  • "The house was not clean."

Stained carpets, lots of dust everywhere, ingrained dirt in bathrooms. The oven was dirty. Inadequate seating in the garden. The master bedroom had a nasty smell. 13.5 tog duvets on the bed during the heatwave. All cushions were dirty and stained. The house feels tired and run down. Such a shame as it could be a lovely place to stay if it was deep cleaned and properly maintained. Not value for money in current state.

  • "This is a great located property with plenty of space."

We really enjoyed our stay, the house has everything you need. The cleanliness has pushed the stars down, especially the bathrooms. We would however, recommend for a family and would stay again.

  • "Positives: The bungalow is in a wonderful location, in the centre of Beadnell, a lovely little friendly village."

The lovely beach is an short walk away, as is the small village shop, and the fish & chip van, which is open on a Thursday, Friday & Saturday evening, and is heartily recommended. We had cocktails at The Tower Pub, Sunday lunch at The Saltwater Cafe, & lovely meals at both the Craister Arms & The courtyard, all a stones throw away from the bungalow. Fantastic food in all these venues, with great, friendly staff. The kitchen is very well equipped, with plenty of glasses, crockery & cutlery. It's lovely and light, with a great breakfast bar to eat at. There was some cleaning products left in sink cupboard, 2 tea towels, 1 kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets and a small tea & coffee starter pack. Fridge/freezer is a good size & was clean & tidy. Bedrooms were all well equipped and comfortable, plenty of wardrobe space in 3 bedrooms, lovely bedding etc, & lovely large bath towels & hand towels. The 2 bathrooms were both pleasant and clean. It took a while to work out the shower in the shower room ( you have to turn it onto full heat, then turn it down again ), but once we mastered it, the showers were great, plenty of hot water. Negatives: We arrived at Palmers Rest, and went in through the rear of the property. We were very surprised to find we were entering through a bedroom, this is not mentioned in any of the property details. The porch we entered through, did not appear to have been cleaned, nor did the carpet in the bedroom. The conservatory had lots of dead flies, wasps etc, many on the windowsills, along with their droppings. The corners of the floor had not been cleaned, neither had behind the sofa, which had dead flies and dust when we moved it. The loose cover on the sofa had several stains on it too. The skirting boards throughout the bungalow were dusty & grubby. There was debris in the bottom of the kitchen pedal bin, which had to be cleaned. Unfortunately, a previous visitor had put a washing capsule in the washing machine draw, instead of the drum, and this was completely blocked with plastic, so we had to get it out and clean it. We went out into the rear courtyard, to sit at the patio table & chairs, & discovered the seat covers hadn't been put back in the trunk as requested, and were stained & dirty, so we had to wash these, before we were able to use them. The patio was messy & dirty, and had not been brushed or cleaned for a long time, and the tall weeds in the border, meant there wasn't room to sit at the table, so we weeded, and cleaned up the patio as well. We needed to use the vacuum cleaner, and discovered that it was full with dust etc. After vacuuming the rear bedroom, it was full up again, so not sure when it was last cleaned. The chest of drawers in the main bedroom, were dusty & sandy & had to be wiped out before use. We tried for 3 days to get the TV in the lounge to work. We finally got it working, only for it to keep turning off. Unfortunately, there was no instruction book for it, which may have helped. I sent Sykes a message on their app, regarding the cleanliness & TV problem. I received a reply later on the next day, asking if we would like a team visit, or for the issues to be addressed during the changeover. When I tried to reply, it stated that this subject was now closed, & I couldn't reply. We tried phoning, but just couldn't get through, appalling customer service. We did speak to a guy who came to give us a new information leaflet for the bins etc, and he said he was a friend of the owner. We explained to him about the cleanliness, TV etc, and he promised to inform the owner We did have a nice time at Palmers Rest, the location etc is perfect, and the bungalow is spacious, but unfortunately the standard of cleaning leaves a great deal to be desired, and was very disappointing. If they can get the cleaning problem sorted, it would be perfect.

  • "Great location in the heart of the village, church 50mtrs pub 70 mtrs and 8 mins to the beach."

House was well equipped and beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations. Lovely open fire which we used every day. Loads of pots and pans this was one of the best equipped spots we have stayed at. Heating was ok as electric radiators which seemed to have a mind of their own as did the water which would benefit from hot water on demand as if you were the last person for a bath or shower it would be Luke warm only but that would not stop us from going again.

  • "Thank you for sharing your home."

The beds were super comfy, facilities are great especially for eating and drinking. We had great meals at the Fish Shack in Amble & The Joiners Arms in Newton. The Dogs enjoyed the beach as usual & having the open fire was just what we needed. Thanks for all the goodies and Christmas decorations, we really appreciated the efforts you'd gone to. We love Beadnell and this part of the world and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this property.

  • "This is house was perfect for us and had many great qualities."

The kitchen area into dining room has been beautifully done and was a great gathering place (especially since the conservatory was closely joined and a fabulous place to sit and watch the world go by). The chairs at the island felt unsafe and my elderly parents became scared to sit on them as they wobbled and creaked- maybe replacing them would be wise before someone has an accident. The only downside of this house was the cleanliness…… this is our 9th visit to the area so have been in many different houses. It’s clear that a company is paid to come in and clean for next visitors-I’m suspecting they are not given enough time to properly clean but either way things should be checked more regularly. Plastic shower/bath mats were black with moald (something could be easily fixed with a soak in a bleach filled sink), shower in general had a build up of black and some corners of rooms were very dusty and dirty. These are things that maybe don’t need done weekly but definitely need done more regularly than they are being done. Beds were very comfy but I was extremely shocked to see the mattress was covered with only one sheet-no mattress protectors or even double sheets (which will very quickly mean replacement of mattress)……not nice when many people are visiting and sleeping on them. Also the bush at the front gate was over grown so much that you could barely get through on to the path which was particularly tough for my elderly dad who isn’t steady on his feet and struggled more than the rest of us to come through gate ….. I did notice a gardener who came to cut grass so maybe should be looking at other areas of garden too! I do have photos of all these things but see there is no option to do this here. This all sounds negative but I have to add that we would use this house again and thoroughly enjoyed our stay (a bit of dirt didn’t kill anyone)…… it’s just after so many stays in different houses it’s sad to see time not being spent on maintaining them to the best of standards. It almost gives the impression that such holiday homes are just a money making scheme for owners and that they don’t care-which I genuinely don’t think can be true of all.

  • "Ideally situated bungalow for visiting all manner of beautiful places and only a short walk from the beach."

A very well equipped kitchen and everything spotlessly clean throughout. Thoughtful owners had left a welcome pack - much appreciated. We would definitely book again if we revisit the north-east. Minor observation - the wifi signal was weak in some areas of the bungalow and an extender would help improve it.

Many thanks for your kind comments. We have just ordered a wifi extender on your advice! Let’s hope it makes the difference. Property Owner

  • "We had a great three generation family holiday in this lovely, spacious bungalow."

Being just four minutes walking distance from the beach was a big plus, as was the large conservatory where we could store all our beach clobber. The kitchen is superbly well equipped and all the furnishings are attractive and comfortable. We would happily stay there again.

...and we would be only to pleased to have you back! Thanks for those kind words: just what we want to hear. A&P Property Owner

BEADNELL

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
