  • "A wonderful cottage in a beautiful village."

The North Yorkshire countryside is stunning. The North Yorkshire moors steam railway is brilliant and the train trip into Whitby is well worth the trip. Whitby and Scarborough together with Scarborough Castle are also worth a trip. Overall we had a very relaxing time and the next visit will be for at least two weeks as there is so much more to see. Thoroughly recommend the stay.

  • "Hello, what can I say except it was in every way possible from the start on the Saturday our Holiday was absolutely fantastic and joy, on entering the Cottage what a truly wonderful place everything you needed was there on hand."

From the ground floor to the second bedroom upstairs from myself and my wife we had a perfect holiday in every possible way. Our two friends who are elderly in there middle to high 70s in age found the metal staircase a bit of a hike, but managed alright. We went out every single day. There was so much to do I personally absolutely loved every minute and every second of the holiday if we could of stayed longer we would have 5 star I'd give 1000 stars. Recommend that you have a car to get around, and sightseeing amazing, weather good, the Lion inn upon Blakey Ridge superb. Fillet steak simply the best £30 worth the money and the staff excellent. Heartbeat country wow the walks there beautiful got to be pretty fit.all in all the holiday was fantastic. Thanks to the owner and to Sykes cottages for giving us a truly incredible break and holiday.

  • "This is a lovely holiday let in the heart of Kirkbymoorside."

Everything we needed on hand. Plenty of space to spread out in and two bathrooms was a definite advantage. The accommodation was really cosy with sun streaming in the rear of the property in the morning and then the front in the late afternoon. Had we been staying in summer, we could have cooled down with the thick blinds and fans provided. No need to take tea, coffee etc as these were provided and the biscuits and wine on arrival were a treat. All cleaning products were also provided, We love the area and would not hesitate to book here again. Thanks to Sykes, we always find lovely holiday accommodation. X

The very minor reasons I did not give full points were because the heating did not come on (we only needed it for the last day - maybe it was still in summer mode) . This will not deter me from booking this little gem again - perfect for two couples and very reasonably priced compared to some over-priced places. Thank you Sykes, and thank you to the owners. from Ken and Steve Burton (brothers).

The apartment was great, spotlessly clean, cosy and had everything we needed. We were left tea, coffee, milk etc to start off our stay and some lovely wine and biscuits. The owners very kindly arranged for their neighbour to bring us 2 electric fans because the weather was so hot. Loved Kirkbymoorside and good location for touring. We highly recommend it and hope to be back soon.

I do think though that the rather steep & narrow attic bedroom staircase should be emphasized as being unsuitable for elderly or infirm persons. One of our party would not have been able to cope.

Beds very comfy. Good base to explore the local area including the coast & North Yorkshire moors. We had a minor problem which was dealt with quickly & efficiently by Sykes. Property is not suitable for disabled people unable to climb stairs. Problems with access to car park area due to inconsiderate road users parked across the entrance to the car park restricting access. During our stay we had no TV at all due to major problems with the local transmitter. We had not been informed of this & it remains an ongoing problem which we feel the owners should be dealing with eg. Sky box & dish required. We don't watch TV all the time but would like the option after a long day's sightseeing.

Great location for walking to everything in the village. Bed was comfortable and great size bath. Delicatessen opposite does great ready meals and lovely cakes. Would be happy to book again. Cleaners didn't arrive until 10 minutes before we were meant to takeover the property citing an extra clean they'd been asked to do for delay, this in turn meant it was well after 4pm before we could enter. A duplex apartment, which had been restored to an exceptional level . All the furniture and furnishings were also very high quality throughout the whole apartment. Nothing had been overlooked. We took loads of things with us, but this was the best equipped place we have stayed in, and we have stayed in a lot all over the world. There was a bottle of wine and some biscuits waiting for us + milk in the fridge. We wished we had know just how many things were available for us to use, we had a very full car with all the items we had taken! You do not need anything - at all! The apartment is in the centre of the small town, a very good place to stay to get to Whitby/Pickering/Hemsley, etc and only an hour from Wetherby. An allocated car space was brilliant. Could not fault 'The Smithy' at all. Would highly recommend. Mike Cox and Jinnie Edwards
