  • "We started our stay in difficult circumstances, with the problems caused to power, etc in the area, by Storm Arwen."

The owner kept us fully informed, and once we decided to travel, he made every effort to make the property as cosy as possible. Once the power was restored we had a thoroughly enjoyable week in a lovely, comfortable cottage. Well equipped throughout. Christon Bank proved to be a good location for exploring the area. Would not hesitate to return or recommend to friends.

  • "Lovely big house with ample secure garden."

But the comfort of the place was uncomfortable. Mattresses on beds in 3 rooms are old and worn out. One member of our party has come away with a bad back. The corner settee in the main sitting room is very old , worn and uncomfortable. It is time that Sykes made sure that owners update the furniture in holiday homes to a better standard. Mattresses should be changed every 8 yrs at least. We were hoping to catch up with our Netflix and other viewing while on holiday in the evenings but unfortunately this holiday home does not have one smart TV between the 3 in the house. Surely in these modern times this would be a facility one would expect. Especially when paying £900 a week !

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. I am sorry and disappointed to read that you did not think of your time at Millennium Cottage as comfortable. We have not had complaints regarding the comfort of the beds or mattresses before so this was surprising to read, we are sorry that you felt affected your stay and will monitor future reviews about this. We do not list a Smart TV in the amenities of the property but we do provide an Amazon Fire Stick in one of the TV's which has lots of shows and apps on for you to use. I hope the points you have raised did not ruin your stay at Millennium Cottage. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week at Millennium Cottage."

It was very spacious and very well kitted out. The children had plenty of room to play, we did venture outside into the gardens, which were extensive, but it was very cold and one of our grandchildren is used to much warmer climates so having the space inside the cottage was great. When we arrived the house was spotless and there was a very generous 'Welcome' pack. The log fire was tremendous and when this was on, we didn't need the heating on. All the bedrooms were of generous proportions and there was plenty of wardrobes and drawers. The washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher were much appreciated additions. The only negative is that the photos show that there is a bath and there isn't, although the written information clearly states that it is two shower rooms, so my fault for not checking, but we managed with the baby bath that was provided as the children were small enough to get in it. A car is an essential requirement when staying here, as there doesn't appear to be a bus that comes through and there is only a small convenience store and a pub. Thanks again for a wonderful week, would definitely book again.

Perfect for small children, especially my train obsessed two year old (it's close to a level crossing but noise not a problem). Big garden and games room for older kids. Not far to lots of stunning beaches. Warm and cosy when the weather wasn't so great. Owner very friendly and helpful.

  • "House is in a great location, and potentially has everything that a larger family would need to keep everyone happy."

2 double bedrooms, 2 twin rooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 lounges and a games room - great. And in the Summer months great outdoor spaces. With a little TLC it could be amazing! With the house being in a village we werent expecting quite as much noise, it is metres from a very busy train line and level crossing, and the road through the village was quite busy too with HGVs. When we arrived there was a terrible smell on opening the utility room door, the washing machine had stagnant water in the door seal and was absolutely filthy, took a fair bit of cleaning and several washes (empty) to get it to a useable standard. The master bedroom had a memory foam mattress but the other beds would benefit from new mattresses as they were rather flat and springs could be felt.

  • "The cottage was clean, comfortable & spacious."

The welcome pack was a very generous surprise. We have used Sykes for many holidays now and this is one of the best holiday cottages we have used. We only have one minor grouse. When we booked, there was a bath installed in the upstairs bathroom, however this was later replaced by a shower and we were not informed by Sykes until 7 weeks before our holiday, which left us with a bit of a dilemma as our grandchildren are unhappy in showers and there was little time to find alternative accommodation. The lack of a bath didn't prove to be a major problem - it would just have been nice to have had a bit more notice.

Very central. All the attractions were close by which meant we didn't have far to travel. The cottage is well equipped and the kids enjoyed the games room. There is a large garden which would have been great to use if the weather had been better. You can easily imagine having a glass of wine on a summer evening on the patio. We settled for the log fire. Really enjoyed the cottage and would recommend a stay there.

The combined dining area and kitchen was great for socialising around the table. The beds were all very comfortable - no complaints. The log fire was an added bonus and easy to maintain. The house was actually warm and cosy enough without it but it added to the magic. The configuration of bedrooms, bathrooms and two sitting rooms proved ideal for our very mixed party of friends and family but would equally adapt to families with kids or elderly and less mobile relatives. We were there in the middle of winter so we couldn't really take advantage of the outdoor facilities - decking, gardens, bbq etc. Some nice local walks and lots to do nearby although the local seaside could do with better parking at peak times. (Christmas week for us - and couldn't get near Craster!) The convenience store in Embleton is friendly and well stocked - unlike the laughable local shop in Christon Bank! We'll definitely be back in the summer!

I am a bath person but the rest of my family chose to use the shower over the bath, effectively giving us a one bathroom property. The beds were very comfortable which makes a change for a holiday let and much appreciated. The sofa and armchair were quite low so my husband had to sit on cushions as he has had a hip replacement 3 years ago. All in all it was a very good holiday.

We were students together in the early 1970s at Edinburgh University. Millennium Cottage was ideal for us because of its location - perfect for people interested in golf, walking, cycling and history. The local pub, a short walk away, was an additional attraction - friendly and comfortable with excellent beer and the hooves of Derby winner, Blink Bonny! There were other fine pubs and restaurants in the vicinity. The accommodation was first class - all rooms were spacious, comfortable and well appointed. The large kitchen/dining area had everything you would ever need. The rear decking was ideal for relaxing and has fine views over the extensive garden and surrounding fields. There was also a grand playroom - table football was perfect for 60 somethings in wet weather! The "welcome pack" was the most generous I have ever experienced at any holiday accommodation.
