Lots of places to visit within an hours drive. Quite isolated and about 25 mins from nearest supermarket. Very peaceful. Never been asked to strip the beds before - an 11.00am departure would have been better as no time for a good breakfast before leaving !!

The hot tub was divine at the end of the day. The only negative was the shower takes a while to warm up. But that comes with the territory of an old cottage. Rosie the owner is lovely, and had thought of everything for us and our stay. We would definitely stay again

There were 2 adults and dog. Enough room for us. Welcome supplies in the fridge a bonus especially the bottle of fizz. I managed with the ‘be patient’ shower for hot water. Out of Rosie’s control due to location I believe. Straight out of cottage and onto the moor. Hot tub was lovely to relax in especially after a long walk. Enjoyable week away from everyday life. Thank you Rosie

  • "A very sweet and amazingly well equipped little cottage out in the middle of nowhere in N Yorkshire."

Inside, the ground floor is perfect. Cosy main room with comfy sofas, large fire, good furniture. Rosie clearly likes hearts. We counted 41 in this room alone ! Good kitchen with everything and more one could expect. And another (dinning?) room we never used. Unfortunately the much smaller 1st floor is not so good. 2 tiny bedrooms and a tiny bathroom is silly. Enough room for 1 reasonable sized bedroom and a bathroom? We used the twin room as a dressing room. Could never recommend as a 2 couples cottage. Getting in a hot tub in a hot tub at the end of a winter's day out is of course always sublime. The garden is ideal for a dog. Would we stay again ? Inside the cottage - definitely Yes. But it was just too isolated, meaning getting in the car every day. Loads of good walks around, but none close enough to set off directly from the cottage.

First time we have stayed somewhere with an unlimited supply of logs for the log burners, and fire pit - not just a starter pack. It was so peaceful, and the hot tub was a perfect way to relax after a hard day's walking - so easy to operate as well, no idea how another reviewer could complain about the lid...An incredible gem of a cosy cottage, simply cannot wait to return.

Cottage downstairs was ok, but very small and cramped upstairs, back yard was very untidy with dead leaves and pine needles everywhere, first night there after a day out cottage was very cold and had to use blankets, when i spoke to owner I had to investigate the boiler which after a promt from me it transpired that someone had turned the radiator temp down, something that should have been checked before handover to us. No welcome pack upon arrival, a first for us, a a big no no. And first time in hot tub there is nowhere to secure the lid other than lean it up against posts, which to my surprise the wind blew it down and landed on my head, as i was on my own at this point, i perish the thought of what would have happened if it had knocked me out! Instead i suffered a very sore neck and shoulders for the duration, and even now, 3 weeks after it is still sore. Glad we only booked it for a long weekend

Rosie is lovely and met us on arrival to give us a quick overview of everything and assured us she was on hand if we needed anything during our stay (which we didn’t as everything was super straight forward). The location is perfect for walks and local pubs and the views are amazing. The hot tub and log burner are perfect to end a day of exploring, we really didn’t want to leave. The only thing I’d say is that the bedrooms are quite a bit smaller than they look on the photos but it’s really not an issue and we slept really well during our stay (I would say it would probably a bit tight for four guests though even though there are two rooms as we ended up using one room to store all our belongings). We will definitely be visiting Swang Cottage again and definitely recommend for a relaxing break.

Rosie is the perfect host, nothing is too much trouble a phone call is all that is needed if you need anything. You have everything you need as regards facilities, the two log burners are a bonus, warm and cozy and ofcourse the hot tub was used every day! We was disappointed and felt the cottage lacked some TLC. We found a few faults that we felt could be rectified inside the cottage. Some of the lights weren’t working in the lounge, the garden had weeds and dead flowers and also a table that looked like it had been dumped there with the chairs around the side. Barbecue was filthy and we didn’t see a fire pit ( which apparently was advertised). Lights around the hot tub didn’t work, 2.plug sockets in the lounge not properly fixed to the wall. In the double bedroom there was 2 fittings handles on the wardrobe missing which resulted in a screw sticking out. TV would only work on catch up. No live TV. Would we come back again ?? NO. We only stayed due to the good weather .

Rosie was always available for any help we needed. All covid precautions are taken at this cottage. The cottage was extremely clean and hand sanitisers were provided. The cottage is beautifully decorated and very well equipped. Rosie has managed extremely well to achieve a perfect balance between retaining the period charm of the cottage and including everything required for our modern lives. The icing on the cake is the lovely hot tub which was wonderful after a day out! The views from the cottage are exceptional, especially as the sun sets in the evening. Turn left from the gate and within 200 yards you are on the Yorkshire moors. Turn right from the gate and you are a short distance from the lovely village of Glaisdale. It was clean, cosy, comfortable in a brilliant location to visit beautiful places, with or without getting in a car. It was well equipped. • "A beautiful dog friendly cottage set in the Yorkshire moors, with a fantastic hot-tub to soak in after a long hike!"

!!! We were made to feel welcome the moment we arrived as the owner met us to give us a quick guide around and show us how everything worked, it was immaculately clean and decorated to a high standard and equipped with everything you could possibly need. There was even a lovely welcome basket filled with flowers wine and essential items. Just over a miles walk from Swang Cottage there is a fantastic pub called The Board Inn which served amazing food and was also very dog friendly We will definitely be going back to stay again and would highly recommend Swang Cottage xx Suzie

The property

This delightful, stone-built, detached cottage is set in the heart of the beautiful countryside of the North York Moors, in Glaisdale village.

In an elevated position, this traditional property provides a cosy and welcoming base for families and friends to tour, cycle or walk through the magnificent heather-clad hills.

Oozing charm and character, there are exposed stone walls, beamed ceilings and crooked niches, with two warming woodburners to relax by after an active day.

There is a classic, well-equipped country kitchen, with a separate dining room and a comfortable, spacious sitting room with a splendid stone feature fireplace housing the woodburning stove.

Upstairs, the two pretty bedrooms and the family shower room, overlook the surrounding moorland with extensive views.

With bespoke enhancements throughout, the cottage provides a wonderful ambience.

French doors from the dining room give access to the rear patio and garden, with a luxurious canopied hot tub to enjoy, whilst admiring the panoramic views.

A few minutes’ walk brings you to the local shops, whilst the pub lies a mile down the hill, serving real ales and good food.

Glaisdale is in a superb location, with the River Esk meandering through it and an excellent network of public footpaths and quiet country routes.

With Whitby just a few minutes’ drive and the coast beckoning, this is an ideal family holiday spot.

A peaceful village on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Glaisdale is set amongst beautiful countryside in the heart of the Esk Valley. The village itself has a post office in the general store, an excellent butcher (famed for his pork pies) and one hotel/pub, with restaurant.
