  • "Great place to stay."

Cottage perfect. Central gas heating is excellent. Only drawback (as with anywhere in the bay) is the parking and carrying luggage to property. Although this cottage is fairly close to the road. We will be back with dog next time.

  • "Lovely little cottage!"

Small but pretty much enough size for overall comfort whilst away from your own home. I’d advise on the old school house for parking as the other car parks are a fair walk and with bags that isn’t a whole lot of fun! The pillows were awful lots of previous reviews say the same too. Location perfect for cafes and restaurants and of course the sea

We used Delft as a base for our walk to and from Whitby and couldn't have been more pleased. Ideally situated. To locate Delft a little more accurately, I'd add to Sykes directions.....go left, left again, and left once more ...or have yourselves a bit of fun like the smugglers used to ..

What lovely feedback. Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Not for us."

The pictures of this cottage don’t quite reflect reality as they make it look brighter, bigger and sunnier than it is. The cottage does not get the sun and is therefore quite dark. We found that many of the things in the cottage (eg. the clock, lamps, dustbin, towels, some of the bedroom furniture) appeared to be cheap and neither good quality nor reflective of the style of the cottage. The sash window in the main bedroom doesn’t stay open and I had to use some books to prop it open. We were left the absolute minimum amount of hand soap and toilet rolls in the bathroom and had to go out and buy more of each. It just didn’t seem good value for money and, given the size, it would be very optimistic to suggest that 4 people could be comfortable there. There are better properties in the bay for less money - they just weren’t available at the time. On the plus side, the beds were very comfortable and we slept well. The sofa was comfortable, the little kitchen area was quite nice and well stocked and there are a couple of lovely chairs in the bedrooms. We had lovely neighbours who we enjoyed chatting with, Robin Hood’s Bay was fantastic and we did have a good time despite being a little disappointed in the cottage.

Thank you for your feedback. Your comments are very important to us. As a bit of background Delft was built in the 1600s and is typical of the properties in Lower Robin Hood's Bay. A 5-minute walk from the beach Delft is an old fisherman's terraced cottage and is a grade 2 listed building. The photos do show the size of the cottage as accurately as we can and we do explain in the property description about the type of property it is. We pride ourselves on the cottage standard and our feedback is usually excellent. We do buy good quality items to furnish the house and ones that are in keeping with the date and style of the property. A welcome pack is left for each guest however as with all holiday lets this is designed as a starter pack. Please note that when items run out guests do need to replace these . We provide our contact details in the guest information book and encourage guests to contact us with any issues during their stay. We were not aware of the problem you experienced with the sash window and have since spoken to a local joiner to see if we can tighten the sash cords for us. Once again, thank you for your comments. The owners have made the most of the small space and there is everything you need. It’s in a great location. The second bedroom has very limited headroom over one of the beds so I wouldn’t book this cottage for four adults.

Thank you for your feedback Kate. The top twin bedroom is in the eves of the roof and slopes down slightly over the headboard of one of the beds. This room is ideally suited to children and small adults. Property Owner

  • "The Cottage is very central to the village and a good location."

The day we got to the cottage there was a lot of road works in the village therefore we were not able to take the car anywhere near the property to unload. We could have been warned of this but we were not. Instructions on how to find the actual cottage were minimal and we had to ask people as they were walking up the hill. A little map might have helped immensely. The key was in the key safe as informed and was easy to access. There was no permit and bringing down cases for three people and a dog was tough. The cottage was very small but photographed very well in the advert as it was made to look much bigger than it is. It looked much brighter on the photos it’s quite dingy and tired in the front room. Sunny cottage it is not ! It felt tired and in need of a bit of TLC. The kitchen is well equipped and everything worked well. Two tea towels provided. Cloth for the washing up and washing liquid. The double bed room was pleasant but the bed is very small for two fully grown adults. Comfortable mattress with topper on the bed but still not one night of decent sleep as unable to move without disturbing one another. Stools on either side of bed were useless and had lamps on them. Small wall lights would have made better use of the space and a bigger bed, normal sized would have been so much better. We came home a night earlier just to get in our own bed. The bathroom was extremely small. But I guess we can accept that, as it won’t have been something originally in the cottage! but as soon as the door is opened a person struggles to get around it to get into the room without falling over the loo or manoeuvring around the sink. This is doable. The shower is easy to work out and hot . But there was only one bath towel each. No hand towels each. For a week with no washing machine that was insufficient. I had to go out to Sainsburies and buy more towels halfway through the week ! I would just have brought more towels from home if we were warned to do so ! It would have been fine ! But we were just caught unaware as the cottage was said to be equipped. The top bed room is lovely but probably to small for two people. Great for children I expect not adults. We were one other adult my daughter and she was fine but maybe a statement on the advertisement saying small and room suited to children would help the guest make an informed choice. The winding pathways past the property are wonderful and enchanting, giving a real sense of years gone by. Lovely week had despite unpredictable weather. We tried to drink clothes for any eventuality I guess which made us a little more burdened but it was fine. We felt we had certainly exercised by the end of our stay.

Thank you for your feedback. Your comments are important to us. We were unaware of any roadworks during the time of your stay. If we had we known we would of course given you advance warning. There are three car parks in Robin Hood's Bay including the FisherHead Car Park which is a couple of minutes walk from the cottage. Delft is tucked away down a narrow cobbled street 5 minutes from the beach. It sits between a terrace of 1600s cottages most of which including Delft are Grade 2 listed. Each year we have the outside of the cottage painted and every month we are either repainting one of the rooms or replacing items in the cottage. We take on board your comments regarding the towels and now make sure extra towels are left for longer stays. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed in many lovely cottages in Robin Hoods Bay but this is not one of them."

There is a space for a full size fridge but the actual fridge is tiny and was not working properly. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the house was not clean. Robin Hoods Bay is a beautiful place but we would recommend that you stay somewhere else.

Thank you for your feedback. Your comments are important to us. At Delft we have an undercounter fridge freezer pictures of which are available and included with the property description. There is a shop in lower Robin Hoods Bay. A two minute walk from the cottage and open seven days a week the shop keeps a good selection of essential items and there are a number of 'eat out' options on your doorstep. Delft is typical of the fishermans cottages in Lower Robin Hood's Bay. The living space is smaller than the average home and designed accordingly. We would always recommend guests pack a small amount of food as needed for the first night and then decide how to cater for the rest of their stay. There is a big Sainsbury's and Aldi in Whitby a 5 minutes drive away. Beds are unfortunately personal preference and I'm sorry that they were not to your liking. Previous guests have been very happy with them. . Thank you very much for taking the time to feedback. Property Owner

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at Delft Cottage."

A beautiful, warm cosy place tucked away in the cobbled streets of the village. The cottage had everything you could ask for, and only a 5 minute walk to the beach, 2 mins to shops and cafes. I think the living and shower room spaces would be challenging with 4 adults in the house, but fine for 2 adults and 1 or 2 young children. There was the occasional noise from next door but nothing that impinged on our enjoyment or privacy inside of the cottage, and these dwellings were originally designed to be up close and personal to promote close community amongst the fishworking families. A thoroughly relaxing stay sadly cut short due to work commitments and storm Eunice. We will be back.

Thank you so much for your comments we are very glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

There is a damp smell on entry and first impressions are not good. The photos give an impression of a sunny cottage but you no sun light inside. The only view is dustbins and a stone wall . You can hear the people in the cottage next door particularly in the bedroom talking and snoring .you need your slippers as the floors are cold.. You need to be very agile and fit as the unloading is a nightmare.

The cottage was very cute and quaint the top floor bedroom is minuscule and probably would be less comfortable for adults my almost fully grown teenagers managed ok but there is little space to store your belongings, both my kids kept all their packing in their bags. The living space is cosy and at a squeeze we could all just about get on the sofa but none of us is huge so again 4 grown adults might struggle (there is a wicker chair and kitchen chairs that could be used. There was plenty of kitchen equipment available, only two side plates for four of us and a mixture of non matching glasses. All the basics were there for cleaning and washing up plus tin foil and cling which was handy! The cottage was clean and in a lovely part of Robin Hoods bay!

Delft cottage is well located, well presented and very comfortable, when booking cottages in the Bay you must consider that most were built around four hundred years ago. In the main they are not large properties with high ceilings, if that doesn't bother you then the Bay holiday may be just right for you. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and will return next year, the good news for dog owners is that the bulk of cafes, pubs and tourist locations allow access with dogs. The open fire in the Laurel pub is most welcoming on a cold snowy evening!
