  • "We have rented several cottages in the last few months, visiting family in the area and this is the best by a country mile!"

Super clean, well-equipped, in a stunning location, it was perfect. As the weather was awful (snow, wind, lashing rain) we were super-grateful for the amazingly efficient central heating and the underfloor heating in the bathroom, so no cold toes! We will be back, but it is booking up fast, so we'll have to be quick! Julia the owner was fabulous, helpful and attentive to the small glitch we encountered (nothing to do with the property). A perfect place for walks or just watching the world go by.

No complaints at all. I have been very unhappy with Sykes and the booking process. I paid extra to be able to cancel free of charge. From the time of booking and date of stay my wife's mother died. Given that the main reason for the visit was to see her I tried to cancel. It transpired that the conditions of cancellation were strict and could only cancel if one of the party could not go. On contacting Sykes were told ‘nothing to do with us’ and advised to contact insurance company, which we did to no avail. All very unsatisfactory and website misleading. Will not be recommending or using the company again.

We have stayed in many cottages and this is certainly one of the best. Marske and Saltburn are lovely with friendly people and good range of local shops. Staithes is well worth a visit. I would highly recommend a stay at Smugglers, i think it would cater for most people whatever your needs. Never normally rebook the same venue as we like to see new places but we would like to return to Marske and Smugglers Cottage. 10/10.

Very clean & relatively spacious, with all the home comforts & facilities you need for a holiday. It is a short walk to the centre of Marske which has a fair selection for shopping & eating, with Redcar & Saltburn a short drive for more variety. The beach is great, with plenty of space for all - making for lovely evening walks: 45 mins to both Redcar or Saltburn. Many thanks for a great holiday in a lovely cottage.

You can walk for miles every day over the dunes or along the water's edge and if it is more sophistication you want make your way to Saltburn for Victorian splendour. The Zetland lifeboat museum in Redcar is well worth going to see as are the gardens and museum at Kirkleatham. All within a short drive. The cottage itself cannot be faulted. Clean, well equipped and comfortable. Many thanks to the owners.

The kitchen is extremely well equipped, the bathroom is its own little spa experience and the beds are comfy. Julia really does think of everything…there are even buckets and spades if you need them. Even throughout the Covid crisis I have felt safe at Smugglers. It is beyond clean and there’s plenty of hand sanitiser about. The little touches are so thoughtful...and it was fab being able watch Netflix if we wanted to (upstairs only). The bathroom is a little touch of luxury with a tub the size of a small swimming pool and ambient lighting options. There’s also very good internet connection if you need it. Great walks to Saltburn either on the beach or on the cliffs and lots of other walks and places to visit close by. I even saw a seal on the beach this year, such a treat.
