Maple Cottage, a charming cottage, built in the 1800s, in the lovely village of Ingleton, in County Durham.

Maple Cottage is exceptionally well-equipped and situated to provide an excellent base for a group or family who wish to explore this beautiful corner of England.

The living and dining area is beautifully furnished with cosy sofas and armchairs and a spacious dining table with comfortable chairs.

With its beautiful exposed beams and cosy woodburning stove, this is a lovely place to relax at the end of the day or enjoy a lazy morning before setting off to explore this splendid area.

The kitchen is fully integrated and well-appointed providing all you will need for a self-catering holiday.

But, if you fancy eating out, the Black Horse is a cosy, traditional pub in the village and serves home-cooked food, cask ales and a warm welcome.

Or, if the weather allows, perhaps eat al fresco?

Maple Cottage has a south-facing garden to the rear of the cottage - with glorious views over open countryside –and is complete with decking, wooden walkway, garden furniture and a barbeque for your use.

Upstairs, you will find a bright, spacious double bedroom with wonderful views of the countryside which surrounds the village.

The cottage also has a lovely second bedroom and, with a fabulous king-sized bed, promises a great night’s sleep.

You will find the bathroom is very well designed with a shower, or bath to sink into after a long day, and the added comfort of a heated towel rail.

Maple Cottage boasts a truly exceptional location from which to explore the many attractions of the area.

This part of County Durham is very beautiful with a rich history and stunning landscapes; it abounds with river walks, castles, historic villages, and market towns and some of the finest museums in the North East of England.

There are great country walks straight from the doorstep and, within just a few minutes’ drive, you will find the splendour of Raby Castle with its beautiful walled gardens, extensive deer park and the tree-top walkways of the Plotter’s Forest adventure play area for children.

The medieval market town of Barnard Castle is just ten minutes’ drive away and boasts many independent shops and cafes, a spectacular ruined castle and the vast French chateau-style Bowes Museum and Gardens.

After a further ten minute drive up into Teesdale, you will reach one of the finest plant nurseries in the North of England - Eggleston Hall Gardens.

These stunning walled Gardens have a tearoom, artist studios and a wonderful ruined chapel.

A short drive on will take you through the spectacular scenery of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty with ancient woodland, white-painted barns, dry stone walls, rare and beautiful flower meadows, and England’s highest waterfall, High Force.

There is something for every season in this lovely area of County Durham.

Headlam Hall’s luxury spa and golf course is just a couple of miles up the road from Maple Cottage.

Nearby Bishop Auckland is home to the UK’s first art gallery dedicated to the Spanish Golden Age; the beautiful Auckland Palace and deer park; a mining museum celebrating the area’s heritage; and a spectacular Faith museum.

In the late summer months, Bishop Auckland plays host to Kynren, a multi-award winning outdoor show that takes you on a journey through 2,000 years of English history.

Performed by a 1,000 strong cast, you will see special effects, pyrotechnics and incredible horsemanship.

Ingleton is a quaint village resting in the southwest region of County Durham, set between the market town of Darlington and the village of Eggleston. Ingleton is best known as the home of The Church of St John the Evangelist, which was constructed in 1843 and is currently Grade II listed. The village and its immediate surroundings feature attractions such as Raby Castle, Deer Park & The Plotters' Forest, the tranquil grounds of the Raby Estates, with dining options including the Black Horse, Ingleton, The Foxhole at Piercebridge, The Spotted Dog at High Conniscliffe and The Country Tea Shop & Restaurant in Staindrop a short drive west.
