A friendly greeting from the owner on arrival, and the nice welcome pack was much appreciated. The cottage was cosy, very clean and tidy, with everything we needed for our stay. The weather was variable, but didn't spoil our stay, and a log fire every night was a special treat. The village has a lovely country pub, open all day for food and drink, and just a short walk from the cottage, useful after a day's sightseeing. The coast is not far, and the surrounding wolds countryside is great. A visit to the Rudston monolith and church is a must do, and 3miles away. Would fully recommend.

Nice and quiet for a relaxing holiday. Lovely welcome pack on arrival. Well equipped with everything we needed. Only slight negatives was - no room in kitchen cupboards for guests food (but I have found this in many S/C cottages we have stayed in over the years) and the didn't realise what a 'Jack and Jill' bathroom was. As we were staying with friends, and not family, this was not ideal as it could get quiet noisy! My fault entirely but just be aware.

"If you are looking for a cottage that is immaculate, comfortable and in the perfect location Acorn Cottage is the one!"
! Acorn Cottage is ideally located for the North Yorkshire Moors, York, Beverley, Driffield, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Thornton le Dale ( For Mathewsons / Bangers and Cash fans), Pickering, Goathland (for Heartbeat fans), Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington and Flamborough plus the little known top tip place from the owner Danes Dyke - an absolutely stunning area of natural beauty, marine conservation at its best. Back to the cottage, the owners are next door - not that you would know, communication before and during our stay has been brilliant, very helpful and welcoming and our privacy maintained. The cottage is a tardis, all the rooms are large and spacious, two very big comfy sofas in the lounge. The kitchen is light and airy, great for cooks, pans and kitchen equipment are all high spec and I must add, easy to use! The dining area is large enough for a family or six people (cottage sleeps 4 so plenty of room). The area opens out on to a little patio area, keeping the area sociable inside and out. Lovely sun trap and so is the seating on the lawn. The tranquillity of the cottage is lovely. Yes there is a country lane outside but there is hardly any traffic at all, the birds make more noise than any cars. The large hallway is great for coats, shoes, brollies and wellies - you never know with the good old Great British Weather! There is a log burner for cooler nights and a huge basket of logs should you need them. The TV has Netflix and the cottage has superfast WIFI. Central heating and plenty of constant hot water at your fingertips. Upstairs, note; the cottage stairs are steep/deep stairs, on the plus side I have had a good workout, on the downside, they aren't suitable for people with mobility issues or small children climbing unaided. The bedrooms are large and airy. The windows are great on hot days and the heating is welcome on the cooler evenings. There is a Jack and Jill bathroom that is high spec and spacious. Both bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe space, side cupboards/drawers, a hairdryer, fan for those particularly hot days and extra bedding. Luxury bedding and towels are provided. The beds are extremely comfy, you get a really good nights sleep. The area is so quiet day and night, lovely for star gazing too. Field views to the front and overlooking the garden. The garden is lawned with patio seating areas and full of busy birds, all happy to say hello to you!! Facilities include; radio, washing machine, dishwasher, iron and ironing board, vacuum, child friendly equipment such as stairgates on request, the cottage caters for a family stay. With regards to parking, plenty of room for cars on the lane, park on the grass opposite, as do the locals. The lawns are all maintained beautifully. The cottage is on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Kilham, set in stunning countryside, it has a great pub and country shop, beautiful looking church and has everything you would expect from village life - a community with heart. I would highly recommend Acorn Cottage and we will definitely be returning.

Very clean and well equipped, it is a cosy, characterful cottage in a great location. There are walks from the village, rolling Wolds scenery and it is a short drive to some spectacular coastal walks. We really felt at home and there is also a nice garden to relax in. The cottage has views across farm fields and the road it is on is very quiet- it leads to the area David Hockney immortalised in his series of Woldgate paintings through the Seasons.
