  • "I had a wonderful 5-day stay at Byre Cottage in North Yorkshire."

    The cottage is beautiful, cosy, and full of character, with a lovely fireplace that made the evenings especially relaxing and warm. The location is absolutely stunning, set between peaceful farmland and rolling hills, surrounded by nature and wildlife. Waking up to the fresh countryside air and quiet views each morning was truly refreshing. It’s the perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside. I would highly recommend Byre Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful and cosy getaway, and I would happily stay again

  • "This was a lovely cottage."

    Very clean. Well stocked with pots, pans, towels, toilet paper etc. The owners had clearly thought carefully about what a visitor may need during their stay here. I liked the provision of board games, books, plenty of firewood, my only slight niggle was the TV provided wasn't smart and didn't have an Hdmi cable so it wasn't possible to watch a streaming channel but not the end of the world. Definitely a place to stay if you want to get away from it all and have a quiet stay. We were left alone for our whole stay. We enjoyed our visit. Thank you.

  • "The Byre, is situated in an area of peace and quiet, surrounded by woodland and fields, plus a cute chicken, rabbits, guinea fowl,and hear owls at night."

    It's a spotless accommodation, with everything you may need, plus lots of hot water, and free logs which we were thankful for during our December visit. Central heating is good and allowed to alter if needed. It's a place in warmer months you could relax with lovely walks, a BBQ, as this facility is available on the patio. Owners left detailed information and believe, are very helpful. Fresh eggs can be obtained next door. Finally, it's situated for lovely countryside, and convenient for many interesting places. Also dogs would like the walks, but must stay on a lead outside the property. A very comfortable stay in many respects, including several good, efficient aids to keep property tidy which can be lacking in let's.

  • "This place is not to be missed, our second visit to The Byre and still so impressed with the quality of the cottage."

    The cleanliness is first class and all you need to do is turn up and put your feet up. The communication before,during and after the visit is amazing we really felt cared for. The team who run the place are amazing nothing is too much trouble they really do care about the visitors and are more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure your stay is the best possible experience. We will be of course looking forward to our next visit, would recommend highly.

  • "Was really lovely, had a nice relaxing week took the dogs with us and although we couldnt let them off lead immediatly outsidr the property, there was an area nearby where we could let them run around."

  • "I had a lovely stay at the Byre from arriving everything was spot-on."

    It was an ideal place to stay for access to the coast or National park. Great walks on the property itself and the wildlife just the other side of the window. Friendly host what not to like. Would love to visit again.

  • "The Byre is a lovely snug cottage."

    It has everything you need, a very comfy double bed and beautiful scenery for miles. There are guinea fowl, pheasants, chickens and wild rabbits running around outside your large double glazed front door, they are very entertaining but you need to keep your dog (if you take one like we did) on a lead constantly while outside. There are areas to let them off just down the path though. We would definitely go again, the owners are very friendly and helpful, although there is a full info pack inside the cottage with everything you need to know if they aren't around. We loved it.

  • "Kristen and Rosie were lovely neighbours The accommodation was beautiful."

    They had everything we needed for a full long weekend. The free range eggs was a lovely treat. But we personally think the guinea foul should really be fenced off like the chickens are so our dog could run freely and not be caged to the house. We had to harness our poodle up just to sit outside or go to the bin. So personally we didn’t think it was “dog friendly” Otherwise a lovely cottage.

  • "The Byre is in a lovely, quiet spot, with walks from the door and plenty of wildlife to see."

    The property is comfortable, warm and supplied with fuel for the log burner. Access to the coast, historical buildings, forest trails and other places of interest are all within reasonable travel times. The owners are very welcoming. If you want a break away from the hustle and bustle, the Byre is the place to stay!

  • "Just stayed at the byre for 3 days, we both loved the cottage!"

    . Great location for wildlife watching, managed to see a deer on two mornings whilst out walk the dog. Cottage is very clean, well maintained and well equipped. A great woodburner with plenty of free wood is such a nice gesture, as well as the complimentary free range eggs. There are numerous walks straight from the property. Watching the antics of the resident guinea fowl was very entertaining which and added to the relaxing nature of our stay. I'm just sorry that we couldn't stay longer.

  • "What a fantastic time we had at the Byre."

    An incredibly cosy place, Philip and Kirsten were so friendly. We wanted nice walks, and there were excellent, challenging walks from the doorstep. We could then come back to a cosy, warm, Byre to relax afterwards. Thank you for the log burner and lots of fuel. Excellent value for money, and having a dishwasher was such a treat. Thank you!

The Byre is a charming, single-storey cottage nestled in the heart of Great Broughton, North Yorkshire.

With convenient off-road parking, this delightful retreat is perfect for couples seeking a peaceful escape in a picturesque country setting.

Upon entering this abode, you will be greeted by a beautifully presented open-plan area, where you can unwind on the plush sofa and enjoy your favourite shows on the TV.

On chillier evenings, the woodburning stove provides a warm atmosphere, perfect for snuggling up with a good book.

The kitchen area is well-equipped with everything you need to prepare delicious meals, which can be enjoyed in the dining area.

Retire to the double bedroom after a long day of exploring the local area; this room boasts an en-suite with a walk-in shower, providing a private space to freshen up each morning.

Step outside to the non-enclosed front patio, where you can enjoy your morning coffee or dine alfresco on warmer days.

The patio furniture provides a relaxing spot to sit back and unwind, taking in the peaceful surroundings of Great Broughton.

Venture out of your peaceful haven to explore the local area, where you'll find the breathtaking Rievaulx Abbey, a former Cistercian monastery, steeped in history and set in a tranquil valley.

Spend an afternoon strolling through the romantic ruins, taking in the stunning architecture and absorbing the peaceful atmosphere.

A short distance away, you'll find the National Trust's Rievaulx Terrace, offering sweeping views across the Ryedale countryside and the abbey below.

The terrace is home to a pair of Grecian-style temples, adding an air of elegance to your scenic walk.

The Byre is a walker’s paradise, with 1100 miles of footpaths in the North York Moors National Park, two of which go through or next to the property.

Many of the walks are challenging, but there are also gentle walks around, including in our own 42 acres of hilly woodland and rough pasture.

The Coast to Coast Walk, the Cleveland Way, and the Lyke Wake Walk all pass along Hasty Bank just about half a mile above the property. There is also fantastic cycling in the area, although much but not all of it requires either strong legs or an e-bike.

After a day of exploring, return to the inviting comfort of The Byre, your home away from home in the heart of North Yorkshire.

STOKESLEY

Great Ayton 3 miles; Saltburn-by-the–Sea 14 miles.

Stokesley is an attractive, elegant, historic market town which was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, with many interesting Georgian and Victorian buildings. The River Leven flows through the town and is crossed by the ancient Pack Horse Bridge. Levenside provides visitors with a peaceful riverside walk, well planted with trees, as a contrast to the bustle of the High Street. The town has a distinguished wide cobbled main street lined with Georgian and Regency buildings. It is well served with shops, banks, public houses and restaurants and the weekly Friday markets are held on the main square. Just off the market square is the Church of St Peter & St Paul which has woodwork carved by the Mouseman of Kilburn. Surrounded by the Cleveland Hills and close to the northern edge of the North York Moors, Stokesley provides an ideal base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales, the heather clad North Yorkshire Moors and the pretty market towns of Great Ayton, Northallerton and Thirsk. The seaside spa resort of Saltburn is 30 mins drive away whilst Whitby, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay are within easy reach.
