  • "Best holiday cottage we have been in."

It had everything you needed. Helen the owner kept in touch and was very helpful. Welcome tray was very nice especially the bottle of red wine. It’s such a lovely cottage. The pub across the road unfortunately doesn’t do meals anymore and is up for sale. Bit of a downer as the other pub in the village was closed. Good take away with wide variety of different meals. We enjoyed our stay in the lovely cottage though.

Thank you for your lovely comments, it is very much appreciated and I am delighted you enjoyed your holiday. Helen Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage and very thoughtfully kitted out to cater for holidaymakers’ (adults, children, dogs) needs."

Note for tall people, a couple of the doorways are low. We particularly appreciated early contact from Helen, the owner, who provided information on the local public transport (we don’t drive) and kind offer to collect the basics from the local shop to save us carrying along with our luggage / the walk back up the hill. Chirnside is a good location to reach Duns or Berwick via direct bus route and Eyemouth via Pingo bus, if not driving. There are also plenty of local walks. We had a great week and would highly recommend this holiday property.

The cottage was lovely and welcoming. The welcome basket a nice touch. For once the weather was hot all week and while my husband walked the Berwickshire Coastal Path, my daughter and I spent time on Coldingham Beach, picnicking by the Blackadder and exploring Berwick.

  • "We enjoyed our stay, but it was a bit noisy with traffic."

We did find it quite a cold cottage, and we had to put fire on to try and heat up the living room. It is an ideal location for getting about to many places to walk and sightseeing. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the welcome package was lovely. We had a problem with hot water, but Helen & Peter were very quick to sort and seem a really lovely couple. Everything we needed was there. This would be ideal for a couple who like walking & sightseeing.

  • "The cottage is clean, cosy, close to all local amenities and in a central position to explore Northumberland and the Scottish Borders ."

Helen, the owner, has thought of everything to make the cottage a home from home, including having plenty of coal and kindle to make a roaring fire when the weather gets a little chilly. We were lucky we didn't need them but there's also plenty in the cottage to keep you and the kids amused if the weather isn't great with a good selection of DVD's, books and board games to work through. Beds are lovely and comfortable and the kitchen is fully equipped with anything you may need. Helen, herself was very helpful. As we were staying for 2 weeks she contacted us before the start of the holiday to ask if we would like the freezer turning on and if we would like extra bedding leaving so we could do a change, she also left a lovely welcome pack for our arrival. Its little things like this that make a big difference We can fully recommend the local pub, The Waterloo Arms which is literally just over the road, very friendly staff and customers who make you feel really welcome too. We will definitely be back

  • "While the cottage itself was clean and comfortable, the road noise was severly understated."

My wife has difficulty sleeping anyway, but the lorries up and down the road 24 hours a day, 7 days a week made it almost impossible to sleep. This put a severe strain on our holiday and unfortunately we will not be booking this cottage again. This is a shame as otherwise this would have been a perfect place to stay.
