  • "We absolutely loved Base Camp 9."

The accommodation was clean, comfortable, light and airy even though the approach from the street was down a flight of steps. We had no problems parking 2 cars and accessing via the lock box. Beds were comfy. The owner had left some handy provisions. Only a 10 minute walk to the beach and town centre. We would love to book the place again. Thank you so much.

  • "A review on this site said the neighbours dogs came in the property and attacked their dogs and the guest."

The door is the only way to get fresh air in the property so having a dog ourselves worried us so we contacted Sykes Cottages through here and with another website with our concern and we were ignored. We turned up and the keysafe was broken to the point where I had to use a nearby garden rake to open it. After a while in the property we saw the neighbours dogs outside (2 dogs and a rottweiller) and they tried to get in so this simply wasn't safe so we left and stayed somewhere else. At no point did the company get back to us. The building is also on a busy roundabout with a car service station and petrol statin attached to it. It is, however, only a 8-10min walk to the beach which is good. The property was clean and spacious. Overall. not impressed and Sykes customer service needs a bit more training in order to respond with enquiries

  • "Although the apartment is absolutely gorgeous and I loved it once inside, getting into it is a different matter."

It took over half an hour to find as Sykes had got the building name wrong ( is called ESKHOLME not Escholb) The steps down to the property are dark and badly maintained making them feel dangerous. The only sign ( base camp) is 10 feet below ground level so cannot be seen from the road. Parking is horrendous so unloading the car was very difficult and the 'private terrace' is actually a large shared garden which is used by permanent residents and their 3 shitzhu dogs and a rottweiler. As the windows don't open you have to open the door to let air in .. and all the dogs kept dashing in and going for our 2 elderly dogs, and my husband got bit trying to shoo them out. Worth considering if you are holidaying with children, also the neighbours are loud and use the f word as punctuation! The property itself though is stunning and has everything you could possibly need. Great bathroom, well equipped kitchen and good WiFi.

  • "Unfortunately the Postcode was wrong on the details so it took me a while to find the building, and getting the key out of the lock box was tricky."

  • "Great base for Whitby Beautiful and comfortable flat once inside."

Key safe a bit tricky Stairs down to flat could do with some lighting. Parking available on street but sometimes you have to search for it.
