. The position of the cottage was convenient but very public as on the path up to the car park ,so had to keep the blinds down. There was no access directly to the yard at the back but there was from the flat above. Despite these issues we found the facilities in the flat were fine

Hi Thanks for your feedback. Whilst I cannot do much about the location of The Nook, I can ask Sykes to retake the photos. The chairs are brand new as the settees were showing signs of age and the feedback we had previously was one that led us to provide more space. Kindest regards Property Owner

The cottage is well furnished with a modern kitchen area and bathroom, the lounge area is cosy and the property benefits from good Wi-Fi. It is decorated to a high standard and was very clean with good quality linen and towels provided. Best bits are it is cosy with lovely log burner which is a one match starter. The heating and shower are good. The layout and furnishings are fine. We had a greyhound and lurcher with is and they were happy. The cottage us very quiet aoart from if the upstairs neighbours are doing Irish Dancing (joke) just a little noisy when they were moving around. As long as the guests are aware there is a sharp climb to the accommodation and nowhere to park and unload - we used the 40min parking and the space near the Cod and Lobster. It is a long way to get supplies if local shop is closed - we were out of season so had to go to Coop, on the bright side The Royal George does amazing food with proper chips. Lovey stay.

There is a few things that would be ideal for future visitors - Somewhere to keep bathroom toilettes - lamp bulbs / one was out , no WiFi to contact you but we were ok with one lamp , just so you are aware it needs replacing . - broken glasses in cupboards on arrival - more trays / roasting tin for oven maybe - bigger toaster - had to squash bread to fit in very small toaster . - better pillows and the bedding was very bitty and tired . On arrival the cottage looked nice and was warm, so thankyou for pre warming on such a cold day . To my horror both sofas have a lot of mould behind the big cushions, this I know to be a health hazard and I’m very upset about it .. I suffer from asthma so this worried me a great deal . Peace and tranquility!! None of this I’m afraid .. The noise from the tenants above in grimes cottage was horrendous.. on our last night they decided after making so much racket for 3 days and nights to switch the washing machine on which probably ended around 1am . As for there being no Wi-Fi ,and leaving our I pads etc at home to read a good book whilst away , we did not get that holiday , relaxing feel you described in the description details and have returned home tired and a little stressed having very little sleep . My husbands 60th birthday treat was a flop

The property is all on one level and located minutes from the sea, the main high street and 2 pubs. The living area was clean, comfortable and really cosy, especially when the wood burner was lit. The kitchen area was well equipped and functional, although the table a bit wobbly. But note that there is no mobile signal available at the property, however a short walk to the harbour or pub will resolve this issue. We were a bit worried about the inconvenience of having to park the car at the top of the village, but to be honest it wasn’t an issue as we spend most of our time meandering around the little streets & alleyways and enjoying the coastal walks. Just be prepared and bring groceries and wood for the fire, with you so you don’t have to keep walking back up to the top. This is a beautiful location and we will be back, though not suitable for people with limited mobility as there are steps to navigate to the property.

There is a small space to sit out the front of the cottage and if anything that is the only slight fault the bench could be replaced with a bistro set and a bit of a clean on the front area but that in no way spoilt our holiday. • "If you like to spend your 'get away from it all' holiday living under a wooden stage populated by tap dancers wearing clogs then this is the property for you."

Grimes Nook should be advertised with a noise warning... The lack of any floor covering in the apartment above means that you can share your neighbors holiday with them! Every footfall, word, wag of the dog's tail, opening of a drawer, pull of the loo roll can be yours too! All a special delight if they are early risers!! Sharing is caring but this is beyond unbearable. Add to this the general state of the property... Grimy Nook would be more appropriate. We had to wash everything in the kitchen before we could use it. The mugs (Wilko specials) were stained dark brown, the wine glasses smeary and dirty. Let's hope you don't need to grate cheese... unless you like rust on your spag bol! Let's hope you don't like ice in your gin, either ... the freezer was completely frozen up. We managed to chip the ice tray out but there was no way it was going back in, and I don't go on holiday to defrost other people's freezers. Then, if you manage to cook anything (and you need to be aware that there are NO basic essentials provided in this place at all) beware that the table doesn't collapse as you eat... It's pretty close to it! Maybe after you've eaten you'd like to use the shower room? Well, best to wear gloves when turning the light on. The light pull... a cord with a plastic toggle on the end... was once white... no more. It's now brown and indescribable near the toggle. Really?! These cords cost pence to replace... Unacceptable!! Never mind COVID precautions, what about e-coli! Never mind... let's use the loo. Generosity knows no bounds here with 1 complimentary loo roll! And let's hope you don't need to clean the bowl... You do NOT want to touch the loo brush which is a health hazard and lives in a damp damaged, yellow-stained corner (loo brushes cost a few pounds... surely this could be replaced every month). OK... Now I need a shower to get clean... The shower is ok, as long as you can fit through the tiny opening, but when you get out, the bath towel is not much bigger than a hand towel and the kind of quality you'd get in a charity shop to line your new puppy's bed with. Whilst house training. Still, the location was great... the owners clearly agree because I certainly can't see what else we paid the ridiculously overpriced rental fee for. We left after 4 nights as we could bear it any longer Avoid this place... Its an utter rip off.

It is ideal for me and my dog. Sometimes my daughter comes along. I like the renovations to the place, but have one or two issues. The most important one concerns the shower. It is desperately in need of a non slip in-shower mat, as the floor is very slippery, especially if you have used conditioner on your hair. The door is also very small. I was ok but my daughter is a big girl and had to manoeuvre her body in and out. There is nowhere to put toiletries so they have to be crammed onto the sink, or put on the floor. Also, no coffee table any more, so maybe a small nest of tables? I realise Grimes Nook maybe a work in progress and be fairly Spartan because of Covid restrictions and I will still look forward to staying there.

It is nicely decorated and a lot more modern than we expected. Very clean and well looked after. It is close to the Cod and Lobster and the food there was beautiful. If there was anything to improve on it would be the parking information. The only place to park is at the council carpark at the top which is fine but then once I got there found that it was coin only and I didn't have coins. Then noticed that you can call to pay but guess what, no signal!! That part wasn't fun but all adds to the experience. Maybe if that information would have been given to us before our visit it would have been helpful. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay there and will be going back.

Contact details for the caretakers are readily available for guests to use if there are any issues, it is disappointing that contact was not made during your stay as the cleaners live locally and were available to assist to make your stay more enjoyable. Historic sandstone cottages are made from porous stone, they look beautiful but absorb water and this can take weeks to dry out depending on the rain fall. We have done our best to combat this by adding a dehumidifier in the property and it does get inspected regularly and cleaned with special surface cleaner to keep it under control, unfortunately we experience very heavy down-pours just before and during your stay which did not help the situation. The cottage just had the feel of being neglected, the chair in the bathroom had a big hole in it, the pull cord for the light had been broken and bodged rather than be fixed properly. Also the decorating which although wasn't too old had been done poorly with paint on things where it shouldn't have been (like on electrical fittings) and with the windows being painted shut. The heaters warmed up quickly but the cottage still felt cold and I'm not one who normally feels the cold - I do not consider them adequate. The cottage is lovely, perfect for couples looking for a bit of romance. Clean and tidy with everything you could possibly need supplied. The area is great with good views and a real close knit community village atmosphere. The cod and lobster pub is literally 2 minutes away and shares the same welcoming friendly spirit as the rest of the village. We was made to feel extremely welcome and will definately be looking to return in the future.

  • "We have stayed at Grimes cottage twice, but first time in grimes nook."

Although smaller, grimes nook suited us better as all on one level. Also with the dogs, they don’t like to be left downstairs so they were happier in the next room. Everything we needed was there and lounge seating very comfortable as was the bed. Only thing needed was WiFi, but we knew that before booking. I would highly recommend grimes nook for 2 people and grimes cottage for 4 people.

  • "Had a long weekend stay in the cottage and loved it!"

Has everything you need for a couples retreat and was very clean. Wood burner was fab on the cold nights and certainly kept the place warm! Ideal location for walking down to the pub for a drink on an evening and exploring the local area. No issue for us unloading despite it being busy on arrival as we just unloaded bags on road quickly and waited with them whilst the other person took the car back to car park. Definitely worth a stay here!

When fire not lit and heating on cold sat near the back wall, and when fire is lit still cold to the back. Maybe another radiator on back wall.

Perfect getaway for 2. We loved the fire and even stayed in Saturday night in the heat and snugness rather than brave the outside!

  • "I really liked the cottage."

The downside was that as it was a converted net store underneath another cottage/ house, there was noise from above , which was occasionally intrusive. Other than that I loved the place and the holiday x.

  • "Came here last year."

...and this was just the perfect place to be again. A absolutely gorgeous cottage and a stunning village. Only one complaint...the windows were painted shut, so we were unable to open them, making the cottage very warm and stuffy in the hot summer. That being said, we are certainly going to be back

We have already booked for a week next year. My only question would be could their be guidance as where best to unload car, appreciate you have to park at the top of the hill but wasn't sure where I could drive down to to unload all our bags. In summary fantastic cottage in a perfect location, I expect this will be the first of many visits. Gary

The property

This cosy lower ground floor apartment was formed from the net store of what was once a fisherman’s cottage, quietly tucked away within the charming village of Staithes.

Set over the lower ground floor level, this holiday home is situated below a two-storey cottage and is an ideal retreat for couples wanting to get away from it all.

The open plan living area with exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and a warming woodburning stove creates the perfect space to snuggle around on cooler evenings!

With a pretty double bedroom and spacious shower room, Grimes Nook provides traditional, comfortable accommodation.

Outside is a small front patio with bench where you can sit with a morning cup of coffee, whilst soaking up the atmosphere in this quaint, historic village.

A two minute walk brings you to local inns, tea rooms and village shops, whilst the harbour and beach are just a stone's throw away.

Wander around the narrow, cobbled streets and alleyways, or enjoy an invigorating walk along the cliffs to nearby Runswick Bay.

A little further up the coast you will find the old spa town of Saltburn, with its elegant architecture and lovely sandy beach, whilst the vibrant port of Whitby offers excellent restaurants, independent shops and ancient abbey.

With both the stunning North York Moors and the coast to discover, Grimes Nook can be enjoyed at any time of the year.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
