“Mayville House is an excellent base for exploring Scarborough and the surrounding area.”

There was plenty of room for two families with four teens between us. The house was clean, tastefully furnished and well laid out. It was good to have enough space for everyone in the living room and dining room (should we so desire) and bathrooms on every floor (excluding the very top floor). The house is very well equipped with everything you might need, and more than enough crockery and cutlery to accommodate 8 of us. Our only criticism, as with most holiday accommodation, is that the kitchen knives were blunt and therefore pretty useless, but since we did little cooking it wasn’t too much of a problem. Although parking initially seemed difficult, it was actually very easy to do with the tickets left by the owner. With the town, beach and castle only a short walk away, we didn’t use the car at all on several days. There was confusion about how to obtain the keys which were not in the safe when we arrived so we had to call the key holder, who very helpfully met us at the property. These instructions need to be made clearer. If you’re looking for a peaceful location in the best part of town, this property probably isn’t for you, but if you’re after large accommodation in a really convenient location for the town and beaches, then Mayville fits the bill perfectly.

Retaining original features, including ornamental fireplaces and large impressive bay windows overlooking the street below, there is a generously-sized sitting room on the first floor with comfortable seating for 12, high ceilings and a large TV.

With a separate dining room, there is plenty of space for entertaining in style, and the modern, well-equipped kitchen has a range electric cooker and breakfast area.

The five bedrooms are set over the top three floors, with two on the top floor, whilst the contemporary bathrooms are fully tiled, with one boasting a lovely Jacuzzi bath.

There are pubs, restaurants, shops and cafes all within two minutes’ walk from the property, whilst the beach is an easy fifteen minute walk through the old town.

On the seafront, there are amusements, seafood stalls and a long promenade, where you can enjoy a walk to North Bay, watching the nesting sea birds on the high cliffs with the majestic castle above.

There are colourful gardens in Peasholm Park, which hosts a wonderful open air theatre, whilst the old Spa Theatre puts on a variety of summer shows.

The beautiful surrounding countryside and moors are well worth exploring, with plenty of walking opportunities and pretty coastal and inland villages to visit, including Robin Hood's Bay, Pickering and Flamborough Head.
