  • "The property is nice size, with a great sized kitchen and is well located for all of the amenities and for discovering the local area and handy for a stroll into the pretty centre and for the plethora of local supermarkets."

The bedrooms are well proportioned, and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. Bedding and towels all fresh and clean. The kitchen itself was a challenge though - there are very few utensils there making some aspects of cooking quite hard (e.g no big bowl for a salad, no big serving spoons, not enough pans of the right sizes etc). The glassware and plates and cups were not clean (we had to wash all of them by hand them before use) but this could perhaps be that the dishwasher needs cleaning. The outdoor table and chairs were not clean either. And whilst we spotted a BBQ and it was perfect weather for using it, it was covered in grimy food remnants and not something any of felt like we wanted to do. The bathroom was clean but was challenging to move the shower head which was held in place with a cable tie. The ad states Wi-Fi but we could not find a code anywhere in the information book so could not benefit from it. We also could not locate an outside bin to dispose of the rubbish. We feel that It would also be useful to explain where else to park your car (as parking is very limited) if you cannot park across the road - as we struggled with this when we first arrived.

  • "Had a lovely stay at White Rose Cottage."

Plenty of local dog friendly amenities. Plenty of places to go and visit - Saltburn, Whitby, Robin Hood Bay and Scarborough. Parking is on a first come first serve basis. Bin in bathroom not emptied from previous guests and kitchen needed a clean. Outdoor bin was three quarters full when we arrived. These things can be easily sorted.

On the upside the beds were very comfy and the bath and shower were great. Lovely little place and we would stay here again.

  • "This property was dirty, the dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, kitchen cupboards required to be cleaned before use and the sofa had numerous stains."

Lack of pots, there was only 2, dust on skirting boards and walls, curtains in lounge not properly secured, windows dirty and no privacy in the lounge due to lack of blinds and the window looks out onto the main street. Very disappointing especially for the price we paid.

  • "The property has a large kitchen that is equipped with everything you need."

Two good sized bedrooms with comfy beds and plenty of space for clothes. Outside is a secure patio and plenty of free street parking just across on the cobbles. The welcome gifts were much appreciated. Just a few points to be raised with the cleaning staff: microwave was covered inside with dried on food, the freezer hasn’t been defrosted in a very long time (colossal amount of ice in top compartment), tiles above the bath had stains from previous use (needed scrubbing), shower screen needs replacing (dirty broken seal), lounge very dusty around tv unit & coffee table, crumbs and dust down side of sofa & chairs, large stains on wall, previous occupants dirty socks found under bed. Overall, the cottage could be really nice, it just needs some TLC.

This was a lovely wee cottage with great facilities. The Kitchen and Bathroom looks newly fitted modern and clean. However the living room sofa was stained. Found lots of debris and old food under it, we cleaned it as our dog wouldn't stop sniffing under it. Now we know why. The bedroom were spacious and clean, beds comfortable can get hot at night, maybe a mirror in the second bedroom would be helpful. Three girls using one mirror to do hair was a challenge. Outdoor seating area was a sun trap was nice to sit in the evenings. Guisborough village is very pretty loads of restaurants and coffee shops who accept dogs. Lots of shops and supermarkets all in walking distance. It's a good base to travel to Whitby, Saltburn by the sea, Yarm and Middlesbrough plus more.

The enclosed, dog safe patio was lovely to catch some sun and the kitchen diner is spacious, well equipped and with plenty of storage space. We would definitely stay here again! Property is well situated for days out to the coast and Guisborough has a nice variety of local shops and a fantastic bakers - highly recommend the sausage rolls! Guisborough Priory is well worth a visit.

  • "This property is well equipped and comfortable."

The bottle of wine, biscuits, milk, tea and coffee on arrival were much appreciated. Although the property is on a main road we slept in the twin room at the back as we have the windows open at night and we didn't hear a thing. The kitchen/dining area is spacious and leads outside to an enclosed area which catches the sun in the afternoon and fortunately we did have some nice days so were able to sit outside. This was our first stay in Guisborough and there are lots of lovely walks in the area. We intend to return next year to do more walking and will definitely book this cottage again.

  • "We really enjoyed our week at White Rose Cottage, but there was a couple of problems that need mentioning."

    1. Even though we are coming out of the quieter winter period for holiday rentals (time to catch up on jobs around the property), the decor was tatty and grubby. Marks on the paintwork, paint flaking off in patches. It needs a spruce up. 2. The standard of cleaning was poor, particularly in the kitchen. The toaster, oven top and extractor hood was dirty with dust and/or grease. Layers of dust on top of items (including the kitchen bin, which also needed us to put in a liner). Dust on top of items around the property, including skirting boards. An asthma inhaler found under the bed! Towels with bleach marks all over them. Rusty toilet brush holder. No cover on the bathroom light. Patio furniture was filthy and the patio floor needs a clean. Junk just thrown in the outhouse. We got the impression that the owner doesn't care about the state of their property, even though customers are paying hard earned money to stay there. Shame really.

Parking reasonably easy on the side of the road opposite the cottage. The only difficulty for me was the very soft mattress, which might be great for some people, but not good for my bad back! We would definitely come back to this cottage again though.

When we got inside the cottage, there were damp patches on a number of the walls, with paint peeling in some areas. The cottage was spacious and light and had all the facilities that we needed. However, the cleanliness of the cottage was not satisfactory. The bin in the bathroom had not been emptied and was full of used sanitary towels, the toaster looked as if someone had just had toast and left crumbs everywhere, there was dried food debris inside the microwave and mould inside the bread bin. I messaged the owner who did visit the following morning to clean. However, due to the covid 19, I would have expected a higher standard of cleanliness and due to this, I would return to the cottage.

It was an excellent location for many birding sites in the area. Overall we were very pleased with the cottage. It was immaculately clean, it was warm, with plenty of hot water, good quality towels, and beds comfortable. Our only criticism was absence of one or two kitchen basics - important if you are self catering. We would have liked a very large saucepan and a casserole dish, and maybe a couple of tea trays but these are minor points, and we managed. A mirror in the second bedroom would be good. Could we suggest that more guidance about car parking would help future guests - although in the event we didn't have any problem putting the car just across the street. Also instructions about what to with our rubbish and recycling. Having said all that we were quite happy and had a lovely time in a very beautiful part of the U.K.

About the location

GUISBOROUGH

Saltburn-by-the-Sea 6 miles; Staithes 13 miles; Whitby 21 miles.

Guisborough is an attractive market town set in rural surroundings on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. Steeped in history, Guisborough is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the town's most notable feature is the beautiful ruined abbey, Gisborough Priory; standing in full glory, to its original height of 97 feet, the dramatic gothic east gable towers high over the market town and has become a well-known icon of the town. This bustling small town has twice-weekly market days, a good selection of eateries, excellent pubs and many independent shops. Around Guisborough sits the spectacular woodland of Guisborough Forest. Guisborough Forest & Walkway is situated in Pinchinthorpe on the outskirts of Guisborough at the northern end of the A173. It extends for 2.5 miles along part of the route followed by the old Guisborough Branch Railway line, heading west towards Nunthorpe, and east to Guisborough Forest, which is managed by Forest Enterprise. It is a gateway site to the North York Moors National Park and offers splendid views of Roseberry Topping to the south. Points of local interest include Highcliff Nab and Hanging Stone. Captain Cook 92s Monument is also within walking distance. The Cleveland Way and the Tees Link walks pass through Guisborough Forest, and are just two of the many walking routes easily accessible to visitors. This super country park has cycle trails, walking routes, bridleways, a trim trail and an easier sculpture trail. The park includes the Guisborough Walkway which runs along the former trackbed of the Middlesbrough to Whitby railway line. This includes a wetland area with boardwalks, woodlands and grasslands. You can also climb Highcliff Nab for fabulous views of Teeside and the coast. The park is also very popular with mountain bikers with a number of super trails to explore. There is an excellent visitor centre with full details of all the trails in the park. The long distant trail of the Cleveland Way passes close by, whilst nearby Roseberry Topping is well worth the climb to take in the spectacular views. An easy thirty minute drive brings you to the Heritage Coastline, with historic villages and resorts, including Staithes, Saltburn and Whitby to enjoy.
