  • "We liked Gorrie's Lair."

It is a lovely two bedroom/two bathroom holiday cottage in a large and tranquil secluded garden near Spean Bridge. Easy access by car from the cottage into nearby Fort William and the West Highlands. The towels provided in the cottage were a bit small and flimsy so my suggestion would be for improved towel provision please. We knew in advance there would be no freezer/washing machine and planned accordingly and managed without although if these were made available then that would be a real bonus.

  • "Lovely stay again, we stayed a couple of years ago."

Really comfortable and well located. Only thing that would be handy, unless we didn’t find them, is some kitchen scales.

  • "Thank you for a lovely stay at your cottage."

Beautiful place with beautiful surroundings. Close to lots of beautiful places to visit. Small improvements would be a washing machine instead of a dishwasher. Windows that open in the bedrooms that can be left open safely through the night.

  • "Our stay at gorries lair was great."

Had everything we needed for our stay. The tennis court was a great addition too! If I was to make any criticisms it would be that it would be nice to have a freezer or washing machine.

  • "I was looking for a cottage in the Highlands and was delighted to find Gorrie's Lair, which was perfect."

Well appointed and spotlessly clean, the property is in a quiet and peaceful location, but perfectly situated for trips out to Loch Ness, Glencoe, the Isle of Skye, Glenfinnan and Mallaig. Fort William has the shops you need, about 10 minutes away.

Peaceful & private . Spotlessly clean & fresh. Welcome Pack was a lovely addition. Would highly reccomend for a short stay. Longer stay may require washing machine..

  • "Great 'home from home' to spend a week in."

Arrival milk etc package appreciated. Just a few tweeks I would recommend :- Install a fridge/FREEZER compartment. I know in the instruction boook it says get in touch to get a key to access the freezer in the adjoining outhouse ..... but come on ... really ? I found a key hung in the meter cupboard (but only near the week end of staying there) ..... for a week a Freezer is a must (although I noticed one is not stated in the cottage details. Also, the picnic bench is in need of replacement.... it's unsteady and flexible when you sit on it ! Our weeks weather was so hot that a few fans would be appreciated .... especially in the upstairs areas. Hundreds of Mini black flies in the upsatirs bathroom plagued our visit ( due to the hot weather ? .... unsure). It needs an extractor fan. It would have been nice to have a set of nice matching mugs instead of the multitude of 'building site' ones. The duvet has a LOVELY cover on it whcih feels great. I couldn't really fathom the TV to get 'live' TV on it .... please leave instructions for visitors. Overall, a really lovely place to stay and in a great location to explore the areas around. We usually like to meeet and have a quick word etc with the owners but not a problem.

  • "Absolutely lovely week’s stay at Gorrie’s Lair."

The cottage had everything we needed, spacious and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The basket of goodies left in the kitchen was a lovely touch. The cottage is ideally located to explore the stunning Scottish scenery. We loved Fort Augustus, Glencoe, seeing the Jacobite steam train from Glenfinnan Viaduct and a ferry trip to Mull. Excellent communication with Tracey and Scott. Thank you for a fab stay! We would highly recommend.

  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Nice welcome pack and the tennis was fun. Don’t think Novak need worry!! Comfortable beds and really good shower after a long day in the hills. Loved it and would definitely book again. Spean Bridge well placed for Munros around Ben Nevis. Grey Corries are magnificent as are the Mamores. Skye isn’t too far and Glenfinnan is worth a visit particularly if you time it to see the Harry Potter express.

  • "We had really bad experience staying in the cottage."

The upstairs toilet seat was unstable. Water was leaking from the side panel of bath tub. There were cob webs all over the cottage. I would not recommend this cottage someone with breathing issues as cottage smelled of mould and damp. My husband who was asthmatic, he didn’t like stay in the cottage at all. Our stay at cottage ruined our holiday. Sykes and owner didn’t take any responsibility for the state of cottage.

We are sorry to hear of your experiences at Gorries Lair Cottage and appreciate your feedback. We are very proud of our holiday cottage and always try to ensure all of our guests are made to feel welcome and enjoy the experience of staying in the cottage. The cottage was cleaned a few hours before the guests arrived and nothing had been reported with regard to any of the issues. As soon as we were informed, within 2 hours we had appointed 2 independent builders to assess the complaint. To which it was reported there was no evidence of mold or smells within the property. However, it was reported that damp towels had been draped over the upstairs electric heaters. Which could have contributed to the smell or damp, not to mention a major fire risk!!! The cottage is in a very rural area part of the Scottish Highlands and cobwebs can form within a couple of hours. The toilet seat was indeed slightly loose and has since been fixed. The upstairs bath has also been checked and no evidence of a leak. Just for the record the cottage was left in an appalling condition. Property Owner

The weather not in our favour but had a game of tennis. Had taken rackets but are some at the cottage. We found everything was provided clean and comfortable, even a lovely welcome basket. Not a lot in Spean Bridge but excellent spot for Fort William, Neptune Staircase Locks. the Jacobite Steam Train ( Book in advance ) and journeys out a long to Mallaig and the Great Glen. All so peaceful !!

Just perfect for our stay. The cottage itself had everything you need for a relaxing holiday and it is set in beautiful grounds. Lots of wildlife around, we even spotted a couple of deer and plenty of bird song to be heard. We had some really clear nights which were perfect for a bit of stargazing. Can't wait to go back again.
