beautiful moorland scenery.
