• "Wow, thanks to Mark and Marion, for an amazing week, lovely cottage and great hosts, we will be back."

  From the moment we got there Mark was readily available to give us a tour, and Marion made rocky road for our cuppa, what a greeting. The cottage was set up with fresh milk, coffee and tea. Mark had even made a 3 hole pitch and putt in the lovely garden that was fun. Everything you could need was provided, and the outside seating was used daily. I have already told my family and friends about this and showed them the pictures. Wow they all said how gorgeous it looked. And it was. All the info you need was provided and the village of Sedgewick was lovely. I recommend the No4 Tea Shop, staff food service amazing. I would like to say a huge tja k you to Mark and Marion for a wondercul week and hope to see you both real soon, that is unless my family and friends book it first. Anyone needing a recommendation then please book this cottage, not far to beautiful Durham and surrounding areas. Quiet peaceful and comfortable. Julez McElnea

• "What a lovely homely cottage ,with everything you need."

  Owners Mark and Marion are very informative on things to do and see . Thank you both for telling us about Thornton Hall Gardens they were amazing ( only open 9 times a year). Even got games to play on the garden ( items in the garage). Lovely welcome pack , the homemade Rocky Road was amazing. Will definitely recommend you to family and friends. • "Property location was quiet and peaceful."

  Lots of birds to watch. Mark, the owner introduced hisself and was friendly and knowledgeable about the area. However I have to agree with a previous review regarding kitchen and bathroom needing an upgrade. It is also in need of a deep clean. There was lots of dust, hairs and fluff. More cobwebs than you would expect even in the countryside. On the plus side the bed linen and towels were pristine. With a little attention Morden Moor could be good value

  We ‘re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the peaceful location and surroundings as well as Mark’s warm welcome and local knowledge. It’s also great to know that the bed linen and towels met the high standards we aim for. Naturally we were very disappointed that the cottage wasn’t, in your opinion, to our usual 5* high standard of housekeeping, sadly despite meeting you several times during your stay you did not share any concerns with us - prior to your stay we had been on holiday and had entrusted cleaning to a contract cleaner - rest assured “ normal service” is now resumed and we look forward to welcoming new guests to Mordon Moor Cottage. • "This cottage is such a find."

  The cottage is small and compact, but beautifully formed. It has a really lovely big garden in quiet countryside. The owners are friendly and helpful and even set out putting and swing ball for our grandkids. If you want to chill and enjoy nature this is the place even though it is not far from supermarket, restaurants and takeaway. We have been three times now and just love being there.

• "Beautiful location and history behind teh building."

  Sadly we felt the property was 'tired' and could benefit from some updating. Whilst kitchen jas all the things you need(fridge/freezer/washer) it was very dark and tired in decor amd worktops

  Very clean and well maintained.Idealy placed close to the A1 giving access to many places including Beamish museum, Durham and seaside resorts. We would return to this cottage. [Unfortunately I was taken ill and had to leave early.]

• "…this has been our second stay, the cottage was spotlessly clean, beds were comfortable and the whole experience relaxing - all the family enjoyed the large enclosed lawn with putting green, swing ball and deck quoits for a lot of family fun in the most peaceful setting imaginable, yet close enough to the shops, pubs and restaurants within an easy 30 min walk or 5 minutes drive, brilliant, thank you !"

• "We had a great stay, the home was very clean inside and out."

  The garden very relaxing the remoteness was wonderful but everything you need is quite local via a short car ride. Mark is great chap, very accommodating he allowed the use of my lightweight drone, with a very positive attitude, and helpful as local guide. We were left alone but informed he was just a text or call away with any help if needed. I very much recommend Mordon Moor Cottage.

• "It is a great location especially being so near to the A1, we were able to easily get about."

  I can't think of any real criticism, owner was very understanding about our (unplanned) late arrival and wished us well on our journey home when we departed. The cottage itself is very well equipped and quiet. I am sure other guests would agree the silence is amazing at night when you get to bed. Would love to stay again.

• "We stayed 10 days at the cottage while visiting family in the area."

  The cottage was perfect for all our needs and had everything we could have required to make the stay perfect. My 2 year old daughter loved to play in the garden and with the location it was very safe for her to do so. We cant wait to visit again next time!

• "Lovely, comfortable cottage in a quiet location."

  The log burning stove with logs provided was very welcome to dry everything out after we got soaking wet playing golf! There were plenty of other heaters to keep the cottage warm overall and the cottage was very well equipped with everything you would need. Very friendly, helpful owner who was always on hand with any queries we had.

• "We enjoyed our stay at Mordon Moor Cottage."

  The owner Mark was there to welcome us and show us around the cottage when we arrived. It was equipped with everything we needed and will definitely return as there is so much to see and do in the area. The home made rocky road with a cup of tea was most welcome after our journey there.

• "This is a delightful cottage."

  Great location for exploring the coast and Co Durham. We used it as a base for attending a concert in Gateshead, a very straightforward journey. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well furnished, including plenty of kitchen equipment. Instructions for appliances were provided. Two very minor quibbles: clearer instructions for the storage heaters and two bedside lamps either side of the bed would have enhanced our stay even more. Appreciated being left milk, ground coffee and Rocky Road. We would definitely return.

• "A lovely country cottage nestled away in the countryside."

  The cottage has two lovely bedrooms well furnished and both beds were very comfortable. Although our stay was in November, the cottage was warm and welcoming with the extra benefit of a lovely log burner in the lounge. The kitchen has everything that you need including a washing machine, a fridge, a freezer and a large microwave oven. The TV is a smart TV so we could use netflix and prime. There is a good selection of books and DVDs provided. We would certainly recommend this property and will be returning.

• "A delightful clean and spacious cottage in a fantastic location!"

  After spending the day in Richmond we arrived at the cottage to be greeted by Mark who had left some home made treats for us along with provisions for making drinks, Yorkshire teabags, along with filter coffee, instant coffee, sugar and milk. The cottage is well equipped should you fancy cooking a meal and the town centre is close by to go and stock up on any essential items you need for your stay and a large Sainsbury’s is a short drive away. There is enough storage for belongings and a garage to store any bikes you may bring. The large garden provided the evening’s entertainment, sitting with a drink or two whilst my son played football until the sun went down. The lounge is cosy and the TV of a good size, although with the fantastic weather we had we didn’t do much viewing as there is an endless list of places to go and activities to partake in, all less than an hours drive. If you do have any problems Mark and his delightful wife are both on hand to assist and are also very knowledgeable in the local area and places of interest. Will be recommending Mordon Moor Cottage to friends and family and would definitely return!

• "We have just enjoyed a fantastic break staying at Mordon Moor, it was spotlessly clean when we arrived, the cottage was a bit like the Tardis, far more space inside than the pictures suggest."

  To enjoy the very nice pubs on the evening and to have a glass of wine or two, we chose to walk in to Sedgefield which took only 20 mins !! The facilities provided were everything we hoped for, the bed was supremely comfortable, the towels were fluffy and , although not required, the owners were next door.The cottage was in a very peaceful place , a haven in the countryside; we will certainly aim to visit again and spend more time in this area, Thank you to the owners !

• "Travelling a lot with work I have stayed in lots of accommodation and this cottage is definitely one of the best."

  It is in a beautiful rural location, but close enough to Sedgefield for shopping, restaurants and pubs. I am a keen cyclist and runner. There are many good routes around the area which I took advantage of, the accommodation also had the added benefit of a lockable bicycle storage area which was ideal. The accommodation is spotless and very comfortable. The bed was amazingly comfortable. It was very well equipped. The owners were close by who were very hospitable with nothing being too much trouble. I would highly recommend this cottage and if the opportunity arises I will certainly be booking again in the future.
