  • "Location and grounds excellent, as was the Undercroft itself although it could do with a little TLC."

Unfortunately the internet was not available for most of our stay due to a fault, and when fixed it was still intermittent.

  • "Had a lovely break in this delightful property,Snape Castle."

It was fantastic for our 3 dogs. The owner was very friendly and gave us some good info re eating out etc. The only very small negative is checking in times which was misleading, the write up on the property said 4pm,confirmation said 5pm( latest we have ever had to check in most of first day gone by the time we could check in) and the info sheet for us in the property said check in was 3pm. Highly recommend the property.

  • "The property was comfortable and spacious."

Sharon provided everything that you could possibly need and more, more than I have found in any other holiday home. The bed was comfortable from the first night, unheard of! The tv had lost its signal prior to us arriving and we were looking forward to watching the FA cup final, but no problem, Sharon worked out the issue and retuned it in minutes. The dogs absolutely loved the garden, we played ball for hours! A fantastic week. One which we didn’t want to go home from. We will be back.

The castle is spectacular and the village is so peaceful, quiet and friendly with a lovely pub. Sharon is very welcoming and accommodating. Such a beautiful and unique setting which has had a profound impact on me. The facilities were very comfortable with everything we needed. Great location to explore the area. It was also lovely to have the use of the gardens to sit out and our dogs loved it! Finding somewhere which allows three dogs and was so dog friendly was such a bonus. The owner was very lovely and helpful. Highly recommend if you like somewhere with true character and history :)

The owner , was a delight. She is friendly and helpful. The castle itself is a great place to stay. We loved it. The dogs loved it and it is very safe for them, with the courtyard fully enclosed. The welcoming pack of human and dog biscuits, with a pint of milk, bottle of wine and fresh fruit is a nice touch. There is plenty to do and see in the surrounding area. Our holiday was over all to quickly and I can't wait to get back. Thanks to the owner for having us and our four wee Lancashire Heelers. Jockay fell in love with her...

Lovely dog friendly, warm cottage. Very safe garden for our Chihuahuas. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely village and easy access to local towns. Small shop in the village for essentials. Larger food shops at bedale 3 miles away and at Catterick. Internet at times was spotty. Plenty of books to read and games to play. Everything you could possibly need for a relaxing week.

The Undercroft is partly under the church and is very light and airy - and more importantly, very comfortable - the settees and the beds. The village pub is 5 minutes walk away. Definitely recommended.

  • "The undercroft has a good sense of history, as part of a castle once occupied by Catherine Parr."

It is spacious and both bathrooms have good strong showers, with a view of a large ruined tower from the en suite. There is a constant supply of hot water and the master bedroom is very comfortable. With stone-flagged floors and rugs, you are always aware that you are in a castle, while also having good wi fi and two TVs downstairs. You need to go into the courtyard for a mobile signal (but then again the walls are four feet thick!) and the stairs to the upper bedroom are very steep and not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The open plan kitchen makes eating in easy, but there is also an excellent pub within walking distance in Snape village and plenty of take-aways a short drive away in Bedale. There are lots of great places to visit nearby. We can recommend the Georgian Theatre tour at Richmond and the lovely small town of Hawes.

And it is obviously very special to stay in Snape Castle. The accommodation is very secluded and cozy and has all you need. Took us about 24 hours to get the balance right on the heating but after that it was really comfortable - we'd like to go back. The owner (and her cat) are friendly and we felt well looked after.

  • "Lovely stay in a really interesting cottage."

Swaledale and Wensleydale are within easy reach, with the North York Moors if you fancy going slightly further afield (though we did not go east of the A1). Masham and Bedale both very interesting and within easy reach. The Undercroft really is underneath the castle’s original chapel. It’s very private, with a gravelled forecourt and coffee table, ample parking, and small garden area. Comfortable bed, and good showers. The second (twin) bedroom is upstairs, and it would be a stretch for four adults, but perfect for two or 2+2. Thank you, Sharon, for two weeks’ respite from the dreaded Covid-19.

The character of the property and surroundings was breathtaking. The host and locals was very accommodating and friendly with a Fantastic amenities both in the castle and the village. The only criticism was the lack of outdoor lighting which proved to be difficult when letting the dog out on an evening and the Internet/TV could do with being updated for the cost of the rental. Aside from that we had a fabulous time in beautiful picturesque surroundings would stay again and recommend to anyone

We enjoyed every moment of our trip. The area is outstanding easy to visit Ripon, Richmond, and Masham. The rooms were spacious, the furniture was going quality and extremely comfortable. Sharon was very welcoming as was the cat. N Yorkshire was at its best in late summer, green and sunny. If you're on a diet don't visit, because the food in every town was so special and the portions so large you will have to deprive yourself. Special places Appleyards Pork Butchers in Ripon, Kings Head in Richmond, Bay Horse in Masham, and afternoon tea at Swindon Park. Enjoy Fountains Abbey, Middleham castle. We are definitely going to return

Snape Castle is well situated for exploring the dales and the Undercroft is spacious and generally a lovely place to stay, we would go back at some point and stay there again as it is in a lovely location with some good restaurants near by and good shops at Bedale which is just up the road.

  • "Lovely accommodations on the ground floor of the castle, in a peaceful and charming tiny village."

The owner, Sharon, was helpful and friendly, available but not intrusive at all, and she made check in easy. You need a car to get around, but the town of Bedale is close and has most of what you need day to day, also some fun spots to nose about. We found our stay restful, with a comfortable bed and adequate (underfloor) heating. Kitchen provided every sort of pan, dishes, and utensils needed, and a large fridge. Our only negative is that the living room is dark, but that is because the castle walls are 3 feet thick and using the original openings for windows to stay true to its historical significance. Overall a wonderful experience and would love to return!
