"We returned to the Peak District for another hiking holiday and were specifically looking for dog-friendly accommodation away from the noise and bustle of towns."
The Plucking Shed proved to be an excellent choice.
The accommodation is spacious, tastefully furnished and very well equipped. It has a separate bathroom with a large walk-in shower, which is particularly convenient for older guests, while the freestanding bathtub in the bedroom adds a real touch of luxury. Hot water is available instantly, making it especially welcome after a long, wet and windy day on the hills.
The kitchen is also well equipped. The only thing we felt was missing was a washing machine – with one, the property would be perfectly suited to longer stays as well.
The bed is comfortable with a firm mattress, and the many windows let in plenty of natural light, making the whole place feel bright and welcoming.
Parking is safe and convenient, and both the owners and everyone working on the farm were genuinely friendly, welcoming and always smiling.
The peace and quiet here are quite remarkable. In fact, the silence is almost striking. There is a small private garden, although the fencing is fairly low, so I wouldn't recommend leaving more adventurous dogs unattended. Chickens and wild rabbits regularly wander through the garden, which only adds to the authentic countryside atmosphere.
Within around 30 minutes' drive you'll find countless fantastic walking routes – easily enough to keep hikers busy for two weeks or more. Petrol stations and supermarkets are within about 20 minutes, while several excellent pubs are just down the road.
We stayed with two dogs and left completely satisfied. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Plucking Shed to anyone looking for a peaceful, comfortable base from which to explore the Peak District.

"Location and size of accommodation is good."
However the property is directly linked to a 2 bedroom let and there is very poor sound insulation. Your neighbours don’t have to be ‘noisy’ for you to clearly hear conversations and the sound of their TV when Elvis Presley isn’t our choice of an evening’s entertainment. Arrangements for food preparation are sparse with not even a bread knife or veg peeler etc., poor quality cutlery and a combined oven microwave is not so versatile. Some direct heat on a cold rainy weekend would have made it more comfortable and the wood burner would have been ideal but no logs or kindling provided.

"I stayed here for a week on my own and it was fantastic."
Tom and Catherine were always on hand when I had any questions, and it felt very safe staying here as a woman on my own. The grounds are absolutely stunning, and waking up to the views every morning made me never want to leave. The standard they have renovated the cottage to is impeccable, the perfect place to stay for a weekend in the countryside. It was a simple and scenic walk into the lovely village of Marple Bridge, with great access into Manchester City centre via the train. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

"We had a great stay at the plucking shed."
Perfect place to explore Marple/Mellor with many hiking routes. The accommodation was modern, clean and comfortable and was just what we were looking for in a weekend away. Very relaxing place to stay. We were lucky enough to be there for Mellor march so the farm opened its bar one of the days we were there and it was nice to try some English wines. We would love to come back one day.

"Lovely cosy accommodation for two and our dog, perfectly situated with great views all around."
We were pleasantly surprised on arrival as the photos do this property no justice at all.
We loved the large comfortable bedroom with roll top bath with an amazing view down the country lane. The shower/wet room was a bright airy space, tastefully decorated with a very efficient shower. The underfloor heating is more than enough even on the coldest nights. (We lit the long burner once but it was more for the ambiance rather than the need for additional heat!)
The kitchen has all the essential equipment, towels are provided in the wet room, the bedroom has a hairdryer with an open rail with shelves/hanging space for clothes.
We were only there for 4 nights with a full schedule booked and would have liked to stay longer. We would recommend The Midland Pub in Marple Bridge, an easy 30 minute stroll (great food and wine/cocktail selection), and if you like aircraft would recommend booking a flight simulator experience in Stockport about 7 miles away (Runway Flight Simulators). My husband ‘flew’ a Vulcan and a Spitfire. Great fun but you will need to book in advance.
All in all we had a great break at the Plucking Shed and would definitely return. Thank you to the owner for the chocolates and wine - a very welcome generous touch.

"Had a fab week staying in the Plucking Shed with great views and excellent walks for us and our dog."
Pretty much a dog friendly and welcoming pub in every direction (although check on opening times as a couple only open Thurs to Sun). And after a long day walking around the Peak District the luxury bath tub was heaven to unwind and relax in. Friendly owners who live on the farm and on hand if needed anything but left us to it. Thank you for the welcome gift of wine and chocolates and basic provisions (milk, butter, salt, pepper, washing up liquid etc) - advert doesn’t say but the oven also has a built in microwave plus there was a Tassimo coffee machine with pods, which were welcome additions. There is an adjoining property but we heard very little from the people staying there. All in all a lovely little place and would definitely book again if travelling to this part of the Peak District.

"Beautiful little bolthole with views to die for."
Well situated for travel to Manchester and very near to desirable tourist destinations such as Quarry Bank and Lyme Park. Nice touch with the wine and chocolates that were left by the owner. However, there are a couple of things which made my stay less comfortable than I would have hoped for. Firstly, and most importantly, I was disturbed by the owner three times in the first 4 nights of my stay. The first time was him simply touching base with me to say hello which was fine and expected. But the second and third (dropping off some cooking utensils that I told him on the phone I didn't need and to read the electric meter, and then to say there might be some noise from farm equipment) were perceived by me as unnecessary intrusions - something I've never experienced in 15 years of taking holidays on UK farms and in cottages. Some people might be ok with this, but for me a cottage holiday is a chance to be undisturbed by people and as I was staying on a working farm I expected people and machinery noise during working hours. Other things such as dirty cutlery on my arrival that I had to wash up and the fact that you can hear those staying next door at the stables which is directly adoining the Plucking Shed meant that it wasn't completely the relaxing break I hoped for. To look at it, it's beautiful but the experience didn't match the view for me personally.

"Immaculate beautiful cottage set in a wonderful location."
The views are great, there's so much local history, walks and pubs. The cottage itself is modern, stylish and comfortable- the pictures don't do it justice and it has everything you need.
It was the perfect getaway, and the wine and chocolates from the hosts was such a special touch.
