  • "The plus of the property was its location."

However, the presentation was poor. The entrance hall and the walls leading to the front door were grubby and need attention in terms of cleaning and decoration. On entering the property, we were presented with dirty, stained carpets and large pencil marks on many of the walls, probably left by previous guests. Attention to detail for paying, visiting guests is very lacking. Bedroom furniture was falling apart, with drawer fronts coming off and making them unusable. Wardrobe doors were very difficult to open and close. General décor was poor, with water stains running down the wall in one bedroom and water stains on ceilings, possibly from leaks above. The window blinds are inadequate for anyone wanting a good night’s sleep, as they do not properly block out light and also do not operate correctly. During our stay, we noted basic safety items were missing, such as a fire blanket in the kitchen, and there was no fire evacuation procedure displayed for what is a top‑floor property. This should be addressed as a priority. There was no guest booklet or information pack for the property, just equipment leaflets scattered around in various places. Wi‑Fi was not accessible throughout the stay, as no access information was provided. Overall, our stay was acceptable, but the experience was not as advertised. There was no usable Wi‑Fi and no garden area to sit in. The pictorial representation of the property in the advertising is in no way accurate — the photos appear to be very old. The view from the property is actually across new‑build houses, which are not shown in the advertising. The large hole in the roof of the property was not mentioned to us prior to arrival. We were told it was being fixed and that it did not leak; fortunately, it did not rain during our stay. However, the existing water stains inside the property suggest otherwise. Alnmouth is a very nice place to stay and we will be returning, but not to this property.
