  • "A spacious, always warm, spotless, very well equipped property."

We stayed here for second time, this time for 2 weeks. A nest of tables would be an asset by the sofa as it became very tiresome putting a mug or glass on the floor. The owners very good, prompt dealing with any problems. If you don't know the area advised to bring milk, tea, etc.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay in this town cottage & would consider a return."

The stream and area is so pretty. The bedrooms were large & comfortable with a good TV in each room. Kitchen was well equipped The lounge seating was adequate as the men folk were tall and could have done with a bit more room for comfort.Decor very tasteful. No welcome pack though which is unusual for those using Sykes. Village had no post office or food store or newspapers...but the area is stunning and the Black Horse pub's Sunday lunch was excellent.A really quiet spot for a relaxing break with lots to see.Would recommend highly!

Conveniently placed for travelling around. Clean and well equipped. The pub over the road did amazing food too. We will definitely stay again.

  • "18 high street is a lovely little cottage, we had a great weeks stay!"

Right opposite a stream which our daughter loved watching the ducks swim past. Close to two pubs. The cottage was very spacious and comfy and had all we needed. Clean on arrival and The milk was great to see in the fridge as was dying for a cuppa when we got there! The only things I would say to improve on would be when we arrived there was very little toilet roll left on the roll and with the village store only opening weekends this wasn’t ideal after a long journey just one spare roll would of been appreciated:) and the duvet I would say for this time of year is far too heavy/thick, a lighter one for the summer we think would be better. Oh and a footstool. Apart from that absolutely brilliant and we would definitely stay again! Thanks so much for a pleasant stay. Swainby itself is beautiful.

  • "First: we would/will go again, house bright and airy and comfortable with plenty of hot water and Swainby is an ideal spot, even if the pubs are expensive."

Next as constructive comments: Not sure how 4 adults would have coped, kitchen table impractical – I had to eat side saddle, dishwasher too small – even with just two it was running after each meal, perhaps another comfy chair; Lacking in cleaning material – which we wouldn’t bring – and dishwasher tabs – which we would; A welcome pack would have been appreciated, especially after a long journey; Not everyone is into modern technology, I would have appreciated a radio in the kitchen.

  • "The terraced house was very quiet, clean and comfortable."

The kitchen was very well stocked with kitchen utensils and crockery. All features of the house worked, i.e cooker, kettle, shower, TV’s etc.. Swainby is a peaceful quiet village, with two pubs- shame they close early and there are no convenience stores. Negatives of the house included, the kitchen table was not ideal and may be unsuitable for some people.

  • "Really lovely mid-terrace property that was well maintained and nicely decorated."

The Nespresso machine in the kitchen and the USB charging points at the bedsides were particularly appreciated! We also enjoyed watching the ducks and their ducklings in the small river opposite the house. A great base for exploring North Yorkshire, the house had almost everything you could ask for - the only things missing were a garden to sit in in the evenings (though both village pubs have great beer gardens), and a coffee table/side tables in the living room - but neither of those are deal breakers! Would definitely recommend a stay at 18 High Street, Swainby.

  • "Enjoyable stay just lacked information on how to control underfloor heating and operate the oven."

In need of a lick of paint. Comfortable bed with loads of wardrobe space. Comfortable sofa and chair, I always think it would be nice and more comfy if holiday let’s had foot stools too. Swainby a cute little village with 2 pubs but very little else, the walks from your door are beautiful though. Thirsk is definitely worth a visit we ate twice at Yorks Cafe there, lovely food and drink.

  • "Lovely warm comfortable cottage we really enjoyed our stay there."

We were a little disappointed that we had to go out and buy dishwasher tablets on our arrival as there were none there. The kitchen would have benefited from a table and chairs rather than the small breakfast island as we found it difficult to sit and have a meal around it.

  • "Lovely location with excellent walks from your doorstep."

The cottage is very attractive and cozy. The kitchen is well equipped but missing some small pieces that would make it perfect if you enjoy cooking ( grater, mixing bowl, garlic press, casserole dish etc.) The local pubs are dog friendly offering a good choice of food and both cafe’s are excellent. A drop of milk in the fridge would have been a nice touch so that we could enjoy a hot drink when we first arrived would have been a nice touch. Overall a lovely stay in a cozy cottage. Thank you.

thank you for your comments there is actually a grater mixing bowls and 2 cassarole dishes in the cupboards. I do try to get milk in if im there that day but its not always possible. Many thanks Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely."

It was clean and the kitchen was brilliant. The beds were comfy and the rooms were spacious. The village was beautiful and everyone was really friendly. It was a fantastic base from which to explore the surrounding area, and we hired bikes from the Rusty Bike Café at a very reasonable price. The only minor thing we'd change would be to have a dining table instead of, or as well as, the island in the kitchen, but can't fault anything else. Highly recommended.

  • "As one can see from the photos of the property it's delightful, however, they do not do the cottage justice."

Some holiday homes can feel a little sparse or a little too full of the owners personality. This hit the mark perfectly it felt like a home away from home immediately. It was very high spec from the heated floors, to the temperature control and the amazing shower. The kitchen was equipped with everything one would need in terms of utensil, crockery, glassware, etc for preparing a meal. The village itself is idyllic. The neighbours were very welcoming. There are many villages to explore nearby. The cottage was spotlessly clean. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The owner Kate was always on hand and was so kind.

As a family with 2 small children we had a fantastic time in the cottage which was well equipped with all the mod cons and extremely cosy. It is also close by to so many lovely places. The beds were very comfortable and the property was lovely and warm with the added luxury of heated flooring in the kitchen. Steve and Kate's extra thoughtful touches such as providing milk, eggs, colours and colouring books were greatly appreciated. We would definitely recommend this property which is in a really picturesque and quaint town. Steve and Kate could not do enough for you. Easy parking, lovely views and a very welcoming pub at the end of the street. What more could you need? 5 stars!!! Thank you so much :)

About the location

SWAINBY

Osmotherley 4 miles; Stokesley 6 miles; Northallerton 8 miles.

Swainby is a village in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire. Swainby is located at the north-western corner of the North York Moors National Park. The characteristics of the village and the surrounding area consist of traditional Yorkshire dry stone walls, hills, sheep, heather and moorland. The village is close to the ruins of Whorlton Castle. In the 19th century the housing of miners who worked the nearby hills for ironstone and jet led to an expansion of the village. Swainby contains two public houses, The Blacksmiths Arms and The Black Horse along with The Rusty Bike – a bike inspired café serving scrummy breakfast and lunches.
