Was lovely to wake up and hear the ducks quacking in the morning! Lots of places nearby to visit such as York, Hull, Whitby and Scarborough with some hidden local gems along the way. Hot tub facilities were lovely and very nice and private back area. Owners welcoming and lovely. Hut itself was super clean and cute with lovely features and decor. Well stocked kitchen appliances and utensils. Only niggle would be for some larger bath towels but other than that is the perfect retreat! Also just to be aware the driveway is quite narrow, most cars will fit completely fine but may not be suitable for wide cars and 4x4s.

From the moment I pulled up at the property I was greeted by the owner and she explained how to contact her should I need to and if I had any issues or queries to let her know. The hut is lovely, modern yet rustic and very well kept. The hut was in an immaculate state with plenty of equipment to cook with and glasses etc to feel at home. The log burner is brilliant and I spent most of the time with a log or two crackling away as I sat and chilled. The hot tub was a welcome addition to the property. Very secret around the back so no-one can overlook you. My only feedback would be if the cottage had a coffee/ Nespresso machine. I took my own as I enjoy coffee, and if there was a little machine in the kitchen it would have made the place 11/10 :)

The Peacock pub was closed, during the week, the Coachman wasn’t too far but food was average and the place looking a little tired. Definitely go for food at the Buck Inn in Thornton-le-Dale. Back to the Brae, it’s so quaint, well kept with a hot water outdoor shower to use before and after the hot tub. The ducks were good company and funny to watch and we were blessed with lovely weather day 2, 3 and 4. Visit Castle Howard if you’ve not been before and Dalby Forest! The only downsides were the road noise (which you soon forget) and a very tight driveway, definitely come in from the East to swing up the drive on your right, especially if you have low profiles!!!

Thank you for your feedback and we are very disappointed you did not enjoy your stay at our Shepherds Hut, we aim to please every guest and we pride ourselves on cleanliness and comfort as seen in previous guest reviews. Had we have been made aware of any shortfalls upon your arrival then they would have been rectified immediately and without question. The Brae is located in a secluded spot on the periphery of the village and so we do have neighbours and on occasions including New Year, as is the case on your visit, it would not be unreasonable to expect to be able to hear their celebrations. Regarding the bedding, this is highly unusual and we can assure guests that all linen is laundered between guests and we have recently replaced bedding after your visit. Sykes Cottages have a dedicated helpline for guests staying in a property and we do also leave our owner contact number in the property welcome pack and would have assisted immediately if you had called us. Super private up at the back end of the owners garden, and it has views over the countryside as it’s at the top of a little hill too. I can really see that the owners have paid attention to previous feedback and reviews- adding things like real glasses (for when not using the hot tub) and sun loungers when previous reviews have mentioned they would be a good thing to add. The owners were friendly and helpful, but left us to our own devices once they showed us around. The hot tub was lovely, and when we turned all the lights off the clouds let us do a little star gazing in the warmth of the tub too! I do have to reiterate the advice of previous reviewers though- it’s a bit of a squeeze up the driveway- but doable. The owners have large cars up there, and there is somewhere to turn around at the top, but it takes a bit of confidence / knowing your car! Location wise it’s a really good base to go to the east coast where there are good footpaths all the way along the coast. We parked in Scarborough, trained to Filey and then walked back. It’s a lovely place and we’ll definitely stay again!

  • "Our holiday to North Yorkshire was a very pleasant experience."

From The Brae, which was a little rustic gem to the surrounding towns and villages that we visited. We arrived to see our beautifully crafted Shepherds hut nestled in its own paddock, over looking The Vale of Pickering, gorgeous. We had a lovely week exploring the North Yorkshire coast and countryside. Steam train rides, beach walks, village markets, all a short drive, from our holiday idle. Would definitely go again and recommend it to all our family and friends.

We were wowed by the facilities inside the shepherds hut. Everything from sauces, tin foil, bags for life shopping bags was thought of. So there’s no need to pack those little essentials. We were so comfortable throughout our 4 night stay. Loved the hot tub and our welcome bottle of fizz and eggs. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to holiday in the local area.

  • "The Brae is a beautiful handcrafted Shepherd's Hut with bags of character and all the comforts of home."

We had a wonderful long weekend in sunny Snainton and wanted for nothing while staying at The Brae! Owners Paula, Martyn and Katy are really friendly and provided free range eggs and prosecco in the fridge for our arrival, which was a lovely touch. The hot tub is AMAZING and kept in a nice secluded garden to the rear of the hut. To the front, you have a lawned garden and some amazing views over the Yorkshire hills. It's a short drive (around 10 mins) to Scarborough and about 40 mins to Whitby, so it's nice and accessible. We have already recommended The Brae to family and friends and are hoping to make another visit in Autumn, as I think it will be the cosiest place when there's a little chill in the air. We will 100% be back :)
