  • "Black Sheep Cottage was lovely."

It had everything we needed for a great stay. It was very clean and comfortable. I was worried about driving into the courtyard entrance thinking it was very narrow, but I needn't have worried as I had absolutely no problems at all. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone thinking about going. First rate!

The bathroom, being under the dormer roof was very difficult to use for anybody with mobility issues. Regards, Philip Gibson.

Great location for the town centre and other villages. A lovely comfortable bed and well equipped kitchen.

  • "The parking area is very small suitable only for a Fiat 500 or similar."

We had to take the bench into the lounge for our stay in order to squeeze a medium sized Ford into the space. No hairdryer - we have stayed in some 50 cottages over the years and this is the first one without a hairdryer. It is not possible to use the toilet when standing due to lack of head room. The bath is lethal - no handles and also incredibly slippery - a rubber bath mat make this safer. The shower has no head room and no curtain - is impossible to use apart from washing one's hair. The property should be advertised as unsuitable for seniors due to the unusable facilities.

We are very sorry you feel this way and that these things have spoiled your stay. We have had a transit van parked outside our property with the bench there with no problems at all. We will never be able to provide everything for every guest's preferences and the cottage is very well equipped - differently to you, I have never stayed in a holiday cottage with a hairdryer. My son, who is 6 foot, can use the toilet standing, the bath is no more slippy than any other but we will purchase a bath mat. We do not advertise the property as having a shower, the shower is usable within the bath and as is shown in the pictures, the bathroom is quirky and restricted by the layout of a 150 year old property. We have had many, many seniors staying with nothing but praise for the cottage. We are sorry you did not find your stay comfortable. I hope the gifts on your arrival went some way to making your stay more pleasant. Property Owner

  • "We had a great time at black sheep cottage."

We would come again. The only slight negative was to be greeted by the bed and breakfast owner next door calling himself the acting caretaker. He was extremely unhelpful and obnoxious.

We are so sorry he was rude to you - he's nothing to do with us. Property Owner

From the minute we arrived we felt very settled. It is extremely comfortable, well equipped and cosy! Just a stones throw from the centre of Thirsk but tucked away in a very quiet spot. We would not hesitate to recommend Black Sheep Cottage and would love to return, hopefully next year

  • "Has a wonderful weekend at the Black sheep cottage."

Fully equipped with everything that was needed . The owners added a few extra treats which were very nice . Very comfy beds and clean through out . So close to all the shops and a lovely park near to walk the dogs . Only issue I would highlight on the site is yes there is a parking space outside which is brilliant but a bit of a sharpe turn into the entrance if you have a big vehicle. Well worth a stay and would highly recommend a stay . Thanks once again .

It was perfectly situated in town, but down a very quiet lane with private parking which is always a bonus. The owners have gone above and beyond with the unique touches.and decor. It has everything needed for a relaxing break. It is so warm and cosy with a very comfortable king sized bed. It was just the therapy needed for a relaxing break. Also a lovely welcome pack on arrival. Thank you.

The property

Black Sheep Cottage is a delightful 19th-century cottage with a pretty brick built exterior, resting in the popular market town of Thirsk.

With tasteful décor, a cosy feel and close by amenities, this property is an ideal base for a small family or couple looking for a getaway to North Yorkshire.

Park off-road and enter through a quaint stable door into a well-fitted kitchen/diner.

This is a great space for guests to discuss the range of activities the area has to offer whilst dining together over a meal cooked in the well-stocked kitchen.

After dinner, get comfy on the stylish sofa next to the electric woodburner, put your feet up and find your favourite series on the Smart TV.

Alternatively, look through the books and games provided, to while away your evening.

Upstairs later for a bath and bed in either the king-size bedroom or single room, both with original beam ceilings.

Waking up refreshed the next morning, do not miss the internationally acclaimed World of James Herriot Museum next door, take in a film at the community-run Ritz cinema or browse the independent shops and cafes that make Thirsk such an attractive market town.

Or you could take a drive or the train to the coast, the Yorkshire Dales, or have a day out in the beautiful City of York.

You will never be without something to do with Black Sheep Cottage, the perfect base to explore from.
