  • "Thank you for a lovely stay at Daffodil Cottage."

I loved the mix of old features and modern facilities. The mirrors are a lovely touch. Very cosy and well situated for easy walking into Staithes and Runswick Bay. It was wonderful how close to the Cleveland way it is. I returned home much more relaxed and would definitely visit again. Thank you!

  • "We enjoyed our holiday and Port Mulgrave was beautiful with lovely clifftop walks from the doorstep."

We were lucky to have great weather to explore the area. We would recommend Port Mulgrave for a base to explore Whitby and the North York Moors. The cottage: The kitchen is very narrow which is not apparent from the pictures. It is so narrow that two people cannot pass each other making using the kitchen as a couple pretty tricky. In addition, the fridge is not large enough for two people's food for a few days and the freezer box does not open - there is an additional fridge/freezer in the under stairs cupboard but this is not close to the kitchen so making a quick drink for example is also tricky. Heating: the owners control the heating remotely and it cannot be changed. The boiler is also locked away. There are no radiators in the main room - there is a log burner but you would have to buy your own fuel as only enough provided for one night (if that). There is under floor heating in the kitchen and main room but it is also set and controlled by the owners and locked. The under floor heating in the main room did not come on at all during our stay even though the temperature of the room was 16/17 degrees Celsius by the room thermostat. Parking: there is no parking outside the cottage in reality - the lane is so narrow that a car parked outside Daffodil Cottage would block it for any other access. The road at the front of the cottage has double yellows all the way down. The best bet is to park further up Rosedale Lane but this will be quite a way from the cottage and is not guaranteed. The advert does say this but we wanted to make it clear that parking on the lane outside the cottage is not viable and the other parking is at least a 5 minute walk, which when unloading/ loading the car is not ideal.

  • "An excellent night’s sleep, beds were so comfy it was like sleeping on a cloud."

Know it’s an old cottage but ceiling & skirting boards need cleaning more often (cobwebs) Would be a good idea to have a kitchen spray & toilet cleaner, so you can clean up after yourself. Underfloor heating didn’t work efficiently. Worked once in the kitchen & that was about it, so was very chilly at night. A regular stock of firelighters & logs for the next guests that stay. Overall it was a lovely stay, fantastic views & walks. The welcome basket was a lovely touch to our lovely stay

Very pleased to hear you had a great stay in Daffodil Cottage. The weather was perfect, so great opportunity to walk the coastal paths. Thank you for your feedback, the underfloor heating is set at an ambient temperature so if the cottage was already warm then the heating wouldn't come on until the temperature dropped. Glad you enjoyed the goodies in the welcome pack which we leave along with logs, kindling and firelighters for the log burner. I've passed your comment on to the cleaning company re skirtings Once again, really glad you had a great stay in Daffodil Cottage. Property Owner

  • "Amazing Cosy cottage, we had lovely walks, located in beautiful scenery, magical family memories made."

Welcome basket was lovely however maybe essentials such as bread milk (yes sachets provided but in window in full sun) and butter would been greatly appreciated.hair dryer would also be great, luckily I read previous reviews and took mine. Maybe a pizza cutter too, also the ability to dry clothes outside, maybe a retractable washing line and some pegs rather than using dryer. Thank you for an amazing fun filled trip

  • "Very nice property, we really enjoyed our stay."

Well equipped but a clothes airer would be a good addition for the summer months - for beach towels etc, to dry outside. A lovely house in a lovely part of the country. We particularly loved Runswick Bay.

  • "Everything was perfect."

It was lovely and clean and very homely. It was very well equipped with kitchen utensils and appliances. My only criticism and this is possibly from the last visitors maybe… The hoover didn’t work. It was clogged up with some kind of dust. I had no idea how to fix the issue and felt bad that I could hoover. I did use the dust pan and brush to have a quick sweep downstairs but it wasn’t possible to do upstairs. Other than the hoover, everything was fine.

The sitting room sofas and the bed were very comfortable and much appreciated after a day out walking, it was a pleasure to come back to the cottage every day. A big thankyou for the generous welcome pack too.

  • "Fabulous cottage with everything needed for a comfortable break."

The kitchen is well equipped, bed in main bedroom very comfy, the lounge/diner well appointed with nice touches of decor and all spotlessly clean. The location is ideal for walking to the local village Hinderwell, the Cleveland Way is closeby with its scenic walks across the cliff tops to either Staithes or Runswick Bay. Would very happily return to this cottage again.

Boasting character features whilst being within striking distance of the coast, this quirky abode is a perfect place for a break to the North Yorkshire Coast.

After a day of wandering the coastline, look forward to curling up in the living/dining room, a beautiful space with exposed stone and a woodburning stove, perfect for those chillier months.

When hunger picks up, move into the galley style kitchen, and get to work on a home-cooked classic, assisted by a range of appliances – there’s even a washing machine for your laundry needs.

Find the bedrooms upstairs, offering a king-size and a double, both with basins and served by a shower room.

Spend a moment on the patio seating before heading out to explore the area; head to the village of Staithes, taking a leisurely stroll through the winding streets, admiring the picturesque cottages, historic buildings, and glorious views of the harbour, cliffs, and the sea.

The cliffs are Jurassic age and full of fascinating fossils and rock pools.

Fishing and whale watching can be arranged from the harbour.

Close by, uncover the village’s maritime history at Staithes Heritage Centre and the Captain Cook Museum before heading to one of the many beaches at Saltburn, Skiningrove, Runswick or Sandsend.

Keen walkers will be drawn to the stunning Cleveland Way, spanning for 8 miles over the clifftops, or venture to the historic town of Whitby and see the stunning Whitby Abbey or climb the 199 steps for glorious views over the town.
