"Lovely little cottage."
Very warm & cosy and the log burner was a lovely addition. Beds very comfortable and the cottage was very clean. Short walk to the local pub The Coachman. Prices very reasonable. Hot tub was great and warmed ready for use on upon arrival. Overall a lovely cottage to chill out for a weekend. Thank you

"The cottage is old and full of character however there are damp issues with the kitchen cupboards we had to wash all the plates before use as the damp smell was very strong."
The second smaller bedroom the mattress is awful, very uncomfortable . We ended up three of us in the main bedroom with one of us on the floor as this bed was so uncomfortable.. the location is good for exploring but we wouldn’t stay again.
The mattress in the small bedroom has now been replaced and we have a builder organised to fit air bricks in the kitchen wall which should resolve the damp issue behind the kitchen cabinet. Property Owner

"Lovely cosy cottage, very clean and comfy."
However I was disappointed to find that such good quality pillows had no protectors on them. Showering was also an issue, I tried using both shower heads but encountered the same problem with having to clear up a pool of water from floor. Whilst the bathroom is lovely it was not very serviceable due to the issue.
We use machine washable pillows eliminating the need for protectors.
The shower handsets have now been replaced with a fixed shower head which seems to have resolved the problem of the wet floor. Property Owner

"We enjoyed our stay and base for the week."
The hot tub was great even in the rain! Local pub the Peacock was very welcoming and Coachman served great food. Only drawbacks were extremely noisy and very busy main road outside the property, leaking bathroom window when it rains, leaking shower that drips over the floor making a puddle of water, and very tight parking space if you have a large car.
The roof above the bathroom window has now been repaired hopefully no more leaks.
We have replaced the shower handset with a fixed shower head which appears to have resolved the issue of water getting on the bathroom floor.
The allocated parking space is 2.75m x 6m (9ft x 20ft) if your vehicle is too large for this space there is ample on road parking directly outside the property or alternatively on one of the side streets, you can normally find safe parking outside the village hall approx 100 meters down the road. The facilities were just right and the hot tub was perfect. A great location, not too far from the coast but in a quiet, peaceful and verdant village. The master bed is huge and very comfortable. The only criticism is that the mattress in the second bedroom wasn’t as comfortable but overall a great place to stay and we would highly recommend.
Thank you for visiting. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay.! Property Owner

"No allocated parking - and directly on a very busy main road."
Interior was clean but the bathroom needs altering. The bath is mounted on a tiled plinth and as its a roll top version, so it is very high of the floor - making getting in and for a shower or bath out very difficult. There are no handles or anything to hold onto when getting in or out in a confined space. I would even class it as quite dangerous for anyone with mobility issues.
Bathroom mobility aids IE bath stool, repositionable grab handles and non slip bath mat are provided at this property. These are located in the bathroom cupboard and available for use as required for guest own personal mobility needs.
20/06/23 this property now has an allocated off road parking space. Property Owner

The owners were very helpful and we had a fantastic break. The only slight negatives ( and they were slight and did not deter from our enjoyment) were the road noise and the lack of a local shop.

"On arrival we were disappointed to find that the cottage is on a busy A road into Scarborough."
The noise of traffic, which included large lorries and cars whizzing past at speed (supposedly on a 30mph road) was relentless, even in the early hours. I really struggled to sleep. Because the weather was hot we needed the windows open slightly, but even with them closed it w2as noisy. Unfortunately, it did not lend to a relaxing peaceful stay. If I had known about this I would not have booked this particular cottage! There is also no parking, and had to park at the local village hall down the road. The property is quite overlooked by the next door neighbour (who luckily seemed to be away while we were there), so the hot tub is not very private. The only view is a stone wall and neighbours gardens. It was also a little inconvenient having to walk wet through the house to go to toilet upstairs. The bathroom looked lovely, but was not really user friendly, especially if youre not very tall or have mobility problems, as it was very high to climb into the shower. Sorry to be so negative, but we were quite disappointed with the noisy location. TBH we were glad to get back home to our peaceful home, and am looking forward to a good night's sleep and to hear the birds singing in the morning!
So sorry to hear you were disappointed to find the cottage located on an A road. However the cottages exact position is indicated on a large map on our web site. We are justifiably surprised to hear off road parking, views secluded garden and ground floor/outdoor toilet were expected even though these were not featured on our website. The Victorian roll top bath which caused an issue during your stay is clearly shown in our photographs. We have taken great care to provide an informative and genuine description of the property and it's facilities and endeavor to fulfill all of our guests expectations, however in order to prevent disappointment such as this it is imperative guests read and understand the property description before selecting the most suitable for their personal needs. Sykes Cottages are available and keen to help in enquiries regarding specific features of all there properties, should you have specific requirements which are not clear on our website.
On road parking is available, as described on our website, directly outside the property, however, for the safety of guests vehicles we recommend unloading next to the cottage then parking on one of the less busy side streets. And please be respectful if refused permission to park on our neighbours private parking spaces. Property Owner

"We had a lovely stay at The Hideaway with 2 small children."
Quiet, comfortable and cosy cottage with good facilities overall. Hot tub was nice and private (shame we didnt get to make the most of it with kids). Lovely stay would visit again.
A Few feedback points would be parking situation on an A road is not ideal with children as busy during the day. WiFi situation could be improved as very weak signal upstairs. Maybe some daily amenities would be helpful - tea bags, dishwasher tabs etc.
Paula was welcoming overall and available if needed.

"The location of the cottage is ideal for exploring the east coast of Yorkshire and beyond."
The Hot Tub was an amazing way to relax at the end of the day. The only issue is the bath/Shower is not ideal for stepping in and out off especially for a less mobile person. The facilities are good enough to feel as though you have a home tucked away in a Yorkshire village.I would recommend the Hideaway for a perfect break either to use as a base for exploring the surrounding area or for a relaxing break in the cottage.

The addition of the hot tub was an added bonus. On a minor note, on arrival at the cottage we found that there was no toilet roll and the closest shop was 4 miles away. This impacted on our plans for the rest of the evening (we have a 1 year old who had to be back for bed time)

"The cottage was very clean and warm on arrival which was lovely."
The hot tub was great and we made good use of it over our 2 day stay. Unfortunately, the master bedroom is in real need of a new mattress. The huge dip in the middle makes it very uncomfortable when 2 people are sleeping in the bed. It would have also been good if we could have logged into our Prime account on the TV to stream a film in the evening but unfortunately the WiFi settings in the cottage do not allow for any streaming which was a real shame.
Thank you for your feedback and we are very disappointed you had issues during your stay at our cottage. We aim to please every guest and pride ourselves for cleanliness, comfort and the facilities we provide.
The Cottage is equipped with smart tv's in the living room and master bedroom and have multiple platforms, including Prime and Netflix, in order for our guests to log in to their own account and stream movies of their choice.
After you left it was clear to see that the bed frame in the master bedroom had completely collapsed during your stay, this has now been repaired and reinforced. Had we have been informed of this during your stay it could have been repaired with little or no impact on your enjoyment of the cottage.
