  • "The house needed some attention with paint flaking down on us from a damp patch in our bedroom which also contained a broken lamp and the top floor bathroom was broken off of its’ bottom hinges which stopped it from closing."

The uneven decking was a bit of an issue too.

  • "The outside is disgusting front and back."

The windowsills had either spiders eggs, bird poo ,bits or ivy growing in. The place was seedy and no one used the hot tub and goodness knows what germs were there,The outside decking was warped and only went out once as tripped and who would want to sit in a hot tub with 5 ‘ weeds around them. It did say steep steps but no hand rail as next door so 3 of us really struggles. Also building work next door which should have been mentioned. Rained in in a bedroom.Asked cleaner to come back and they made out the key wasn’t in box but we were there with a dog that barks if anyone outside. Actually unsafe as some windows bolted down and smoke alarms not working ,Someone did come but left a an alarm on a bed. Lights flickered.Dangerous and unsafe. Some things nice bedrooms and bathrooms or would have walked out immediately . Told issues in reviews fixed they weren’t . We all left early as no response from Sykes.Have tried calling Sykes as wanted to leave immediately. They have not responded except to give me a tel no I had used that goes dead which I have rung 30 times . Will be taking this further and won’t use Sykes ever again.

  • "The property is a beautiful Victorian semi detached house high ceilings big rooms plenty of room for 13 and 2 dogs."

Fantastic location minutes from town. We had parking for 4 cars two on road two in drive - which is steep but usable. On the basis of others reviews the fridge freezer issues have been rectified, the toilet seats are fine, there is a dishwasher not sure if this new as wasn’t on listing. Plenty of kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery. Large dining room fitting all round a table. Big room huge TV great for karaoke! The bathrooms were fine and functional the top floor toilet is plumbed into the hot water so beware but usable. The bedrooms again nice size and warm (we had to turn heaters off). Only downside it has been restored on the cheap so don’t expect a luxury finish. The garden needs attention and the hot tub is usable but the decking round it is a bit wobbly. The windows don’t open or don’t close but all in keeping with the character. The internal doors some close some don’t not a big issue. The stairs at the front are very steep but you can access via a path at the side which is more of a slope through a back door once you are inside. All in all if it’s a big group all about getting together enjoying Whitby and each others company great property look past the decor and external facade and enjoy the splendour of a it’s age, size and location.

Thanks for your valuable feedback. We are fixing some of the windows in stages and will also look at the decking over the next month Update for April 2024. All windows have been fixed and can be opened. We have also level the back patio that had the buckling near the hot tub. We plan to look at the stairs next. Property Owner

  • "Large property with plenty of space and for the purpose of enabling the extended family to holiday together was great."

Good position in town, within walking distance of beach and town centre, and opposite the park with a good playground. However, the holiday was marred by a number of issues. The most significant was the non- functioning freezer and a fridge which whilst it worked continually ran with water. Additionally there were over 20 other "snagging" faults from loose toilet seats, missing door handles, very stiff toilet door locks and a toilet which flushed with hot water. Some of these issues have appeared on reviews several months ago, but had not been addressed before our visit. Reported the faulty freezer to Sykes, along with other issues, who passed on to the owners. No engineer or contact from the owner during our week stay, and now two weeks after our return home, we have still no received any communication, not even an apology, from either the owners, or Sykes. Stay here as it is a large property in a good location but be aware it is not perfect and you may have difficulty getting any response if you have problems.

  • "The property is advertised as sleeping 14 but there are only 13 beds."

The location is great but the property itself needs work as finish is not to a great standard. On arrival key code was wrong so had to phone for support which we did get straight away. The bedrooms are nicely decorated but some curtains are falling down, the toilet door upstairs does shut therefore unable to lock, the upstairs toilet flushes warm water probably why we ran out of water on the Saturday. There was no toilet paper provided and no towels in bathrooms just the ones in bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped however pans and plates were dirty and needed washing before use there was no dish cloths or t-towels. The back patio doors were very difficult to lock needing a slight lift to get it into the frame. The back garden is poor to look at has not been weeded and looks a mess, the next door property is in poor state which you can see and rats were seen overnight in garden. The steps at front of house are steep and feel this should be noted in case guests have disability, steps need replacing as all cracked. The overall cleanliness was not great it’s such a shame as property had a lot of potential due to location and size but finish is poor, eg radiators on wonky, toilet seats don’t sit right. Despite this we had a good time due to company.

  • "The house is well located within a few minutes walk if Whitby Harbour."

It is a sizeable property which accommodated a family of 12 without difficulty. The kitchen was well equipped and bedrooms nicely decorated with comfortable beds. The property was clean. The hot tub was definitely a bonus. However the house from outside and the garden space was shabby and unkempt and generally in a state of disrepair. This was not helped by the fact that the neighbouring property was empty and halfway through a renovation project. The bathrooms appear to have been recently installed. The showers were hot and there was plenty of hot water for all to have showers. However none of the toilet seats fit onto the toilets the hand basin in first floor toilet was literally hanging off the wall. The upstairs toilet has been plumbed into the hot water rather than cold water. Overall we had a pleasant stay but the property does need some attention to maximise its potential

  • "Externally really need to sort the curb appeal, looks derelict, over grown guttering facia boards rotten, side of property by the bins also gave the pression of being empty, external wood all rotten."

Also need to make guests aware exactly where the key Box is located as this is not immediately visible. Internal accommodation as expected however we had a problem with electricity, that required an electrician to be called this disrupting the start if our day, also the property is obviously in the process of been renovated but things like doors not shutting properly, the lock on the down stairs toilet although not locked trapped 2 people as it catches the frame work. The baby gate doesn't fit the stair case. Several guests were unable to shower on Sunday morning as the water was cold. The property will be beautiful when all the snags are completed and the outside has an appealing first impression. I actually thought when 2 of us couldn't find the key Box along with the state of the the outside I honestly did think I had been scammed.
