10 Customer Reviews

  • "Fantastic location — next to the Whiteadder river looking out over sloping fields with lots of birds and other wildlife (and surprisingly entertaining sheep) with public footpaths from the doorstep."

Yet Berwick-upon-Tweed is just a short drive away — a small mediaeval town with lots of character, yet easy to access by car — with free parking! There are lots of places of interest nearby or within an easy drive — we especially enjoyed a boat trip to see seals, Puffins and other sea birds at Farne Islands. The house is spacious and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen — plenty of pots and pans, cutlery and crockery. We liked the design of the relatively recent renovation, the main access is via a boot room, which makes it easy to keep the rest of the house tidy. There are large windows along the length of the house — ideal for watching the wildlife. All bedrooms and bathrooms are accessed from a long corridor which provides flexibility to accommodate different groups. The house is well insulated with an efficient central heating system which we found had been set to maintain a comfortable temperature. It’s a unique, quality, property in a beautiful location and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking a comfortable rural break in this under-appreciated part of the world.

  • "Had a wonderful stay, we were 4 adults and 2 well behaved dogs."

We were also lucky with the weather, eating out on the patio most days. The views are amazing, the house is beautiful. Just a 10 minute drive into Berwick town and not much further if going to the beach. The house has all of the amenities you could wish for, washer, dryer, oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher etc.. also tv although the channels took some finding sometimes but we got there in the end. There was a lovely gift basket on our arrival which included a bottle of sparkly and biscuits amongst other items. There are leaflets and brochures in the house with maps showing all places to visit nearby. The heating came on in the mornings for a short time which allowed warm towels in the bathroom and also despite the number of showers each morning, the water was always nice and hot. We did contact the owners on arrival as there was no water in the property, but this was down to Northumbrian Water and not through any fault of the owners. However, Jess could not do enough, and within a short time the waterboard was at the house and they fixed the issue (which apparently was somewhere down the road due to work which has been done earlier in the week). Jess, however, messaged several times to make sure it was fixed and check we were okay. One thing I will never forget are the amazing views, such a wonderful property. Thank you for helping make wonderful memories. xx

Thank you for such a lovely review. It means a lot when people enjoy the house as much as we do! We hope you are able to come back in the future. All the best, Jess and Andy Property Owner

  • "Superb location and cottage."

Plenty of daylight and well furnished. Wood burner a nice touch particularly as the weather was chilly and being technophobes we were reluctant to fiddle with the central heating controls.

Thank you so much for your feedback, we are delighted you enjoyed the house! Jess and Andy Property Owner

  • "Hello, excellent house and location."

please check valve in cystern in large bathroom - tendency to stick and allow water to constantly flow. Perhaps look at mattress in large bedroom - may need replacement. We used additional logs but did not have the central heating switched on at the same time. If we came back to the area we would look no where else. Regards, Gordon Connacher

Thank you so much for your feedback, we are delighted that you liked the house so much! We will look in to the mattress and the cystern - thank you for the heads up. We look forward to hosting you again in the future. Jess and Andy Property Owner

  • "A lovely property."

It was ideal for us, our three daughters and their partners. Very comfortable and clean with a wonderful view of the river and the sheep on the hillside. So relaxing. The kitchen had everything we needed. Only 10 minutes to Berwick and half an hour to Ford and Etal, both well worth visiting. A couple of suggestions - provide clear instructions for the central heating and have mirrors and waste paper bins in all the bedrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property. Thank you!

We're really glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for the helpful suggestions. Jess and Andy Property Owner

  • "Such a great house for us - a group of old friends."

It was warm, clean, loads of sociable space and helpful owners. Also there is a wonderful bath, fantastic showers, and we saw an otter and loads of interesting birds. Highly recommend this place. Only thing we could think of to improve it is some more chopping boards :) Thank you again.

  • "We had a few days at Whiteadder bank, we all thoroughly enjoyed it is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in, very well equipped and so peaceful but not far to nip to Berwick if you need anything."

On arrival we had a lovely welcome pack with refreshments and local honey and jams which we all enjoyed. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept very well. The patio area is great if you get good weather it would be nice to sit out in the summer for a barbeque, we just settled for a cup of tea!. There are some binoculars which were very useful to look at the birds feeding on the river, we were not lucky enough to see a seal or otter but maybe next time. We will come back again to this lovely house with the family in the future

Thank you so much for your kind comments, we really appreciate it. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to hosting you again! Jess and Andy Property Owner

  • "Loved Whiteadder Bank - 5 Stars Ours was a very last minute booking, due to the fact that we had walked away from sub-standard accommodation provided by another company!"

Sykes Cottages to the rescue and luckily for us, Whiteadder Bank was available. Our intention was to originally stay in Bamburgh, but after finding Whiteadder, the location was perfect. Literally a few mins drive from the main A1 route South & North, but in such a tranquil setting. We loved sitting out on the terrace listening to the sheep talking loudly to each other. Beautiful views. The property itself has been refurbished to a really hi-spec and we couldn’t have asked for more. We will definitely return in the future. Thank you to owner Andrew for hosting our last minute booking and for being in contact with us regarding a few questions we had. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the kind comments, Stephen. We're really pleased you had a good stay and look forward to seeing you again! Andrew Property Owner
