This was booked as a surprise getaway for my boyfriend’s 40th birthday, and we were highly impressed with the entire experience was absolutely wonderful! We enjoyed a romantic countryside break in a peaceful and beautifully maintained setting.
The lodges are finished to a very high standard and come equipped with excellent amenities. Our bedroom featured charming ceiling lights designed to resemble a starry sky, which added a lovely, romantic touch. The setting of Poppies Hut was truly remarkable!
It was everything we could of asked for and more

"Just returned from a wonderful 2-night stay in the shepherd’s hut with a couple of friends, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience."
From the moment we arrived, everything felt peaceful, cosy, and beautifully thought out.
The hut was clean, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. It’s clear a lot of care has gone into making it a comfortable and inviting space.
Chris, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We’re already looking forward to returning!
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful countryside escape.

"We stayed at Poppies Hut for 3 nights and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish."
Chris and Helen are truly incredible hosts — nothing was too much trouble, and they went above and beyond to make our stay special. They even surprised Leanne with a birthday card, balloons, and a bottle of prosecco, which was such a thoughtful touch and meant the world to us.
The hut itself was beautiful, cozy, and had everything we could possibly need. The views were stunning, with the lake and surrounding scenery making it feel like the perfect countryside escape. The spa was an added bonus — so relaxing and just what we needed for a peaceful getaway.
We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Chris and Helen’s hospitality made the experience unforgettable, and we would highly recommend Shepherd’s Lodge to anyone looking for the perfect getaway. We’ll definitely be returning!

"The poppies hut was beautiful."
So clean and with everything you needed!
The view was stunning by the lake and the hot tub was a perfect addition - if you are planning to be in and watch TV ect there's no WiFi and most of the channels don't work but you can plug in a HDMI if you want to take a portable dvd player or I took my Nintendo switch - but it's a stay to be with nature relax in the hammock and just unwind
So pleased you enjoyed your time with us and totally chilled out and enjoyed the lake and countryside lovely meeting with you both

"Fabulous time in Herbie's hut ."
Hot tub was brilliant , relaxing time was had , our host Chris was great and let us know what was on and where to go , the area was kept tidy and quiet , would defo recomend to family and friends for a stay at the huts

"We recently spent 4 nights in poppies hut!"
We had a lovely stay and found it very clean and comfortable! We will definitely be staying again and would recommend! The hot tub was a perfect addition to the hut making the stay that extra bit luxurious! Although we had a power cut for 12 hours we were supplied with a torch and with the log burner we were toasty warm! Thank you for a lovely stay!

"My friend and I had the most lovely time staying at Poppies Hut."
It was super cute and cosy and it is wonderfully presented. Poppies had everything we needed and we loved the added bonus of a hot tub. It was the perfect getaway surrounded by beautiful scenery, nice walks and peace and quiet. We liked that the huts are very private and spaced apart. Chris was super helpful and is full of recommendations on things to do and where to eat. Upon recommendation we went for a beautiful meal at the local pub “The Rutland Arms” and it did not disappoint. For things to do we took a short drive to Rutland Water which was close by and plenty to do there. If you are looking for a relaxing break then Poppies Hut is perfect! Would definitely visit again

"My boyfriend and I had the best weekend here."
The cabin was so cosy and clean and the hot tub was amazing. Chris was great and helped us sort the hot tub when we struggled to light it!! Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. Very pretty and quiet area but with pubs and eateries nearby!

"I booked this place relatively last minute but the information given in regards to Poppie’s Hut was accurate."
The hut is very comfortable and clean. There is storage space under the bed so you can put your bags away during your stay. There are 3 other huts located around the field but it still feels very private and perfect for a couples get away.
The hot tub was lovely and we definitely enjoyed it! I would advise that it does take a while to warm up but once it’s at the right temperature, it will stay warm for a good while.
We did have to contact the owners to ask for more logs and kindling but they were very nice on the phone.
There is no WiFi and there is little signal in terms of phones but this does allow you to switch off from it all for a while.
Would definitely stay again and would definitely recommend!!

"Wow, just fantastic, I was hopping it would be as nice as the photos, and we were not disappointed, what a lovely out of the way place, the hot had every think and it was just perfect, the fact there was no WiFi, well at first it was no, but then because there wasn't any, I put my phone away and relaxed, the views, the quiet, the hot tub, just fantastic, sitting out and enjoying the night sky, some think I've not done in such a long time, we will be going back, and it's a lovely and perfect get away."

"Wow, what can I say."
Our whole experience here was absolutely magical from start to finish. The owner Chris was away when we first arrived but still provided a first class service at the other end of the phone whenever we needed him. He was so kind and personable and made sure he personally introduced himself to us when he arrived back. The hut itself was stunning, all the facilities we needed and more including twinkling star lights above the bed which made such a cosy and romantic atmosphere. Everything was thoroughly clean and their cleaner does an absolutely fantastic job, and always goes the extra mile to check if there’s anything she can do for you. The hot tub was wonderful, and the views you could absorb while relaxing were second to none. We spent many nights sat outside in front of our hut toasting marshmallows and overlooking the lake and listening to the sounds of nature. If you’re thinking about booking, don’t hesitate and just do. As a couple we’ve been on many holidays together including abroad and this is by far the best of them all, the memories we’ve made and the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere was everything we needed. We will be back in no time!!!

"Me and my partner came to stay in poppies Shepard huts."
We had such a lovely long weekend! The hut and surrounding area was absolutely beautiful, it was such a peaceful getaway. It was lovely having the lake right in front with the ducks and picnic table. Would be even better in the summer! The hut itself was very cosy, comfortable and clean with special touches such as the star lights on the ceiling above the bed, and the privacy of our own hot tub tucked away. We loved going on an alpaca trek, and visiting belvoir castle. There were also plenty of good recommendations for attractions and restaurants/pubs in the booklet provided in the hut which was really helpful. Despite being away himself Chris was very responsive with any questions we had and really accommodating and was happy for us to message or call him if we needed anything which was really appreciated.
