The property

Middle Cottage is a well-presented cottage resting in the historic market town of Alnwick, Northumberland.

Ideal for friends or two couples seeking a characterful base close to Northumberland National Park and local amenities, this abode boasts a toasty woodburning stove and enclosed yard.

After parking along the street, you arrive at Middle Cottage, a listed terrace set in the centre of Alnwick, well placed for exploring the town on foot.

The traditional frontage sits neatly among neighbouring cottages, immediately giving a sense of its heritage setting.

Step through the front door and into the hallway, where stylish wall cladding sets a smart first impression.

This is a practical space to pause, take off coats and walking boots, and settle in before heading through to the main living areas.

From here, the cottage opens into the living and dining room, a welcoming space shaped around the fireplace.

The woodburning stove is set within exposed brick, making it easy to imagine evenings spent unwinding on the seating after a day outdoors.

The dining table sits comfortably within the room, ready for shared meals, slow breakfasts, or evenings spent talking over a glass of something chilled.

Sash windows are found throughout the cottage, bringing in natural light and reinforcing its traditional character.

Close by, the kitchen quickly becomes part of the daily rhythm.

Mornings begin with the kettle humming as you prepare the first cup of tea, while later in the day, the oven is put to work for relaxed suppers using local produce.

The dishwasher makes light work of clearing away, leaving more time to linger at the table to plan your next adventure.

Daylight pours in from the lantern-style ceiling window, keeping the space bright as you move easily between the worktops, sink, and appliances.

From the hallway, carpeted stairs lead up to the bedrooms, soft underfoot as you head upstairs.

The king-size bedroom offers a restful place to switch off at the end of the day, while the double bedroom provides an equally inviting retreat for a second couple or friends, both continuing the cottage’s sense of character and ease.

Back on the ground floor, the shower room is finished with sleek tiles that catch the light from a ceiling window, creating a fresh, well-designed space to start or end the day.

The walk-in shower is especially welcome after long walks, whether across open countryside or along the coast.

To the rear of the cottage, step outside into the enclosed yard, where decking sits between lovely stone walls, offering a sheltered spot for a morning coffee or a quiet drink as evening draws in.

From the front door, local shops and pubs are an easy stroll away, making it simple to enjoy Alnwick without relying on the car, while a nearby river provides an appealing option for gentle walks close to home.

Alnwick is an excellent base for discovering Northumberland.

The landscapes of Northumberland National Park invite long days out among rolling hills, winding valleys, and wide skies that change with the light.

Alnwick Castle offers a striking contrast, with grand interiors to explore, battlements overlooking the town, and gardens designed for unhurried wandering.

Along the coast, Bamburgh delivers memorable scenery, where expansive sands stretch beneath the castle, coastal paths lead you along the shoreline, and sea air sharpens the senses.

Middle Cottageoffers a characterful base in the heart of Alnwick, perfectly placed for exploring Northumberland.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike; for even more excitement, the enchanted world of Lilidorei is also available at Alnwick Gardens, offering seasonal events and plenty of fun for little ones of your group. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
