  • "We had a 2 night stay in this gorgeous property and it definitely lived up to expectations."

There was four of us and there was plenty of room without feeling cramped. The kitchen/dining area is perfect size to chill out and all relax together so much so we barely used the living room. Everything that would we need was provided and the property was clean. The host had included small details including games and a lot of information of attractions in the local area. Although it is on a main road, we barely noticed passing cars. The only downfall is the lack of amenities in the area due to it being a small village and having specific opening times but we were aware of this at the time of the booking. Scarborough isn't too far a drive and there's plenty of lovely places to eat out and things to do. We didn't have any issues during our stay and was just what we needed for a relaxing break away. Just disappointed we didn't book for longer! Definitely recommend and hope to book again in the future Thank you very much!xx

Very clean aswell! In a great location too. It is very noisy with the road, the boiler also makes a lot of noise at night. The bath is very high and hard to get into however the actual shower is very good and powerful! Would recommend getting a privacy screen near the hot tub it felt very exposed to next-door. But overall very nice cottage we had a lovely stay thank you!

Hot tub was great. Only down side was the lack of added extras. There were tea, coffee and sugar jars, with residue of existing tea and coffee. I assume this means they hadn't been topped up for our stay. Seems minor, but when going away for only 2 nights we didn't think to bring it with us as everywhere we have stayed previous has provided tea, coffee etc. We had a lovely stay, it just felt we paid for the building, nothing more, nothing less. We are used to a little welcome pack? A little milk in the fridge? Maybe some shower soap facilities? Unfortunately, we feel we got the bare minimum. Apart from that the cottage was nice and cosy.

Great location not far from either Scarborough or Whitby. Had all essentials needed like tin foil, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc meaning you didn’t have to go out and buy anything. Lovely added extra of the hot tub which we all enjoyed several times during the stay. The only negative I have is the parking is down a very narrow alley up a hill. Not the easiest to park but we managed. Would definitely recommend

  • "Great 2 night breakaway."

House was easy to find and was more spacious than expected. Hot tub was great! We enjoyed our stay and used it as a base for visiting Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby (40min drive) and Filey (25min drive) Only downsides: *Parking: very tight turning up the driveway! Apparently can park up the road if cant get into parking space though..although not ideal! *Main bedroom very bright in the morning! Would benefit from black out curtains! Only 1 window has curtains, other window office style blinds.. light flooding in! Is on a busy road. The noise didnt bother me although my partner did complain it was too noisy for him.

Thank you for your feedback and in order to increase guests options we will fit curtains to the smaller window in the front bedroom asap. If you prefer a darker / quieter room we recommend using the back bedroom which is away from the traffic and has fewer smaller windows which are less effected by external lighting. On street parking is available directly outside the cottage with an option to use the secure parking space to the rear of the property. Property Owner

Had a conversation with a lovely neighbour and except the very busy main road (Which cant be helped) was a very quiet area. Hot tub was nice and warm and was really relaxing. Only comment i would make for the owners is if it had been 2 couples staying the Bathroom door currently does not close and lock. This was not a problem for us as it was just the two of us staying there.

  • "The cottage is really lovely and cosy, and hot tub/garden is great!"

We had issues with plumbing in the bathroom (sink taps - hot tap very noisy and cold tap sometimes didn't work). There was also a leak on the radiator in the back bedroom which resulted in a wet carpet but this was sorted out by the owner the same day. The only feedback I would have is that there were only three wine glasses and three prosecco glasses (not matching) which was slightly problematic when there were four adults staying there!! There were also only two glass tumblers which was disappointing. I found it slightly odd that bath/hand towels were supplied but no tea towel in the kitchen - I did see the note saying to bring a tea towel at the bottom of the email, but I just don't see why it could be provided when everything else is?! Overall it was a great cottage in a great location and would stay again if I wanted to visit the area - would make sure I brought some glasses with me though! Thanks for a lovely stay

Sorry you felt disappointed with the facilities during your stay at our cottage. However with regard to prosecco glasses there was an unopened box of four matching glasses in the kitchen base unit along with a box of six matching glass tumblers, there are also further supplies of glasses in the outbuilding! There are plenty of acrylic glasses in the cupboard which we recommend for use on the patio and in the hot tub. I don't know who Emailed you to tell you to bring your own tea towels? it certainly did not come from your host as we do provide them, on this occasion it may not have been in a prominent position as it usually is, but there was one in the kitchen drawer under the barbecue tools. And further supplies in the outbuilding. During your stay you reported a water leak, which despite being on a family day out, we responded to within two hours. On inspection there was clearly a lot of water on the bedroom floor however no leak was found and because it was clean water I doubt it came from the radiator as you suggest. Since your departure the water has dried up and remained dry. We have lubricated the noisy hot tap and is now operating silently. The cold tap appears to be working fine, I can only suggest the downstairs taps were being used at the same time reducing the flow upstairs which is perfectly normal. Our contact details are in the property welcome pack and would have assisted in locating glasses and a tea towel, without question, as we did with your queries regarding operating the thermostat and water leak, if you had communicated that to us. We are committed to making our guests holiday as enjoyable as possible (as per our previous guest comments) but we can't do anything after you have left. We are very disappointed that on this occasion you did not give us the opportunity to help during your stay. Property Owner

The cottage is lovely - fitted out with good quality furnishings and is spacious the garden and hot tub are magnificent i doubt we'd return tho as we found off-putting: half a fire lighter no kindling even tho it says all fuel and power included no sugar no coffee no welcome bottle of milk 2 dishwasher tablets worn out sponge for washing up no foil, etc in others words remember to bring everything we were warned in other reviews about this parsimony but regretfully ignored that info

Thank you for your feedback we take on board your comments and have now requested Sykes to edit our property description, with regard to fuel, to read "fuel and power included and starter pack for the wood burning stove with additional logs available to purchase on site". Hopefully this will resolve any ambiguity. The starter pack comprises of a made up fire (with a fire lighter, kindling and a log) ready for you to light on your arrival and approx 4KG of additional logs. May I also apologise for the cleaning cupboard not being restocked for your visit. Had you have made us aware of this shortfall when we spoke during your stay we would have been more than willing to provide more dishwasher tablets and a new sponge. Being a self catering accommodation we do not provide any food or beverages so please do remember to bring your own. Lush location. Hot tub was fabulous added extra. Had a lovely time celebrating my birthday and valentines. Only downside was the dog poo all over the lane on the way to the parking spot. Difficult to avoid with a child and had to drive over to get out. Had been picked up later but with a small child we were up and out early. Would return and can’t fault the actual cottage

We are very pleased to hear you had an enjoyable stay despite the dog poo on the public footpaths around the property. I do routinely clean this up myself when spotted, unfortunately I spent most of your stay in A&E, however, as you noticed, I did clean it up immediately upon my return. Negating any further trips to hospital I will endeavour to keep the footpaths as poop free as possible should you choose to return Property Owner

We got photos sent to us, of a fly squatter not in the cupboard, the ironing board left out, and a hoola hoop on the floor. Absolute ludicrous esp when we had been so laid back about the bath leaking through through the roof. If you are prepared to deep clean the property upon leaving, then I'd highly recommend as its a cosy cottage in a lovely village, hottub is brilliant and you are only half an hours drive to Scarborough. We had a lovely stay with our children until we got a phonecall and email with the above information in it. We personally won't be back due to this reason only

We put candles in the snow and had a very romantic and beautiful setting in a warm and clean hot tub. The Peacock, a local pub just short stroll away, was very friendly with a lovely landlady and another warm fire and a good choice of drinks too. The hot tub was great even in the rain! Local pub the Peacock was very welcoming and Coachman served great food. Only drawbacks were extremely noisy and very busy main road outside the property, leaking bathroom window when it rains, leaking shower that drips over the floor making a puddle of water, and very tight parking space if you have a large car.

The roof above the bathroom window has now been repaired hopefully no more leaks. We have replaced the shower handset with a fixed shower head which appears to have resolved the issue of water getting on the bathroom floor. The allocated parking space is 2.75m x 6m (9ft x 20ft) if your vehicle is too large for this space there is ample on road parking directly outside the property or alternatively on one of the side streets, you can normally find safe parking outside the village hall approx 100 meters down the road. Interior was clean but the bathroom needs altering. The bath is mounted on a tiled plinth and as its a roll top version, so it is very high of the floor - making getting in and for a shower or bath out very difficult. There are no handles or anything to hold onto when getting in or out in a confined space. I would even class it as quite dangerous for anyone with mobility issues.

Bathroom mobility aids IE bath stool, repositionable grab handles and non slip bath mat are provided at this property. These are located in the bathroom cupboard and available for use as required for guest own personal mobility needs. 20/06/23 this property now has an allocated off road parking space. Property Owner

The noise of traffic, which included large lorries and cars whizzing past at speed (supposedly on a 30mph road) was relentless, even in the early hours. I really struggled to sleep. Because the weather was hot we needed the windows open slightly, but even with them closed it w2as noisy. Unfortunately, it did not lend to a relaxing peaceful stay. If I had known about this I would not have booked this particular cottage! There is also no parking, and had to park at the local village hall down the road. The property is quite overlooked by the next door neighbour (who luckily seemed to be away while we were there), so the hot tub is not very private. The only view is a stone wall and neighbours gardens. It was also a little inconvenient having to walk wet through the house to go to toilet upstairs. The bathroom looked lovely, but was not really user friendly, especially if youre not very tall or have mobility problems, as it was very high to climb into the shower. Sorry to be so negative, but we were quite disappointed with the noisy location. TBH we were glad to get back home to our peaceful home, and am looking forward to a good night's sleep and to hear the birds singing in the morning!

So sorry to hear you were disappointed to find the cottage located on an A road. However the cottages exact position is indicated on a large map on our web site. We are justifiably surprised to hear off road parking, views secluded garden and ground floor/outdoor toilet were expected even though these were not featured on our website. The Victorian roll top bath which caused an issue during your stay is clearly shown in our photographs. We have taken great care to provide an informative and genuine description of the property and it's facilities and endeavor to fulfill all of our guests expectations, however in order to prevent disappointment such as this it is imperative guests read and understand the property description before selecting the most suitable for their personal needs. Sykes Cottages are available and keen to help in enquiries regarding specific features of all there properties, should you have specific requirements which are not clear on our website. On road parking is available, as described on our website, directly outside the property, however, for the safety of guests vehicles we recommend unloading next to the cottage then parking on one of the less busy side streets. We aim to please every guest and pride ourselves for cleanliness, comfort and the facilities we provide. The Cottage is equipped with smart tv's in the living room and master bedroom and have multiple platforms, including Prime and Netflix, in order for our guests to log in to their own account and stream movies of their choice. After you left it was clear to see that the bed frame in the master bedroom had completely collapsed during your stay, this has now been repaired and reinforced. Had we have been informed of this during your stay it could have been repaired with little or no impact on your enjoyment of the cottage. Sykes Cottages have a dedicated helpline for guests staying in a property and we also leave owner contact details in the property welcome pack and would have assisted immediately and without question if you had contacted us. We are very sorry that you did not give us or Sykes Cottages the opportunity to help during your stay. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little cottage."

Lovely little village, ideal for a weekend exploring Yorkshire. Just missing the extra little touches to finish it off, welcome book stated tea, coffee & milk on arrival, only one tea bag and no milk, felt like we weren’t worth the effort!? Duvet and duvet cover different sizes, again just the finishing touch.
