"Would have got 100% they just need to pay a little attention to detail and look up at the cobwebs."
Also replace light bulbs.
Bedroom lovely but pillows very flat.
All in all the flat was good and in a ideal spot for seeing Whitby.

"Lovely cottage in a great location!"
Really deceptively big once inside, and was great for being in town so the kids could wonder the shops easily!
On arrival as we looked around we found the dishwasher full (not ideal!) the beds didn’t look neat, one duvet cover was to small for the duvet so it was all clumpy and looked messy, we had nothing to clean with (dishwasher tabs, washing up liquid, hand soap, not even bin bags!) there wasn’t even a welcome hamper which I know not all do one but it’s Christmas so I thought just a little one would of been nice or atleast some tea bags etc but someone did deliver one the next day thinking we were arriving a day later than we were! The hamper that was delivers was beautiful with a lovely Christmas cake but still no tea bags or milk in sight.
The furniture looks great but the mattresses need replacing and the sofas are very uncomfortable and there’s not really enough for everyone to sit comfortably.
All in all the cottage looks lovely and has been done up really well, just a few things that need work and it would be perfect!

"The location of the property is excellent - right in the centre of the old town which is full of charm."
The downpipe at the top of the steps at the entrance to the house leaks water onto the landing so we had to put a towel down inside to make sure we didn't take the wet into the house.
The house looks beautiful but the furniture is uncomfortable with very little padding and despite saying it would accomodate seven it would be a struggle if they were all adults!
The beds are very uncomfortable with mattresses which need replacing (comments in the guest book have highlighted this since 2023), but the bed in the room with the floral wallpaper is broken and the mattress is not fit for purpose - even with the mattress topper on it. It was so dire. I phoned the holiday agent to complain whilst still on holiday. We dreaded going to bed - slats missing at end of bed and a mattress which wasn't flat it sloped down allowing rolling out of bed. It's a real shame as the house was lovely and warm, and we enjoyed the lively area and the marvellous pub nearby 'The Green Dragon'.

"The downstairs toilet cannot be called a bathroom, the outside door had about 40 cigarette stubs on the floor, the metal stairs was in need of a good clean, the beds were not comfortable also chairs in lounge not comfortable."
Been coming to Whitby 27 years this is the first time we have not seen a teabag no sugar no coffee nothing at all no washing up liquid absolutely nothing. The downstairs toilet was far from clean. The boiler extract cover was missing which explains the scratching heard in the cavity which could have been anything

"The accommodation is in a great location, right in the heart of Whitby."
We were pleasantly surprised with the size once inside, plenty of room for all of us, even had a highchair for our grandson to use. A few minor issues were the toilet seat was loose in the bathroom and a couple of door handles were loose but nothing major. There are several metal stairs leading up to access the property, but they are quite wide and have a handrail so that was good. Overall, it was very comfortable and would certainly book again.

"Spacious duplex apartment right in the centre of Whitby."
No parking, we used mixture of Abbey or town but spaces in town fill up fast. Can park nearby to drop off stuff. Noisy on Fri/Sat nights to be expected. I found the bed quite uncomfortable and several minor things like bowls were more like saucers, cutlery was v cheap, nowhere to hang coats and living room sofa's were uncomfortable. Internet speed is slow for multiple people. Overall a pleasant stay despite some improvement opportunities

"The property is stunning, lovely and clean."
the location is fantastic, being in the centre of town was really convenient for us with 3 children. the only down side is that there is no washing machine, with 5 of us in the house for a week, we really missed not being able to wash our clothes after a day at the beach or crabbing..
I will definitely be back to this little gem, I've been coming to Whitby for 25+ years and this is easily the best location we have stayed. it really did feel like home for a week.

"Great central location for exploring Whitby but because of this being prepared for noise at night!"
Lovely property, bright and fresh, although bathroom floor was quite dirty. Overall a good stay and would come again.

"We’ve just come back from a brilliant week at Ellerby Lane House, booked through Sykes Holiday Cottages."
As a family of five, we found the house warm, cosy, and exactly as described. It was really well-equipped, with plenty of cups, glasses, and kitchen kit, and everything was clean and fresh, including bedding and towels.
There was a WiFi issue during our stay, which felt like the end of the world for our two teenagers! However, the owner was really helpful and shared the WiFi code for the shop downstairs. It was a bit slow, but it did the job and kept the kids ticking over. That said, we were out exploring or enjoying meals most of the time, so it didn’t really affect us much.
Just a couple of things future guests should be aware of – not complaints, more heads-up:
• Noise: It’s very noisy in the early mornings with deliveries to nearby shops and pubs, plus a gang of seagulls that love the roof. If you’re a light sleeper, like me, don’t expect long lie-ins!
• Entrance area: The house entrance is tucked down a small alley where locals seem to gather for a smoke. This means there are quite a few cigarette butts around – not something the owner can control, but worth knowing.
Parking in Whitby is a real challenge. We ended up using the Station Car Park near the Co-op and Church Lane Car Park. Both get full fast, so aim to park up early or late and just leave the car parked for your stay.
Despite those minor things, Ellerby Lane House itself was spot-on – we couldn’t fault it. We’d highly recommend it to others and would definitely return for another stay.

"Lovely place to stay, this was my second visit."
Property would benefit from a welcome pack upon arrival and the provision of either washing up liquid or tablets for the dishwasher. Upstairs toilet seat very loose and the steps to the entrance could do with a good jet wash.

"We had a great stay at Ellerby lane house."
The positives were great location, lovely decor, very homely. The cleanliness was very good.
The negatives were the beds were very hard so quite uncomfortable, there was no mirrors in the bedrooms so doing make up was a bit of a struggle. The property capacity is for 7 people but there wasn’t 7 plates or 7 sets of cutlery as we were there for Christmas and was cooking Christmas dinner in the property we had to go and buy some as there was no contact number provided for the owners for if we needed anything. There is also no parking at the property which isn’t uncommon for Whitby but I think it should be listed on the listing as it wasn’t easy unloading our stuff parked on double yellows on the side street and we wasn’t given any instructions prior, I had to call Sykes cottages to contact the owners to see where we could unload. It was also a little noisy at night time if you were trying to sleep and could hear people heading back from the pub, again not a major issue but the location is very central so could be a little noisy if you plan on taking babies etc. The toilet seat was also broken in the main bathroom and some of the blinds were broken so couldn’t be opened. There is also no exterior bins for the property so as you can imagine being Christmas we had a lot of rubbish which we had to bag up and pile up near the entrance of the property for it to be collected by the owners.
Besides all that it is a lovely place to stay, very cosy and the location really is perfect for exploring Whitby.

"Lovely place."
Fab location. Whitby parking isn’t the best but always a way round things I guess!!
Stylish yet cosy cottage, very clean. Loved it and would definitely return. Could maybe do with a stair gate to keep doggies from going up there. Mine is used to going upstairs so I had to use a piece of wood I found in the under stairs cupboard to block off the stairs to prevent him making himself too at home!! Also bit of a lack of mirrors in the bedrooms but that’s just a small gripe. I struggled with the heating so made do with the gas fire as it turned chilly of an evening. Maybe I’m just a bit dim though ha!! Thank you for a lovely stay. Thoroughly enjoyed it :)

"We loved staying in this beautiful property."
It is decorated to a very high standard and very well equipped. The location is perfect for exploring Whitby. Only improvements would be more coat hangers in the bedrooms and a more comfortable second settee. We will definitely return in the future
