Dalnaspidal 11 miles.

Set amongst the dramatic mountain scenery of Badenoch, the small hamlet of Dalwhinnie is a wonderful base for exploring the bordering countryside. The village is one of the coldest villages in the UK, having an average annual temperature of 6.6oC, making it suitable for winter walking and mountaineering. The destination rests north of Drumochter, just off the A9 road from Perth to Inverness and has been bypassed since 1975. It is 2½ hours drive from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, 25 miles from Aviemore, 13 from Newtonmore and 17 from Kingussie. Dalwhinnie railway station lies on the Highland Main Line from Perth to Inverness. Why not pop into Dalwhinnie Distillery which is home to the famous Dalwhinnie Single Malt Scotch, part of the Diageo Range. Looking over the flat base of Glen Truim above sea level, the distillery boasts the highest elevation for a working distillery in all of Scotland and provides a delightful Visitor Centre. There are four trails that take in all the sights of Dalwhinnie from the Coachan Wood Viewpoint (3.5 miles) the Distillery Walk (1 mile), Forest Walks (3.5 miles) and the Loch Ericht Walk (1.5 miles).
