  • "We have stayed a few times now under different owners."

Mr Heath did correct the smell of dogs from last year and another nice week was enjoyed by us. Comfortable and relaxing in a nice area. My wife is partially sighted and the small tv is a problem even when I move the settee closer. I cannot read any text with normal eyesight unless I too sit nearer, this is the only drawback and it is a shame. Otherwise I fully recommend having stayed now about 10 times from when newly renovated.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to leave a review even after your 10th visit to Demonicus ! We have now supplied a larger TV in the cottage and we look forward to welcoming you again sometime soon Property Owner

  • "Great little cottage in the heart of Middleham (two doors down from the pub and 2 minutes walk to Middleham Castle!"

) Everything we needed for a week in the Dales. Stunning venue to watch the Racehorses each morning heading out to train on the nearby ‘Gollops’. Local well stocked shop open early and a lovely Fish and Chip shop which was open Weds - Saturday. Only negative was the stairs to the upper bedroom - very steep, but this is clearly stated upon booking, so can’t complain. Owners are contactable- so good for minor queries etc. Parking is a bit of a lottery as the square outside gets very busy, but by late evening we were usually able to park right outside the Cottage. Rear courtyard has little patio set and is part of a shared access to other properties, but this is Middleham and many of these hidden cottages are centuries old and we loved the hidden passages and historic quaint feel of the place. We’ll definitely go back to Middleham and would recommend Demonicus as a place to base yourself and explore The Yorkshire Dales.

Three lovely pubs, a chip shop and convenience store all within 100m of the cottage and lots of parking right at the front. The only thing missing is a washing machine but don't let that put you off as this place is a gem, with a lovely welcome pack as a nice suprise. Immaculately clean too, loved it.

Took our two small dogs and they loved it there, the courtyard isn’t fenced off from the surrounding properties but was no problem because they couldn’t get out onto the road as it had a gate there, they were so tired after our days out they slept all the time! Fantastic holiday was had by all .

  • "Our second visit to Demonicus and once again thank you for the generous welcome pack."

This is a lovely, comfortable clean house in a great location. There is everything that you need for a self catering holiday but also the local pubs are on the doorstep. Richard 111 serves very good food and The Dante Arms is a lovely quaint pub with very welcoming staff. They have a very good Thursday night pizza night. The fish and chip shop serves the best we have ever had and we always go there when we are in Middleham. There are plenty of nice walks in the area especially up to the gallops to see the racehorses. I can highly recommend staying in Demonicus.

The Fish and chip shop is one of the best we have been to (cash only) The Dante pub is very quaint and you are made very welcome (dog friendly) I would highly recommend staying at Demonicus.

  • "Property smelt badly of dogs, we would have taken room spray with us had we have known."

Had to open front and rear doors for half an hour to help get rid of smell. Took 3 days with room spray we bought to get rid of it. The T V is not up to standard as screen is too small. I have normal eyesight and I cannot read some of the text under the picture, and the screen, so we had to move the table and settee forward. There were big cobwebs on the ceiling outside the landing bedroom also.Otherwise O K. Also sound quality of T V varies needs a high definition set. We would stay again but hope for improvements!

Hello and thank you for taking the time to leave a review . We were sorry to hear that you felt the cottage smelt of dogs when you first arrived . This is the first time this has been raised by a guest and we normally receive 100% cleanlinesses ratings so we were disappointed to see that you found it below par . We have ensured the rug has been properly cleaned and disinfected and so hopefully this was a one off event . The TV is a new HD smart TV and the size was chooser specifically to compliment the cottage sitting room and not to be too overbearing. However we do understand that you might be used to a larger set at home . Best wishes . R Heath Property Owner

  • "Lovely house in a super location."

Close to Leyburn and Masham - it was the ideal base, with pubs and walks from the doorstep. Very well equipped house, it had everything we needed for our toddler. Small point but as it was winter, there was a bit of a draft from the front door so a throw on the sofas would have been good. Otherwise, the rest of the house was really warm and cosy.

No notification to tell us no signal for tv. As a company you managed to send details prior to holiday with key collection but could not notify us about the issues with tv signal which had been down for over 10 weeks. In cottage no info or instructions to tell us what to do or even that there was a problem. Spent 2 hours trying to make tv work and only when we went out for a walk that we were told by another holiday maker that there was a problem. Positives are cottage lovely, clean and very comfortable. First contact with Sykes about issue really lovely and passed issue on to member of customer care team who did not bother speaking to us personally but e mailed,we had phoned and left a contact number. Did not seem to realise that there was a issue or that the company had been inefficient and just passed the problem on to the owner who responded positively!

Very old and quirky but well renovated with all mod coms. Lots to do in the area, stunning scenery and very well supplied with pubs and hotels in the square. Loved seeing the racehorses going past every morning up to the gallops Not suitable really for people with mobility issues or very small children due to the steep stairs and the fact that the bedrooms are on seperate floors but otherwise would happily recommend it. We had a lovely holiday in spite of the weather being wet and cold.

About the location

Leyburn 2.5 miles; Richmond 12 miles.

The attractive Wensleydale town of Middleham is renowned for its history and race horses. Much of the history is bound up with its Norman castle, which dates from 1190 and has a castle keep second in size only to the Tower of London. The horses are a great sight as they make their way to the gallops every morning. The pretty market square is partially cobbled and offers a range of shops, pubs and places to eat. The bustling market town of Leyburn is just a short drive away offering a variety of great shops and pubs, or why not take some time to explore The Forbidden Corner, a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers and surprises set amidst 4 acres of grounds, providing a fun day out for all the family? All in all a superb base for exploring Wensleydale and all within easy driving distance of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and Heritage Coast.
